Did Actor Denzel Washington Really Call Atheists ‘Sociopaths?’

Did Actor Denzel Washington Really Liken Atheists to Sociopaths?

Actor Denzel Washington (AP)

Denzel Washington, 57, is one of Hollywood’s most well-known and vocal Christians. His religious views are well-documented, as the actor has been more than open about sharing his religious perspective with fans and media outlets, alike. But recently, Washington has caught some negative attention for comments that some say link atheists to sociopaths.

While promoting his new movie “Safe House,” the actor described the difficulty of playing one of the main characters, Tobin Frost — an ex-CIA agent that has turned into an international (and infamous) criminal. When asked if it was challenging to portray the character, he said:

“There‘s a book I read called ’The Sociopath Next Door.’ And — I read something from it every day before I would go on the set. It really became my guide. When you think of a sociopath…you think of someone violent. The overwhelming majority of sociopaths aren’t violent. They just have a desire to win. They just don’t have a conscience — they don’t have it. The majority of them are atheists as well. So that was the book that was sort of my Bible if you will…in preparation for this part.”

See Washington make these comments, below:

In an interview with Matt Lauer of the “Today Show,” Washington made similar comments last week.

“I read this book called ‘The Sociopath Next Door,’ and that was like my Bible, that I related to,” he said. “The traits of a sociopath: No conscience, no sense of remorse, usually atheist, just always want to win, dominate…He‘s about to get waterboarded and he’s telling the guy he brought the wrong towels. He’s still trying to win.”

Here’s how the delivered those remarks (around 1:45):

These statements have sparked some harsh critiques and accusations. The Christian Post provides a recap of the debate surrounding his commentary:

The character description offended some who said that Washington was purposefully linking atheists and sociopaths. The Examiner published an article titled “Denzel Washington Associates Atheists with Sociopaths.” Users on the Examiner blog had mixed responses. Some compared his statements to that of Mel Gibson, who was accused of being anti-Semitic and stated that they would no longer watch Denzel Washington films due to the offensive remark.

However others suggested that linking the comment was a stretch. “I think this is way over blown. He is describing his character. There are atheist nut jobs out there just like there are religious nut jobs. In other words, the actions this character is committing is not due to some belief in God, but due to some other sociopath traits,” Christopher Lewis wrote.

After reviewing Washington’s actual quotes, it seems he was saying that sociopaths tend (the majority) to be atheists, not that atheists are definitively sociopaths. There’s clearly a difference between those two ideals.

What the author and the ideological lemmings here never took a logic class. Sociopaths being atheists does not translate to Atheists are Sociopaths. But thanks for the edgy approach. Its that kind of logic that says everyone who uses heroin started with pot…… they also drank milk as a kid.

From what I read it seems to me Denzel Washington -who is an excellent actor IMO ,said simply that the book he had read said many sociopaths tend to be atheists as well. I have not read the book myself–but it seems to fit what I ,myself have seen and believe to be true.

Now he’s the man of the year. I enjoy many of Denzels characters on the screen. To me he is kinda like the new John Wayne. Whoa! Before you jump all over me, JW played some devilish characters himself like in Red River.

Book of Eli really grabbed my attention for the way Denzel showcased sound morality against immoral sociopaths embodied in his nemesis Gary Oldhams character. Unfortunately, there are not enough real people like Denzel who are accepted by Hollywood producers and directors to have the same kind of impact the morally bound characters of 1940-1970. We went with the anti-hero instead from about 70 forward. The one who bucks the system and portrays everybody in it completely corrupt and devious even the military. I hope the tide will turn with the upcoming Valor movie about Navy Seals. Men need role models badly these days. Too much attention over the years turning women into unbelievable characters esp the kind with powers…both men and women. Real values without special powers are the real powers we need to showcase. Denzel is doing that. I don’t recall him ever playing an action hero or endowed with telekinetic powers. He did however pull off some good moves in Book of Eli but nothing over the top.

