Did Cops Beat a Canadian Man to Death for Hugging the Wrong Woman?

A Canadian man visiting relatives on the Caribbean island of Grenada apparently hugged the wrong woman, and local police allegedly beat him to death for that honest mistake.

via Daily Mail

That is the story of Oscar Bartholomew as relayed by the Daily Mail, and officials are calling for an inquiry into what appears to have been a sickening overreaction by police officers on the island of Grenada.

On the day in question, Bartholomew stopped at a police station so that his wife, Dolette Cyr, could use the bathroom. At that point, he allegedly mistook a female plainclothes police officer for a friend of his, snuck up behind her, and lifted her off the ground in what was described as a “bear hug.”

“I got you today,” he yelled.

The female officer immediately began screaming “rape” so other officers would come to her aid.

At that point, witnesses say five other officers rushed towards the incident and began to furiously beat Bartholomew, who resisted with kicks as he went to the ground. The vicious beating put him on a coma as he lay dying on the street.

Two autopsies reported that Bartholomew died of severe trauma to the head. The five police officers have been charged with manslaughter, and if convicted, face 15 years in jail.

Bartholomew’s death has sparked outrage on the tiny Caribbean island as citizens have claimed police brutality is a systemic, commonplace occurrence. An inquiry has been started to investigate Grenadian police brutality over the last several years.

“No, Americans don’t care about genocide in Africa, why would we care about one dead Canadian in Grenada?”

And what makes Africans so special to you? I mean, there are acts of genocide all over the world. I don’t see anybody worrying over that either. Why do you seem to be disturbed because we don’t wring our hands with worry and angst because primitives in Africa kill each other? They’ve been doing that non-stop for 5000 years. Nobody can stop them no matter what is done.

You‘re like the little white brainwashed zombie who got up during a Bill O’Reilly talk at one of the universities and was pitifully lamenting that he‘s outraged the US doesn’t do more about aids in Africa, to which O’Reilly replied: “What do you want me to do, go over there and put a condum on them?”

Why don‘t you go to Africa and place your body between a black murderer and victim if you’re really interested in stopping African genocide? It won’t make a difference, of course, but that would at least show you cared. You wouldn’t be like the rest of us who you chastize for not caring about Africans killing each other.

You‘ve been brainwashed into believing you’re morally superior if you show a preference for Africans in any way, like the moron Bono.

If this African had been beaten by white police in another country, you’d be screaming racism at the top of your lungs, because that’s what you have been programmed to d

      Great question, Alborn49!

This story is important in context with another recent story posted on TheBlaze regarding an L.A. cop that punched an unruly female bus passenger in the face. In that story, the woman was clearly agitated and yelled directly in the face of the police office. The officer responded but rearing back a punching the woman in the face, in what appears to be an act of frustration.

Oddly enough, most Blaze commenters are taking the side of the police! Some justify this because they believe spitting was involved, but spitting is not reported in the story, is not evident in the video, and is not alleged by the police. Regardless, we the people delegate a tremendous amount of power to the police, and as such, they must be held to a equally high standard. It is never okay for a police officer to abuse the authority they are afforded out of frustration or anger.

Individual police officers must be held accountable for abusing their authority. Otherwise, it is likely their abuses will escalate over time, and some day we may begin seeing cases similar to this story here in the USA.

Sorry guys, but … his intentions are irrelevant here. An unidentified man who was hanging around in a police station grabbed (attacked) an undercover officer and started yelling. Put this scenario in any other workplace and you would get the same results. Tragic, but his actions resulted in his demise. This guy belongs on the list of Darwin Award nominees. This guy created the perception of an immenent threat to another officer, the other cops reacted accordingly. Ask yourself how you’d react if a stranger walked up and grabbed one of your kids in your yard and started yelling. I’d like to nominate this guy for a Darwin Award.

That’s a good point T.E. That happens all too often in this country.

In fact, according to the Dept. of Justice’s web site, there are an average of 37,500 black on white rapes per year, but I’ve NEVER, EVER heard of anyone complaining about that. In fact some of these brainwashed zombies will call somebody a racist for just reporting the information and complaining about it.

Well, here’s another stat that will send them into apoplexy: There are so few white on black rapes (less than 10 in any given year) they don’t show up statistically.

What you have to keep in mind is the personality of ANY policeman. They are all bullies, and want to boss and intimate people. Good police departments recognize this and have rules that most of the time prevent it from taking over. However, look at the guy pepper sprayed to death over a 12 hour period in Tampa last month. It is just the nature of the person attracted to that job.

My advise, stay as far away from any and all of them as possible.

Why would a guy, who just happens to stop in a police station, of all places, so his wife could use the restroom, think he sees a friend of his in this police station in a country he was visiting?
Something is wrong with this story.

Yep, and why would a guy try to rape a woman in a police station who just happens to also be a cop?
      Too much ambiguity here.

She screamed rape? What is wrong with her? unless the story is leaving out something about him ripping away her clothes.

But screaming rape or blowing a whistle or claiming to have aids is the prescribed tactic for women dealing with men they don’t know. Just ask Nappy Janet.
