Diane Sawyer Stunned as Gas Price Jumps 10 Cents During Live ABC Report

A stunned Diane Sawyer couldn’t believe her eyes on Wednesday as gas prices jumped 10 cents at a California gas station as an ABC journalist was giving a report on rising gas prices.
The field reporter, Ceclia Vega, started her segment by standing in front of a flashing gas sign that ready $4.99. But by the end of the video segment, the sign behind Vega read $5.09.
“It went up 10 cents?” Sawyer exclaimed.
“10 cents during that two minutes while we were on the air,” Vega responded.
Here’s the before:
And here’s the after:
Watch it below:
By the way, it’s interesting to note that the ABC video report made sure to point out that most of the money paid at the pump gas goes to oil companies, but was noticeably silent about the Obama administration policies and positions that have contributed to rising prices (i.e. blocking the keystone pipeline and rising inflation).
The Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan tackled that concept in an column on Friday. While she acknowledged that a president can’t be held directly responsible for rising oil prices, Obama can’t be absolved completely.
“Oil is traded in dollars, and its price therefore rises when the value of the dollar falls, all else being equal,” she explains. “The Federal Reserve throughout Mr. Obama’s term has pursued the easiest monetary policy in modern times, expressly to revive the housing market. It has done so with the private support and urging of the White House and through Mr. Obama‘s appointees who are now a majority on the Fed’s Board of Governors.”
Oil prices rose to a fresh nine-month high above $108 a barrel Friday in Asia.
Benchmark crude for April delivery was up 59 cents to $108.42 per barrel late afternoon Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose $1.55 to settle at $107.83 in New York on Thursday.
Brent crude was up 55 cents at $124.17 per barrel in London.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 10:23am$5.00 per gallon? Why only $5.00? Or did you mean that $5.00 is to be the INCREASE this year perhaps? Print money and there will be inflation. Period. Especially if there are super low interest rates. Increase taxes and bureaucracy and there will be inflation. Have more people competing for a product and there will be price increases. Bill O’Reilly has his knickers in a twist that the oil companies are exporting some of their refined products – but he does not seem to understand that that is a GOOD thing ….. someone has to earn the dollars to pay for the import bill and bring down the TRADE deficit !!!!!! One cannot keep borrowing from China without end. AND at least those jobs doing the refining and re-exporting are US jobs. The key is MORE production and more refining capacity BUT there has been no new refining capacity built in eons due to the environmental lobby and government bureaucracy ….. keep on voting for idiots to keep on killing industry and eventually the people pay a very heavy price indeed.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 11:14amDespite obango repeatedly stating that “domestic oil production ”IS“ way up” prices continue to climb. Why?
Good question, naive.
Let me answer it. That’s because domestic oil “IS” being refined into gasoline (on our dime) and EXPORTED to buyers in China. Savvy?
Increases in domestic oil production aren’t being used HERE. So, they don’t impact the price of oil here. Profits still go to the oil companies, but the margin continues to widen.
obango is being obstinate. He KNOWS Americans calling for increased oil production domestically weren’t calling for it to be refined and exported to China. This “IS”, again, part of his “plan”, as he calls it.

Every time a middle-eastern country saber rattles and individuals able to buy a commodity without having a place to store it react to their sable rattling, we see oil prices skyrocket, and simultaneously, the king laughs because he knows tax revenue increases every time that scenario happens so he does everything he can do to make that scenario happen, ensuring his country will economically collapse.

I’m as angry about this as anyone, but since we are Conservatives, we try to be HONEST about what we say. In fact, the rise in price at the pump does NOT generate more tax revenues for the federal government nor for MOST states. You see, the federal (and most state) gas taxes are imposed as cents per gallon…not a PERcentage of sales. The federal tax rate (before Comrade in Chief raises it) is currently 18.5 cents per gallon…Just for clarification…

I also have 8-10 pop up ads that open in a new tab that I can’t stop. That is what slows it down. When you hit a story link, the code chain has to work through the algorythym to open the new tabs. I‘m starting to limit how much I come to the Blaze because I’m worried it may be installing background tracking scripts.
Anyway, I liked in the story how they said a full 1.60 goes to the oil co but rushed through the part about the .60 in taxes. I wish they’d break down the 1.60 and show that only about .20 is profit and as a publicly traded company, that money is distributed to PEOPLE as dividends. I have some in my IRA and I’ll bet the people slamming the oil companies do too.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 9:45amThe single biggest factor in the price of gasoline is the cost of crude oil. Taxes also play a part in the price of gasoline. The federal fuel excise tax on gasoline is 18.4 cents per gallon. Then all 50 states and the District of Columbia add their own excise tax. And most states tack on other fuel-related charges, such as license fees or environmental levies for things such as fuel storage tanks, that also add to the per-gallon price we drivers pay.
Highest gas taxes in the U.S:
Connecticut, 70.3 cents/gallon (25 cents/gallon)
New York, 69.1 cents/gallon (8.1 cents/gallon)
Illinois, 69.0 cents/gallon (19 cents/gallon)