I’ts not clear to me the book actually says that sociopaths are disproportianately athiests. I doubt any legitimate psychologist would claim athiesm causes anyone to be an sociopath. But I can believe that many of the most successful people in our country are sociopaths: people whose success is due in part because they don’t care who or how many people they step on or destroy on their path to acquiring wealth. You know the type.

      His words JZS.

No one said atheism causes someone to be a sociopath. It was said that most sociopaths tend to be atheists.

Sociopaths/atheists seldom are attempting to acquire WEALTH. It is always power ……….. similar to politicians, especially on the left (power over peoples lives).

He is 100% correct according to the Mayo clinic!

      “Definition
      By Mayo Clinic staff

Antisocial personality disorder is a type of chronic mental illness in which a person’s ways of thinking, perceiving situations and relating to others are abnormal — and destructive.

People with antisocial personality disorder typically have no regard for right and wrong. They may often violate the law and the rights of others, landing in frequent trouble or conflict. They may lie, behave violently, and have drug and alcohol problems. And people with antisocial personality disorder may not be able to fulfill responsibilities to family, work or school.

Antisocial personality disorder is sometimes known as sociopathic personality disorder. A sociopath is a particularly severe form of antisocial personality disorder. “

In a way, Denzel is absolutely correct! WHY? Look at the atheists these past several years. They are WAGING WAR on Christians and anyone else or entity that allows GOD into classrooms, government, and anyplace else. THEY MUST WIN their cause OR ELSE. I have not read lately that they have become violent because I believe there are not as many of them as there are Christians and non-Atheists. DO YOU GET IT YET? However, after having said that, I do believe earth is in its last days before the coming of Jesus Christ and/or the Rapture, whichever you believe. Therefore, I believe Atheists and other evil beliefs and cults will come forward and stand together AGAINST US.

I said all that to say this: IF YOU ARE NOT PRAYED UP AND WALKING WITH THE LORD, YOU WILL LOSE. Do any of you understand this????

We are waging a SPIRITUAL WARFARE BATTLE, ESPECIALLY HERE IN AMERICA, a country founded by divine providence, BUT because a LOT of God-fearing Americans LEFT THEIR FIRST LOVE BEHIND (when they first fell in love with Jesus and gave their lives to Him) and continued on in their everyday lives, NOT READING THEIR BIBLES AND PRAYING, have weakened God’s stronghold on our great country.

THOSE OF YOU WHO DO NOT READ YOUR BIBLE AND PRAY DAILY, WILL ANSWER TO GOD FOR THAT – MARK MY WORDS. That is, thus saith the Lord.

In order to draw God back into strengthening this country & protecting it, YOU MUST PRAY DAILY, AND SOMETIMES MORESO.

Do any of you get this yet?????????

An illustrative example of a sociopath would be Jim Baker, former televangelist. He was a hugely successful conman and sociopath Christian. He started the Christian ministry the PTL (pass the loot) club, and leveraged his fund raising skill to buy his own television network and theme park.

But he also live like a king and payed himself millions of dollars in salary not concerned that his lavish lifestyle was paid for by many of the poorest of Christ’s children. He kept a mistress and the payed her a couple of hundred thousand dollars in his churche’s donations to keep her silent. He defrauded his flock without a thought of remorse, unless maybe after he was caught and then sought “God’s redemption.” Like Gingrich. Then he probably cried a little like Jimmy Swaggart after confessing his trysts. Then, as a devout Christian, he was good to go in God’s eyes.

This is the kind of person Denzel, and the book, are describing. There are other example of sociopaths who aren’t televangelists for sure, but I imagine a like Jim Baker is the kind of the guy Denzel is playing in this movie. Can’t wait to see it!

And your point is exactly what, JZS?

Was someone here claiming that Jimmy was a great guy? No/

Was someone here claiming that no self described religious person could ever be a sociopath? No.

Did anyone claim that all atheists were sociopaths? No.(Although you did create a straw man argument in your first post about the “legitimate” psychologist)

So what exactly is the point of your pulling the name out of thin air, of a long forgotten, fake Christian charlatan. Other that to join in and pile on with all the rest of Christian bashers flooding the landscape lately.

