Did Feds Just Issue Another Failed EAS Test…Featuring Katy Perry Tune?

“You won’t believe what I just saw,” Blaze editor Jon Seidl said to me earlier this afternoon. Apparently, Seidl had been watching the news networks on DirecTV this afternoon when lo and behold another Emergency Alert System test popped up.

Like the first test nationwide test of the EAS system by the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Emergency Management Association on Nov. 9, this one appeared to be unsuccessful as well, with several technical errors. Currently, it is unconfirmed whether the test was scheduled or a fluke. Neither the FCC or DirecTV had returned messages from The Blaze before the time of this posting.

Seidl said while he was watching Fox News, the alert popped up followed by a message from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. And it wasn’t Lady Gaga Seidl heard singing this time — Gaga’s “Paparazzi” was heard by DirecTV viewers during the first test earlier this month — but Katy Perry singing “California Girls”.

DirecTV users were among the many on Nov. 9 that experienced either a delayed or flawed test. Time Warner subscribers reported not even seeing the test, while some Comcast customers said their TV switch over to QVC. At the time, FEMA acknowledged the glitch and said they were collecting data on the test for analysis.

Ironically, today FEMA is hosting a special event to cover findings and lessons learned of this first nationwide EAS test. Learn more about the meeting or listen into the discussion between industry experts here. (Note: The meeting ends at 3:30 EST.)

We will update this story with more information as it emerges.

Update: FCC official contacted The Blaze and said the alert must have been part of periodic testing that is required for individual participants. The official said it was not part of a nationwide test and that tests on an individual basis happen frequently. The official was not sure what was happening with the message from the sheriff’s department or the Katy Perry song.

      This is NOT a foolish mistake.
      The LA County Sheriff initiated the alert. The U.S. Govt is using Pop Singers while transmitting their portion.

      How alarmed would you be if during the local alert you sudeenly heard or saw a message from the Federal Govt on these?

      This is no Joke. This will be used prior to the election, if Obama feels he is going to lose. Watch for Marshall Law. Suspended elections. And he will declare a “certain portion” of the populace to be enemy combatants, to be arrested and locked away without constitutional rights.

      Conspiracy Theory ? . . . we’ll see

    I’m not clear on the instructions; are we to all go to LA and tune into the media?

    Good thing it was only a test! Hopefully, by the time their “Real Emergency” gets here they will have the bugs ironed out. I know one thing, if they tell me to go east I’m headed west for sure.

    Much like the Grid, water treatment, the computer your reading this on….just another avenue the Chinese can hack and really take control. LOL – imagine, they are attacking and the national EAS is directing everyone to camps/kill zones. As a former gov’t employee, we were advised by IT back in 1999 that the ChiComs has classrooms full of hackers to work over our systems everyday and there was little way of knowing if they had been snooping or not….

    This is not a mystery…EAS tests are tripped by radio stations, There is one radio station in a market that is a primary station, if this is in LA, obviously a POP music station is the primary station.

      I couldn’t agree more. The paradox, though, is that ‘government’ is made up of Americans (as far as we can tell from here) and our neighbors. That means we are living and breathing with total idiots living right next door!

      And while that may be, I have difficulty with that answer. IMHBLO, the real issue is that contractors to the government sympathetic to the socialist movement (as if a government contractor wouldn’t be) and they rob the government (tax payers) at every corner without conscience or consequence. Just like the present administration is doing from the inside, everyday.

      We both know examples. The military industrial complex. Remember the ‘Big Dig’? in Boston? What about the recent monument opened up near the W.H. that was so far from reflective of our nations founding that you’d think you were in another country while taking the tour? Remember Denny Hastert? Made MILLIONS off of his corruption from the tax payer.

      This is most likely a no bid contract that has no sunset or benchmarks that could jeopardize the end goal. And it is a frequently used contractor with no fear of being ejected from the job due to over budget considerations. If I may be so bold, it may be one of obamas crony pay off / bailout companies.

      I believe I have seen about 8 of them since the 9th. Several from the Emergency Weather System. It seems to me the govt is trying to perfect this system as it surely didn’t work on the 9th as it should have. I have Bright House cable in Florida. My certainly hope we get to the elections. Connecting the dots, it is a toss up if we do. I agree with another poster here… nothing weird from the WH is obama is a shoe in. Problem is, he won’t. Drilling a well for a hand pump. got wood and getting chicken wire to have some chickens. Have about 2 months of food. I hope I don’t have to use it for emergency. Things are really crazy. Maybe I need to get a life. (smile) Spend about 2-3 hours a day reading online. TV news is a joke. My twitter is same as my id here. I am impressed with some that are following me, some I wish weren’t. My friends. prepare. I refuse to let Patriot be a 4 letter word.

      Do you think they are not going to tell us before hand because so many actually unplugged every possible means of tracking us? Most people I know did just that. So now it is just going to be random? Allot of people I know even took the batteries out of their cell phones.

    The message was broadcast, so the test was successful. The last 3 ‘duck farts’ sounded but Direct TV failed to return to their regular programming – this was then followed by the rather attractive Katy Perry. In other words, the EAS system worked – but Direct TV was at fault for fumbling the feed.

    Much ado about nothing guys.

    FEMA getting ready for the riots that will occur next summer as a setup to the November elections. Which goes along with the McCain and Lieberman “Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention and Prosecution Act” that would round up any citizen the president feels is a threat (to anything).

      Next summer? Do we have that much time left to prepare? I doubt it. This is a growing cancer NOW and will get more ugly daily. Next summer will be epidemic levels where no one can deny that the nation is out of control. Don’t worry though, normal programing will proceed with General Hospital, game shows, sitcoms and American Idol or whatever crap is captivating the public at the time.

    Regardless of all the crapola,,, the test failed big time. Are you surprised? Remember the switch over for the television antenna mess? After all the hoopla, warm ups and warnings….. the feds had to extend the turn off 8 months and still it did not work properly……

    The government needs to get out of our lives every 5 minutes and things just may work.

    It failed on DirecTV‘s side as well because they don’t get the concept. The EAS signal should break into any content that’s airing or in playback and leave the record buffers alone. That way everyone would be forced to watch the EAS signal and none of it would interrupt recording in progress. I got rid of the test just by switching to a recorded show, something I often do while watching live. I doubt if this system will be bugfree by the time there’s a real emergency.
