Detroit Police Car Crashes and Bursts into Flames, Brave Citizens Rescue Cop

A dramatic scene unfolded in Detroit, Michigan when a police officer’s car crashed, then burst into flames. Luckily, two men were at the scene to pull the cop out of the wreckage and bring him to safety. According to the Detroit Free Press, the sergeant lost control of his patrol vehicle around 4:30 a.m. in I-96.

The officer was allegedly incoherent when rescued and has no recollection of what occurred during the incident. MyFoxDetroit.com has more:

“Just went up in flames. It burnt in like five minutes,” said witness James Clark.

He grabbed his camera and shot some dramatic video as a Detroit Police cruiser burned…

Moments before the crash, Clark said he heard what sounded like a tire blowing out. Then he saw the police car out of control.

Watch Clark’s footage of the wreckage below:

Also, watch a news report from WJBK-TV, which explains what occurred in detail:

Luckily, no one involved in the incident was seriously injured.

Real Detroiters were waiting for a chance to steal his gun as soon as they could get close enough to the fire.

To be honest, I was surprised and skeptical to hear that a cop was rescued by ‘good sumaritans’ in Detroit. Call me cynical. Eager to affirm the story and renew my faith in those folks, I clicked.
Watching the story, I learned that a local resident FILMED the fire, but a Canadian truck driver passing through and another (unspecified) actually were the ones to save him.
Well, I’m grlad the happened to be there and commend them, but I can’t help feeling a little let down.

And they thought the pinto was bad car…lots of cars are blowing up and Nader hasn’t said a bloody thing. I lost a niece to a car that was engulfed in flames. Horrible way to die…

Just google flaming car, exploding car, etc and you will see that there are plenty of them.

Nader is a hypocrite…bad follow up on his part. Consumer protection is a joke.

Very lucky he had people around that cared!! In some areas they would have let him burn to death! Police need to wake up and understand the people are not their enemies! I support the good cops, but there are far too many bad ones! The motto is to protect and serve, not harass and intimidate! I have met so many cops that think they are above everyone! I am glad the officer is ok and support the police , but things need to change!

      @DEFEAT THE LIBERALS
I definitely agree with you about V-man. I think I would have tried to use nicer words but I sure agree with every word you said. I believe that he really would stand there and yell out burn – baby – burn if he had seen this happen. His statement makes him lower that how he considers the police are. Also, like you, I think that if the police broke down his door they would have to look under the bed and find him there shaking and crying telling them “please don’t arrest me”.

@defeat the libs. Here we go again, with the “police put their life on the line for you” crap. Have you ever taken the time to look at the FACTS regarding on the job fatalities and injuries or do you rely on the idioms spoon fed to you since childhood? Police work is far less dangerous that you have been told.
Farmers, Fisherman, trashmen, roofers, just about any other profession that involves real work is more dangerous than police work.
The majority of police become police for a couple of reasons; Pay/benefits and power.
Take the time to educate yourself, and open your eyes .