Tell me JZS, do you feel the need to always get the last word, or to always “WIN” the debate?

Well, I think that Denzel is technically correct. Even more, most atheists are probably sociopaths.

“Religion is opium for people” – Karl Marx.

Yes, religion (faith) serves as a painkiller or Prozac: it gives a person hope, it helps to cope with difficulties. A faithless person is kinda sick, he is kinda missing a part of his consciousness.

FINALLY! Another atheist that isn’t a commie, pinko, facist, bedwetting, bundle of sticks (via the fasces).
I do understand the want to believe in a deity. Being able to give over your burdens makes your life easier. Most people don’t understand that even though we may want it, it would require us to lie to ourselves.
If you are seeking truth though, try reading proverbs. It’s not really overtly religious. If you can decipher analogies it’s just a compilation of truths about the world we live in.
If that doesn’t work for you, I’d love to speak with you. I’m sure your experiences would be a boon to me, and hopefully vice versa.

      Yo Michael61:

I do not believe in Jesus to make my life “easier”. I believe in Jesus because of truth … the truth of the bible. Actually my faith has made my life more difficult in some ways. There is no one like Jesus; He is a fact of History and prophesied about in Isaiah and the Pslams hundreds of years before His actual birth. There are over 500 prophesies recorded in the bible ALL of which to date have come true and the days we live in , I believe are those spoken of in Revelation. This last part … my timming could be incorrect about, though is does not seem to be.

If you are SERIOUS about finding the truth, do not wish, pray / ask for God to reveal His truth to you …. blessings

@4Truth: “Easier” doesn’t mean that you work less, or that you don’t sacrifice yourself for others, but at least you have hope. It is much easier being you than being me (realizing that there is nobody to help but myself, that there is nobody to pray, that I have to make all the decisions myself).

To everyone: Well, my great- (grand-) and parents were Catholics, Orthodox Christians, Jews, Muslims, atheists, and whatever else. I feel myself rather a Taoist (no god, but The Geat Emptiness)…

i appreciate your honesty. the first thing one must do is realize they are a sinner (personally not collectively) and fall short of the Glory of God. Jesus is the gift of redeeming us back to a Holy and Righteous God. as the other poster said, life does not get easier it gets harder in some ways but we have a hope in the person, the work of Christ on the cross and his resurrection.

Michael, I also agree with Denzel – look at how atheist organizations just can’t let people be Christians. They put up bill boards and put in ads in the newspaper downing religion. They sue over the word God being on our money and in our pledge. They seek to take Christ out of Christmas and to take religion out of our history as a country. A Christian, because of their belief that someone unsaved goes to hell, has a reason to try to have an atheist to recognize God but what is the motivation for an atheist to seek Christians to forsake God? There is none other than for their own gratification.

That is the greatest mistery of the Universe. Emptiness contains the potential to become anything. It is a sea of potential particles and structures, stars, galaxies, living beings… How magnificient!

Creator is too easy hypothesis for me. Somebody created the Universe and made it self-organizing, so it contains an infinite number of complicated structures? Too easy an explanation. And of course, who created the Creator?

The ONLY way to believe in the one true God Jehovah IS TO READ THE HOLY BIBLE. Pray before you do so and ask God to fill your heart and being with faith and belief EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU READ IT.

I used to be an atheist, as well. Oh, I thought there was something out there, but I was challenged by a friend of mine to do what I just told you and it took about 3 months, but suddenly my heart changed, my outlook, and faith changed. I cannot explain exactly how it did, but it did. However, to keep your faith, YOU MUST READ AND PRAY DAILY OR AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN. This allows the Holy Spirit to surround you, to help you.

Lastly, YOU WILL MAKE MISTAKES during your faith travels. ALL PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES, whether they are followers of Christ or not. The difference is, Christians have someone they can go to discuss it and ask forgiveness – GOD AND JESUS. The non-believer has nothing, no one and that guilt build and builds and builds. If they die before they accept Christ, GOD WILL NOT GIVE THEM GRACE at that time. That is what BLASPHEMING MEANS. A person who blasphemes will deny God/Jesus/Holy Ghost all the way to death and then after death, God WILL judge them as someone who is AGAINST HIM (as an enemy).

