Did Anti-Gay Marriage Republican Cruise for Male Prostitute on Craigslist?

Phillip Hinkle Indiana Male Prostitute Kameryn Gibson

Here’s how it reportedly went down: 64-year-old, married Indiana state representative, Phillip “Phil” Hinkle — who voted in favor of a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage — allegedly tried to procure an 18-year old male prostitute named Kameryn Gibson on the “men seeking men” section of Craigslist and then offered the young lad $80 plus tip for a “good time” Saturday night at the JW Marriott hotel.

Once at the hotel, Hinkle, in perhaps not the brightest move, reportedly showed his official ID to the male prostitute. Shortly thereafter Gibson, whose ad said he was seeing a “sugga daddy,” had a change of heart and called his sister, Megan, from the hotel suite’s bathroom to come and pick him up. That’s when Hinkle allegedly tried to prevent Gibson from leaving.

Now here’s where it gets really weird. Gibson claims the lawmaker then grabbed him in the buttocks, exposed himself and later offered him a bribe of an iPad, BlackBerry and $100 cash to keep quiet.

At some point, Gibson’s sister also became involved in the situation via speakerphone, threatening to expose Hinkle if he did not let her brother go.

The Indy Star breaks down the scene from there:

When Gibson came out [of the bathroom], he said Hinkle told him he couldn’t leave. Gibson called his sister again. This time, Megan told him to put her on speakerphone.

“I started cussing him,” Megan told The Star. She also threatened to call the police and the local media.

“He said, ‘I’ll give you whatever,’” Megan said.

But when they hung up, Kameryn Gibson said Hinkle grabbed him by the right arm, just below the shoulder. Gibson said it was then that Hinkle grabbed him in the rear, dropped his towel and sat down on the bed — naked.

When Megan Gibson arrived to pick up her brother, she again threatened to call police and the local media.

Since the story broke, however, Hinkle is now claiming he is the victim of a “shakedown.” What’s more, he’s not even flat-out denying the allegation:

When contacted by The Star about the emails, Hinkle, a Republican who represents portions of Pike and Wayne townships, did not contest the emails but said, “I am aware of a shakedown taking place.”

Asked what he meant by shakedown, Hinkle would not elaborate. He directed further questions to his attorney.

Hinkle’s lawyer, defense attorney Peter Nugent, said he was unable to say what Hinkle meant by a “shakedown.” Nugent said he is investigating the situation, but he does not know what happened Saturday. Nugent said he has not filed a police report and does not yet know whether he will.

Asked whether he had seen the emails and the Craigslist posting, Nugent said, “Oh, I’ve seen some emails, but not all of them.” He would not be more specific.

“I’m trying to get to the bottom of everything involved,” Nugent said.

Wednesday, Nugent faxed this “official statement”:

“Representative Hinkle is aware of the inquiries by The Indianapolis Star and we are investigating the matter at this time. We request that everyone respect the privacy of the family at this time.”

This doesn’t look good for Hinkle. When will lawmakers wise up and learn to steer clear of the easily-traceable Craigslist and social media sites to carry out dubious deeds.

How many hypocrites must we go through to get honest, solidly fiscal conservatives? Ron Paul makes more and more sense every time I listen to him. Its not gay rights, or civil rights or women’s rights, it is LIBERTY, folks, not discrimination.

As a liberal, I won’t slam this guy, or Ted Haggard (the TV evangelist) or Larry Craig (the “wide stance” guy). I’ll only point out that homosexuality has been with us since mankind began, no less then than now. I don’t even understand why anyone is surprised by stuff like this. If he committed something horrible, it was cheating on his wife. Or his hypocrisy.

Therightsofbilly, good point. I’m with you 100% on that. What are these guys thinking? Honestly I don’t care what adults do consensually, but you have to be pretty screwed up to be in public office and expose yourself – so to speak – to something that is almost certain to become public knowledge at some point. That seems like a pathological compulsion or a “death wish” or something. What better way is there for a polician to discgrace himself?

The thing that I find facinating is that female politicians never do those things, or if they do or have, I’ve never heard of it. Why is that?

