Did Community Organizers Bus Out Of State Protesters In To Support Chicago Teachers’ Unions?

Remember when the Tea Party was being accused of being a deceitful, astroturf organization that was secretly on the payroll of secretive right wing organizations, and whose protesters weren’t genuinely interested? Sure, you do. It was just one of the many evidence-free smears used by the Left to try and keep the nascent movement out of the mainstream.

What terrifying subversives look like, according to the Left
Naturally enough, it didn’t work – largely because there was no evidence for it, and because the Tea Party movement‘s motives weren’t specific or myopic enough to have come from interest groups. However, the same cannot be said for the numerous Leftist protest movements, most of which are focused on getting goodies for one particular interest group, and thus often require more than just the members of those groups to support them.
Exhibit A: Chicago‘s Teachers’ Unions, who recently protested against Chicago’s Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, for doing something or other they didn’t like, and embarrassed themselves in the process. Not only that, but a few of the protesters inadvertently disclosed something suspicious about their affiliations.
EAGnews put up two videos showing the absurdity of the protests – the first hints at the suspicious element while also showing some highly amusing clips of the protesters, but the second goes further into depth and really shows where it comes in. First, the highly entertaining summary clip:
EAGnews’ description of this video should suffice as a preview:
EAGnews caught some humorous sights and sounds from the day, including protesters bused in from Detroit to hold up signs they didn’t understand, as well as a union activist marching uniformly, chanting in rhythm with the collective, only to explain she’s an individual and not a robot!
Other hilarity includes the familiar “Yes We Can” chant, as well as a failed attempt to employ the “mic check” tactic of the Occupy protests.
And then there’s the second video, which takes a shorter segment from the first video and extends it to demonstrate something rather odd:
Did you catch that? The protesters claim they’re not even from Chicago (despite holding signs that say “This is our Chicago”), but were bussed in from Detroit by a group called “Good Jobs Now.”
So the question arises – who exactly is “Good Jobs Now?” The answer is that they are a Detroit-specific Community Organizing outfit apparently devoted to such standard Leftist hobbyhorses as preventing Voter ID laws and protesting pay cuts for public sector workers. Take a look at some photos from some of their previous events to get a general idea of the tenor of the group’s attitude:
And that’s just in Detroit. Heaven knows where else they’ve been. However, one niggling question remains – why are they involved in Chicago? How does this help a group like this at all, given that the group’s mission statement says nothing about involvement in other states? After all, those bus tickets don’t come cheap. Wouldn’t their efforts be better spent elsewhere?

Posted on May 29, 2012 at 8:33pmBussing people to actions is a commonplace show of solidarity. Me and 21 other people had our vans rented for us by the union and we drove 20 hours to a demonstration. Though none of us were paid, we were bought lunch! To be honest, some of my comrades in our VANguard couldn’t have appropriately handled encountering a camera person, that’s why there are always media point people appointed before the action. At any action, you can find people who aren’t very good at articulating the talking points. Take a look at the work that New Left Media has done on the Tea Party protests/demonstrations for a great example of that. Hell, I’ve given a few interviews I wish I could take back in my early organizing days. I’ll see you in the streets, righties!

Posted on May 29, 2012 at 11:48pmOh, I’m aware that nothing is free. I’m aware that the money for our trip came from somewhere and I assure you (not that that means much to ya) that the proper channels were gone through to authorize it. I see it as an investment by one generation of workers and organizers in another, really. My comrades and I learned a lot about tactics and brought a lot of information back to our local progressive community, so I’d say the investment was worth it.
I wouldn’t consider myself an Occupier first and foremost, but I stand in solidarity with them. I like to think of myself as a labor agitator, really, in the vein of Eugene Debs. The people of this nation cannot expect to keep their standard of living when there exists such a dramatic division of wealth. My solution to this conundrum is not to occupy public space overnight like some of my comrades, but to mobilize the workers in order to force the hand of those in charge.
Oh, no! A grammatical error!? I’ve lost your respect forever! I’ll never convince you to join me in my revolt against capitalism which was totally my goal when I signed up for this site! On the real though, I like how you harp on my mistake but manage to ignore the heinous mistakes of some of your fellow conservatives. It’s okay, all is fair. Hell, I would do it to you. Uncle Alinsky taught that ridicule is indispensable tactic and one that’s hard to counter.

Posted on May 30, 2012 at 4:11pmFunny you should say that, I do live in a right to work state! Working my butt off to change that. I don’t mind right to carry, I think guns are a necessity to maintain the “right of revolution”.
Also, I find it interesting that people think that American communism would be the same as North Korean “communism” or Soviet “communism”. I guess you could say that I believe in American exceptionalism because I think the US could take the principles of workplace democracy and egalitarianism and only improve upon them. Marx said that socialism could only take hold in highly developed industrial/technological economies, so when you look at the pre-communist history of places like Korea and Russia, it only makes sense that those attempts at socialism would falter. The US is highly industrialized and our resources are abundant in comparison to, say, pre-Mao China and that fact gives us a leg-up.
Also, we are far too individualistic to buy into a cult of personality (something I find disgusting about the Democrats love of Obama). Communism is about radical democracy and I think that that aspect of it is what this generation (the generation not polluted with anti-Soviet/anti-left propaganda) needs to be reminded of. It is about extending the right to have your voice heard in the political arena, to the economic arena. The workplace is the last bastion of fascism in this country. Wage slavery is theft!

Posted on May 30, 2012 at 1:02amWhy do unions suck? Unions have fought for a better quality of life for your average American worker for well over a century. What part of the 40 hour work week do you dislike so much? What part about benefits do you dislike so much? What part of giving people a voice on the job don’t you like? Have you read the history of what it was like before the union movement? Have you read about the terrible working conditions that people, sometimes children, were subjected to? Do you think that corporations would hesitate for a second to lower the pay/benefits for their workers to the lowest, cheapest level they can get away with if the union disappeared over night? Unions are the reason we have a middle class and since union busting became the thing to do with Reagan and Thatcher, we’ve seen working class wages decline while productivity and profits for the owning class are at an all time high. It’s okay, though. Unions needed that reality check. My generation knows what side we’re on, and the labor movement is on the rise once again.

Piss off in the reddest manner you can, and remember as you fall asleep on your Alinsky doll that many peeps here and else where remember exactly what those old communist bloc targets looked like as they fell over and were reset.