This idea that GOD IS LOVE AND WOULD NEVER HARSHLY JUDGE A NON-BELIEVER is just a big lie of the devil so the devil can snare them and take them for his own. How can you reward evil with good and good with evil? That is contrary to God’s word.

How hard is it to believe that you were created by a greater being. You would rather attempt to believe you evolved from a puddle of goo against higher odds than if there may be higher forms of life in your own universe.
How sad to believe you are an accident and you accidentally occurred by chance. It is amazing that new forms of life just don’t continue to develop by chance. Nothing new, just the same old animals and people.

My heart goes out to you and any and all atheists who really would like to believe. I was a life long searcher after truth in all the wrong places: new age, science of mind, metaphysics. occult, you name it…I know now the Truth. I have a relationship with the God of all creation. There is a big difference knowing all this stuff in the mind and actually having a heart experience. I had studied the bible for years and it was just head knowledge. But then I did humble myself and admit I was a sinner and could not save myself and needed to be redeemed. That started a relationship with the Holy Spirit. His Presence is more real to me than anything in this life. I was cold and frozen and unmoved all my life, my mind and intelect I used as a weapon and defense and it was my god. But once I asked Yahshua to not only be my savior but Lord and Master things changed. He said in the bible he sent the comforter (the Holy Spirit), I know thats true. I experience the Holy Spirit’s touch, I feel his warmth on the side of my face, or in my belly, sometimes all around like a blanket of warmth, its a deep thing, a real thing. He gives me the peace that passes understanding. I don’t know how anyone functions in the mad world of today without Him. I weep for you. I have been in the place of quiet desparation, of despair at an emptiness nothing would fill. But the reason people feel that urge is because He will fill it. He is real and you can have a relationship with your Creator.

To continue this..Just ask, speak from your heart and ask God to show you He is real. If you are reading the bible ask Him to show you its truth. He will. He loves you. You are not a random event in a universe of sound and fury signifying nothing. You are a precious child of the most High. If you don’t know where to start in the bible the Book of John, as John was the most beloved of Yahshua’s disciples, its all about God’s love. And the Psalms are wonderful to read. The Lord will not turn away anyone who calls out to Him. This is not a thing of the head, its a thing of the heart. The bible tells us that the things of the spirit are foolishness to the flesh. I believe anyone who made the comments you made is not so much an atheist but an agnostic. I know so many have been soured by religion. I was. I am talking about a relationship where the Almighty becomes intimate to you and there is no part of your life that He is not involved in. I have had that experience for a relatively short time going on 8 years, but every day in every way His hand is directing my path. I am not saying that stuff doesn’t come up. Challenges, tests, trials. But the Word is my weapon. The Holy Spirit is my best friend, my dearest friend. I pray He becomes yours too. Blessings in the Name of Yahshua

@Michael61 Atheism is an absolute position – It means that you are convinced that deities do not exist. This is opposed to agnosticism which believes that the existence of deities is impossible to know with certainty, or deists or theists that believe that a deity or deities (probably or certainly) exist.

Atheism requires adherents to assert against theism, because it is a non-belief. It is the equivalent of aphilosophy. It requires adherents to take a materialist scientific view of existence.

At its core, atheism is a position which refuses to answer or even acknowledge the question “why?”. To clarify – Science attempts to answer “how?”. How does our existence work? How does our universe work? How do we exist? Religion (philosophy) is the study of “why?”. Why is our existence what it is? Why does our universe work? Why do we exist?

Everything to do with science answers “how?”. Everything to do with religion answers “why?” The monotheistic idea of God – an omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent entity that is the ultimate creator and answer to “why?”. I came to understand a while back that absolute atheism is impossible for a sane person to believe. It’s impossible because it is insanity. Morality is absolute. It is absolute because it comes from God and God is absolute. Without God, there is no morality. That is why sociopaths are always atheists.