Right on, Shane! It is all about liberty. The ability to live our lives without interfering with another’s rights, and protected from others interfering with ours. I too am gay, and these sleezy politicians are the worst king of hypocrite. Drum him out of office and out of town on a rail.
@ Jefferson, I don‘t know if I’d call the rest of the GOP field posers. No matter how you look at it, we’re FAR better off than 3 years ago. Of the last field of GOP candidates for president, Romney was one of the most conservative. Today, he’s the most liberal. Well, him and Huntsman. This is the best group to choose from in decades. Santorum would be excellent, and I’d love to see Bachmann make it. No matter the nominee, they’d be stupid to not make Cain their running mate (assuming he’s not the nominee). A Bachmann/Cain ticket with the promise of Ron Paul for Sec of Treasury, and Allen West as Sec Def, would be a dream come true. Of course, while I”m dreaming, I‘d wish Calvin Coolidge and Ronald Reagan back from the dead and they’d make Margaret Thatcher Sec of State. No matter what, we have FAR better choices than the last time around.

Every time some congressman gets his tallywhacker in a ringer with another man, we hear this nonsense about what a hypocrite he is for opposing gay marriage.

He didn’t try to marry the guy. He just wanted sex.

If he had tried to get married to the guy, then he would be a hypocrite. Gays seem to think that every gay person is in favor of gay marriage, but that is not the case. Grow up with this hypocrite nonsense. He was just horny. And stupid.

If he were a lib democrat, it would not matter, as morality never seems to be an issue with the dems. On the positive side, as a republican, he is all done, should step down, and will never get re-elected. What he did was evil, and against nature, morality, and decency. He was a wolf in sheeps clothing. Nothing changes, homosexuality is still against nature, still wrong, still against Bible truth. Marriage is still between a man and a woman.

I’m surprised, but I agree with you. Just because the man is against gay marriage doesn‘t mean he’s not gay (or has gay tendencies, since it says he’s married). Elton John has come out and said that he’s against gay MARRIAGE, that’s what civil unions are for. I’m not against gays having civil unions. I’d rather, if they were going to be that way, stay with the same partner a long time. I’m against loose straights, too. It causes health problems (STD’s, Aids, etc.) That being said, I’m also against calling a prostitute of any sex.

@Looseyloo, you’re right, he is not a hypocrite unless he has been vocal against gays being treated equally and against homosexuality in general. That was the impression I got from the headline and article, but in retrospect, it does only say he is against gay marriage – no mention of any other stance against homosexuality. My bad.
@ One Years, ask any woman the same question. By your reasoning, all women should be gay. What I’ve always found VERY telling is that most straight men I have known who say they are against gays have no problem with two women being sexually intimate. That the fairer sex is prettier is not really the point, is it? We are attracted to who we are attracted to, period. BTW, some gay men like a hairy butt, some don’t, some like both. I’m sure women who are attracted to men are similarly enchanted or not with various male features. To each his own.

What I do not like, is all the radical Ron Paul followers who only know how to act like radical progressives. Ron Paul followers remind me of the Bill Ayers Weather Underground movement. And that‘s why I will not vote for him and it’s also why he never wins. His radical followers are as crazy as Van Jones and Saul Alinski. Here’s the score.. Obama 1… Ron Paul 0. Joe makes a good point. If you say one behavior is normal when it is outside the mainstream then you have to admit every behavior including pedophilia is somehow normal becaue they cannot control themselves. I have a gay cousin and I can’t tell you one way or the other, he has been with both but this is what makes him happy, he obviously wasn’t born that way, at least the girls he dated don’t think so…

@ADAISMEUS – using your cousin as the example I think only shows that he had no choice. If he dated both male and female and “chose” to be gay after that it would suggest some kind of persecution complex. Why would anyone choose to be gay and live with the scorn of people who will not accept their life choice. As for peds and others, I do not have the answer, but I do not believe one chooses to be a ped either. Something in them is wired for this behaviour and despite it being destructive they cannot help themselves. That does it entirely against the norms of society is something they care little for. Perhaps they were just born thousands of years too late, as that kind of behaviour was readily acceptible in ancient cultures such as Greek and Roman and many others…including the FLDS and its predecessors.
