Did Edwards Use $1 Million in Campaign Cash to Cover Up His Affair? We’re About to Find Out

It seems the worst may not be over for former presidential candidate and North Carolina Senator John Edwards. After losing his wife, Elizabeth, to cancer in December, Edwards will now face a legal battle over alleged campaign finance violations. America’s Newsroom has more:

Federal prosecutors have begun preparing to indict former presidential hopeful and South Carolina politician John Edwards on charges that he illegally used $1,000,000 of campaign money to cover up his affair with Rielle Hunter.

Did Edwards Use $1 Million in Campaign Cash to Cover Up His Affair? Were About to Find Out

Just a few years ago, Edwards was a star in the Democratic Party. His humble beginnings, strong views on the importance of family and legal experience earned him immense popularity. Sadly, in the minds of many Americans, these characteristics were nullified once news leaked about his now infamous affair and secret love child.

Edwards was a well-known trial lawyer before delving into politics, so he likely has a sense of the trouble he may be in once the indictment comes his way. But, The Christian Science Monitor explains that complexities surrounding campaign finance law may actually protect Edwards from serving serious time:

…Edwards hasn’t been convicted yet – and if he is indicted, his case may be difficult to prosecute. Campaign funding law is vague, and it is hard to track all the money that flows into and out of a politician’s accounts and tie them to particular actions and purposes.

Where does the law draw the line for a legitimate campaign expense? It may be morally wrong to pay hush money to a mistress, but it probably would enhance a candidate’s electoral chances, so why isn’t that a proper use of donor funds?

Regardless of what happens, this tale isn’t likely to end happily for Edwards. This is yet another setback in the life of a man who was once greatly revered in the American political schema. Watch the clip below for more:

He must feel like a living car wreck-how sad for his kids, what a ruin of potential. Someone’s self inflicted ruin is nothing to cheer about, especially when there are other people hurt. His life is a lesson for all arrogant, foolish poiticians who think they can get away with stuff. Sooner or later the people catch on-we need to clean out most of the fools in Washington.

This is not the most horrible man I have ever heard of, but he’s is in the top 20. He made his career and fortune ruining good doctors and bilking hospitals. I think of him as nothing more than a over rated high priced ambulance chaser. He used the pain associated with a child being born with defects (no fault of the attending doctor or hospital) to sway jurors that had no medical background experience or knowledge to grant enormous monetary awards to the families along with his cut of course. He did this by distorting facts and playing on the jurors sympathy. In all actuality the problem with the children had nothing to do with the care given by the doctors or hospitals. He used the “deep pockets” argument that the doctors and hospitals could afford it. Guess who is paying for all those judgements? You and me, that’s who. The man is truly evil, hiding behind his boyish grin he has managed to dupe judges and jurors. Then the gall to run for the position of President of the United States while his wife was dying of cancer. And if that isn’t bad enough, then having sex with an associate, getting her pregnant while still married. Then there is the issue of all the lies and attempts to cover it up. Then the minupulation of people to cover up his sins. Now it seems he has used the money given to him to run for president to hide his misdeads further. This man is evil, there is no cell dark enough or jail sentence long enough for this sleaze. May God deal with him as he sees fi

Let’s assume Edwards admits he did. He is a Marxist elite and nothing will be done. Slap on the wrist, and no dessert for one night is all he will get.

I can’t watch the news anymore. I watch Glenn Beck to get what is really going on. But for the most part I feel we are being “played” by both sides. Both sides are leading us sheep into the pen and they know there is NOTHING we can do about it….and that’s what sucks!

It will be interesting to see how he is treated versus how Senator John Ensign is being treated. Ensign just tried to find a job for his ex-girlfriends husband and he is being referred for potential prosecution for his ‘ethics’ violation. What a joke when nothing is done to Dodd, Rangle, Waters, Pelosi, etc., etc., etc. Who actually believes there are ethics in DC?

That John Kerry picked him for his running mate should disqualify him from holding any public office.