@Michael61 My guess is that you’re probably more of an agnostic than an atheist. You can’t bring yourself to believe there is a God (or gods)? You want to believe?

You want to believe there is a God because you understand the concept of “why?”. You understand that there is a reason for things. You have reason. “Why?” you do things isn’t limited to “how?” you exist. Materialist science doesn’t answer “why?”. It only answers “how?”. It doesn’t answer why we become sad. It doesn’t answer why we prefer rock and roll or why we prefer classical music. It doesn’t answer why we love. It doesn’t answer why murder is immoral.

Whether you believe in a religious view of God or not, understand that God is the answer to “why?” for those who do believe in monotheism. It’s not superstition. It’s not hypothetical. It is a “must be” conclusion to the philosophical question “why?”. Without God, there are no absolutes. There is no answer to “why?”, and there is no reason for anything. Everything is relative. There is no morality for atheism. There is only cultural tradition without any purpose. But we know that reason exists. We know because we experience it. That reason itself exists is inherent proof of “God”, however we understand Him.

@Michael61 Besides being illogical, there is no reason to it as it is an utter rejection of having a reason for anything. Atheism taken to its conclusion, to its absolute, is an embracement of oblivion and is inextricably linked to nihilism/oblivionism. If you feel compelled to reject what seems fantastic in religion, so be it. If you think all religious theories on the Creation are myth, so be it. It’s not illogical or irrational to make the case that such things are unknowable and doubtful. But, even if those are the limitations you give yourself, those positions aren’t directly linked to atheism. Believing that such things are unknowable or doubtful isn’t the same as adhering to the position that it is certain that there is no “why?“ or an answer to ”why?”. It isn’t the same as believing with certainty that there is no God or gods.

As for myself, I believe in the Judeo-Christian God. I have my personal reasons for believing in God. I have seen what I believe to be irrefutable evidence of Him. I FEEL Him. Perhaps some day you will too. But, whether you do or not, I hope that some day you’ll at least understand the pointlessness of adhering to atheism.

Cool. Of course I know the distinction between “Why?“ and ”How?”, between religion and science.

Btw, the question “Why?“ has an answer ”Why not?”. That’s the ultimate explanation for evolution.

Why one butterfly has green wings and another has orange? Well, why not?

Taoism again: Emptiness is the Mother of 10,000 things. Emptiness has the potential to become

ANYTHING (within confines of natural laws). It has a potential for self-organizing.

If god existed, he would be a computer programmer. You don’t have to specify each and every last

detail, just make a self-repeating program (loop) and run it. You can generate amazingly

complicated patterns using very simple programs. Check out fractals.

Most mathematicians don’t believe that laws of mathematics (and physics) have to make any sense

at all. Those formulas are simply the result of a huge caleidoscope which is the Universe.

For instance, there is no explanation “Why?” the relationship between Pi, exponent, circle,

complex numbers, and electro-magnetic fields exists. It just happened this way that the area of a

circle is equal to 3.141592… times the square of the radius of the circle.

Go ahead, try to explain “Why?” you can calculate this:

      Pi = 3 * Sum(n = 0 to infinity) ((2n of n) / (16 ^ n * (2n+1))) = 3 + 1/8 + 9/640 + 15/7168 +

      35/98304 + …

      Why not???

      Posted on February 16, 2012 at 5:26pm

“Why not?“ is not an answer to ”why?”. It’s another question. “Why?” asks for an affirmation. “Why not?” asks what is not an affirmation. Your use of “Why not?” as an answer to your butterfly question is an admittance of ignorance, and a statement that you believe that your ignorance doesn’t matter. It does not answer “Why?” at all. An answer would be, “God loves beauty and diversity.”. You actually prove the point that atheistic mentality refuses to acknowledge “why?”.

Then there is the scientific question “how?”. “How is it that one butterfly has green wings and another has orange?”. A scientific answer would be to state what chemicals cause the colors, what differences in genetics causes the color difference, and the physics of how light is reflected to create color. An evolutionist theory may be that the orange butterfly survived among orange flowers that were abundant while the green butterfly survived among green leaves or flowers that were abundant. Evolution isn’t an answer to “why?”. Evolution is a theory that is an attempt to answer “how?”.

