Dick Cheney on Gingrich: ‘I Wouldn’t Underestimate Him’

Dick Cheney Says We Shouldnt Underestimate Newt Gingrich

Former Vice President Dick Cheney has a message for America: don’t underestimate Newt Gingrich. In an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett, Cheney praised the Republican presidential contender’s persistence and tenaciousness, though he declined endorsing him (or any of the other candidates, for that matter).

“I have not endorsed anybody. I’ve stayed religiously out of the fray on our side this year,” Cheney told Burnett. “I‘ve been trying to sell books and that’s where my efforts have been focused.”

But when Burnett began asking about the GOP field, Cheney did offer his honest assessment of Gingrich’s record. After telling the CNN host that both he and Gingrich arrived at Congress during the same year — 1978 — the vice president went on to discuss the presidential hopeful’s quest for a Republican majority in the House of Representatives.

“When Newt showed up he said, ‘We can become the majority. We can take back the House of Representatives.‘ We hadn’t had the House since the 1940s,” Cheney explained. “Initially none of us believed him, but he was persistent and he was tenacious. He kept it up…and finally by ‘94, he’s the newly elected speaker of the House of Representatives with a Republican majority.”

Cheney concluded these remarks by telling Burnett, “I wouldn’t underestimate him.” The vice president was also sure to note, for a second time, that he isn’t yet endorsing any candidates.

Watch Cheney’s comments about Gingrich, below:

During another part of their discussion, Burnett asked Cheney of President Barack Obama should consider changing vice presidents in 2012.

“Any advice I’d give Barack Obama today would be, take a look at it,” Cheney responded. “Because there are a lot of good people out there. And it’s not personal. You go out and find the best candidate you can to run. And maybe, if he goes through that process, he’d end up with Joe Biden. On the other hand, there are people like Hillary Clinton, for example, your first woman vice president, that might have a certain appeal.”

How do we get the information we all know through Glenn Beck, to people who don’t really know who Newt Gingrich is? There has to be a way to change their minds on voting for him, he will kill America just as Obama is doing right now.

I hate to say it but I blame our young Republicans for not giving us the choice. Gov Christy, Rep Alan West, Sen Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan all of which could wipe the floor with Obama and all conservative and yet they don’t have the courage to run. So we are left with Newt, Romney, Bachman and what most people consider the crazy little man Ron Paul. Why Santorum doesn’t get any support is beyond me, the only thing I can think of is that the press keeps saying he can’t win and people are too stupid to ignore it.
But Beck is wrong, if Newt is all we have I will vote for him over Obama or a third party candidate. If you think I’m wrong go talk to president Perot. You know Perot he’s the guy that gave us Clinton.

Gingrich is overweight and 68, he will not last one term. I say lets pick his conservative running-mate and then feed Newt high cholesterol foods so he will stroke out. That’s as good as all the other conspiracy theories I read here.

Alex Jones tried to warn us about Glenn. Glenn says support Santorum. Someone that is safely out of race. Santorum says Newt was his mentor, so why isn’t he evil. Newt wins, Ron Paul runs 3rd party, Glenn Beck completes his mission. America has been duped. Glenn started this with by saying Media elite is pushing Newt. Somebody name 1. There isn’t 1. I trust Newt more than Glenn Beck. Where was this evil Newt at before. Glenn waits until he takes the lead and then he remembers that he is no better than Obama? All I know is Newt was the only one that stood on the stage and told the truth about Palestine. Now anti-semite Ron Paul should run 3rd party. I call B.S.

Michael Savage is offering Gingrich $1 million dollars to drop out of the race. Will Gingrich do it? No, simple because the Newtster knows he can make much more money staying in the campaign. Another conservative web journalist wrote a great article in which some would say that Gingrich is mentally deranged. Not in a “Frankenstein” way, but in the following way: one observes in the former House Speaker [Newt Gingrich] certain symptoms—bouts of great grandiosity, megalomania, irritability, racing thoughts, speaking without any filter, beliefs in obvious outright falsehoods and lies, spending sprees—that go beyond the ordinary politician’s normal narcissism. Mr. former Speaker, lobbyist, and ultimate DC insider, DO YOU TAKE LITHIUM or other psychogenic drugs? If so, WE THE PEOPLE have a right to know! Get out of the race Gingrich you dumbass$!!

Do you really think that this transfer of technology was an accident? If it was an accident, they could have destroyed that drone with any of a number of missile systems. Look back to Bernard Schwartz (Jewish) and the Loral Corporation technology transfer to China. It was no different than the Rosenberg (Jewish) transfer of atomic technology to the Soviet Union.
No accident. It’s globalism in action.

Come on Tea Party wake up do not let the media and the establishment pick our candidates again. You know in your heart that Romney, Gingrich, and Perry are huge Progressives who are for big government. Please Tea Party stick to your Principals, you know the only Conservative Candidates in the GOP are Michelle Bachman and Rick Santorum. They both stand with Israel and stand for the Constitution. Don’t you see that the media are using these polls to shape and weed out candidates they support or not support. They can’t stand the Tea Party and they will do anything ( Herman Cain) to stop us. They want to tell us that Bachman being a women means she won’t get full support throughout the country in order to beat Obama. Truth of the matter is my big Labodor would win in an election againt Obama because most of the country can’t stand him. Vote your principals and moral character. Come on vote Bachman or Santorum.

Newt’s a RINO, no doubt. But I have a hard time fitting Cheney into the RINO mold.

I don’t know – maybe it’s because Cheney is low-key and from Wyoming, but I get a tremendous sense of security when Cheney is in charge and I can’t figure out why. Gut instinct? Has he hoodwinked me?

In order to reverse the damage done by Obama, three things must happen in 2012. Republicans must maintain control of the House, win a 60 seat majority in the Senate plus choose the most conservative candidate that can defeat Obama. Without the Democrat majority in the Senate Obamacare would never have passed and our debt wouldn’t be accellerating as rapidly as it is. As the House passes bills to lower unemployment and balance the budget it is imperative to have a Senate that will approve and send the bills to a Republican President for signing without delay. We must be united once the candidates are chosen and remember that in many ways Obama’s administration has been much more destructive to this country than anything that has happened in our history. The Constitution must be restored and upheld for future generations to have any chance of living in a free society.

Sadly, you are parroting the sentiments of 2000. Back then we attained all of what you ask for, and nothing changed. Back then we had the House, Senate, and White House… and things actually got worse. Nominate another progressive like Gingrich, Romney, Perry, and nothing will change.
Fools continue to do the same thing, expecting a different result. And, we have significant proof that the Republican party has enough fools to do the same.

There is one huge difference between 2012 and 2000. We now have the tea party (which didn’t exist in 2000) to influence the candidates that will be elected to the House and Senate. That is where the laws are written. Once the law passes to the President‘s desk he can either sign or veto but it’s all about what’s written in the law that dictates the final outcome. The only fools are the ones that will get so caught up with not voting for the ultimate nominee in 2012 that they let Obama have another 4 years just for spite.

Oddly enough, while sitting here reading this our local talk radio station has been running recordings of Newt’s speeches past and present. In earlier days he praised Ronald Reagan and claimed that he would always be a Reaganite. In the latter speeches he praises FDR and refers to FDR as his favorite of all time modern presidents. Back in the ’90s I loved this guy, but he scares me as much today as Clinton and 0bama. I can see it happening all over again, the MSM will present us with another McCain candidate. I will vote for Newt over 0bama any day, but that is about as nice of a thing that I can say right now.