Saying “why not?“ as an answer to ”why?“ is like saying ”how would it not?“ as an answer to ”how?“ ”How does one butterfly have orange wings and another has green?“ ”How wouldn’t it?”. You indicate very clearly that you do not, in fact, know/perceive the distinction/difference between “why?“ and ”how?”.

@ Michael61 And related to your comparison of God to a programmer – You make it obvious that you’re not completely grasping the concept of God. God isn’t just the programmer. God is. Existence is. Because God is, existence is. The material element of existence is because God made it. God didn’t just program the computer. God brought the raw materials for the computer into existence. He assembled the computer. Then he programmed the computer. Now he interacts with the computer.

And I understand why you brought it up. You were getting at the idea/theory that God could have created the universe and simply set existence into motion. The result of our existence now and how the universe functions is as a result of the ultimate God algorithm. That is theory of deists and theists of “how?” our existence came to be. Get that? “How?”, not “why?”.

Your math question was a fallacy. Math is a tool that we can use to explore and explain “how?” our universe works. Asking “why?“ I can calculate any mathematical equation is the equivalent to asking ”why?” I have the capability to think and calculate at all. An answer would be, because God intended me to have the ability to explore the universe around me. Again, “why not?” is simply an admission of ignorance. “Why not?” – What conclusion is it? The way you use it, it is as if to assert that there is no reason “why not?” and therefore it is. It’s just a cancellation of “why?”.

“Why” is a loaded question. If you keep asking “Why”, you will either come to Creator, or answer “Why not?”.

“How” leads you to discovery of more and more new interesting facts and theories. “Why” is the dead end. You already know the answer to “Why”, so you may just stop thinking.

Religion is an allegory. The Universe has many natural forces and laws, and the religion is an attempt by humans to understand them.

There are always some opposing forces: Order and Chaos, Establishment and Rebellion, Good and Evil, Hot and Cold, Individualism and Collectivism, Male and Female, etc. You call them God and Devil. Chinese call them Yin and Yang. Karl Marx called them “Unity and struggle of opposites”.

Good and Evil (God and Devil) is only one dimension, it is too simple concept. There is an infinite number of other (orthogonal) dimensions in the Universe, and you can’t simply project them on the Good – Evil axis.

That’s why religious people keep arguing is a particular thing “good” or “evil”. Is it good to feed hungry? Yes, but not if they refuse to work, you just spoil them. Is it evil to kill somebody? Yes, but not if he is attacking your wife with a knife.

Yup, there are no absolutes. Altough, I told you that by your Christian standards, I should be called a saint. I don’t kill, I don’t steal, I help people, and I always realize that I am a sinner and should repent.

I HAVE though seen christians blow up abortion clinics where they hurt or killed people. I have seen christians murder abortion doctors. I have seen christians blow up buildings (Oklahoma?). You might all say “well, they weren’t REAL christians”. The point is they identified with a particular set of Christian beliefs, even if they weren’t the same as mainstream Christianity. So we can’t assume ALL Christians believe in killing abortion docs or that ALL atheists have no morals. If anything, I find myself more a follower of Christ’s compassion than most of the Xtians I knew.

What I HAVE seen is the sociopathic bigotry of not letting atheists or gays become a part of the conservative movement even though we may share the same principles of small government (even though most of you want to shove your Christ down our throats…. so much for small government), fiscal responsibility and strong military. It’s no wonder all atheists and gays go straight for the Libturd Party. You give us no choice. Atheists just don’t want you to legislate YOUR morality on us. Believe in your God, I will respect your right to do so, but also respect my right to not believe as you do. That’s why he said “usually”, I think. Besides, once you start believing you are god, it’s hard to be a member of an established religion, so you start your own.

I don’t know if atheist are sociopaths, but is sure seems like most of them are aggressive bigots.

PS: Love you, Denzel! Can’t wait to see this movie.

My husband and I saw this movie last night as we like most of Denzel’s stuff. This movie was very good but I didn’t care (at all!) for the camera work. Just about got a headache with all the shaky camerawork. Why do they think they have to film like that? Have tripods for level stability suddenly become taboo?

Denzel is a really great actor, and seems to be a down to earth guy. I heard a rumor that he regularly writes checks to cover needs that he comes across during his travels, but doesn’t like to take credit for it. He just sounds like a nice guy to me.

No, Denzel Washington did not say atheists are sociopaths. He said that in the book he was reading, sociopaths are usually atheist. That is a lot different than saying atheists are sociopaths. I thought the blaze was about truth. The headline is misleading.

The title asks the question “Did Actor Denzel Washington Really Call Atheists ‘Sociopaths?’” I do not believe they were implying that he did. They only titled it to lead the reader to discover the answer for themselves. Which by the way is a little different as well. I think it was an attempt to shut down those who would argue, that it is what he said, before they could even open their mouth’s. Jussayin :)

BEARGRASSNC, I have always loved his movies. He is a fantastic actor. The Blaze did not say that Mr. Washington actually made that statement. (The head line was not misleading as some are implying. Re-read it.) It was nice to hear that Mr. Washington is not afraid to speak out. Good for him. Look forward to seeing his movie.

Clearly calling most sociopaths atheists, not all atheists sociopaths. Now if that offends sociopaths across the country, so be it.

No, he is just making a comment that most sociopaths are athiests. It’s like saying the majority of murderers are one race, the majority of thieves are another race, the majority of people who do such and such are male or female. Everything gets so blown out of proportion these days. I Love Denzel Washington Movies!

He didn’t say most atheists are sociopaths, just that most sociopaths are atheists. And both he and the book’s author are correct. In order to possess the predominate traits of a sociopath one must believe that he or she doesn’t have to answer to anyone but themselves. In effect, there is no power higher than themselves (i.e God) or they are their own God. This also explains why most sociopaths are not Conservatives.

The people getting all up at arms about what he said don’t understand logic. They were never taught it. If most sociopaths are athiests it does not follow that most athiests are sociopaths. But these poor idiots don’t understand.

Brian’s comment is logically correct. I might add that many sociopaths are religious fanatics, in that they confuse their personal vendetta with “God’s will,“ unilaterally executing judgment without mercy or remorse on the ”infidels.” If that sounds like a condemnation of Islam, think again; Consider “The Church of Jesus Christ–Christian,” a white supremacist group that attempts to exploit the Bible to justify their hatred of everyone they judge as different from themselves.

And most psychopaths have deeply rooted religious beliefs and a lot of their psychosis is based in it.

Funny how ma ny studies also show that most CEOs could be classified as sociopaths, along with national level politicians. Makes you wonder which Bible wavers in DC are acting just to win.

      Exactly.

Liberals need to accept that is they are going to live among normal human beings, they MUST apply the same yardstick to everyone. Otherwise, when we have the trials for treason in a few years, the liberal politicians will get longer jail sentences simply because they are Liberal dirt-bags versus the Conservative dirt-bags.

I am still waiting for someone in the media to point out the falsehood in Juan Williams’ interview that Juan got fired for. The one where he said he would be uncomfortable if on a plane and young Muslim men came onboard. He got fired for that expression of his feelings. But no one even said a word about the falsehoods he uttered. Specifically, Juan said that Eric Rudolf and Timothy McVeigh we “Christians” — when they were clearly Atheists. Surprise, surprise. Atheists and sociopaths! What a shocker.

Actors and entertainers are people and are entitled to their views.

That said, knowing my livelihood depended on the public’s good graces I think I would keep my opinion to myself. The one exception is Christianity as a true Christian understands he is not only supposed to lead a Christian life himself but to also spread the gospel message. Still…There are right and wrong ways to do that. I think an entertainer should include God and his faith but not beat people up with it. Even at that there are many who will still be offended…but whatever…

What am I saying here? I dont know, kind of got away from me I guess…I do not think Washington was out of line with his comment though.
