When it rains, it pours. Alan Grayson is getting soaked.
We‘ve brought you news today on Alan Grayson’s attack ads, and how those ads may now be backfiring. But now, there is an accusation that his campaign plagiarized a different ad.
Via Ben Smith at Politico:
I sent over the video of Alan Grayson’s “Let it Shine” ad … to adman Jimmy Siegel, who made a (slightly more understated) ad in very much the same style … for Eliot Spitzer in 2006.
He emails back:
Can I sue for plagarism [sic]? Be great if you wrote a column saying that you’re not allowed to shamelessly copy things in other mediums, but for some reason some media consultants have no shame. They should pay me the media buy.
And to add insult to injury, they did a lousy job.
Both ads are below. You decide:
(Old) Spitzer ad:
(Newer) Grayson ad:

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 1:18pmWell eliot spitzer is a PIG and alan grayson is a PROGRESSIVE!!! They were both horrible ads. And when someone like alan grayson a PROGRESSIVE can‘t come up with his own ads and has to steal someone else’s ad like eliot spitzer the PIG than that is shameful in all ways.

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 1:16pmI think it’s a bit of a stretch trying to link these two adverts just because he used the same song, same theme of the little girl and the family background. Sorry, the truth is progressives have no originality because they have no original thoughts. They are only capably of parroting the themes that have worked in the past. By definition progressives have no core principles, they mimic the principles and actions of their “leaders’ who mimic their pointy headed Ivy League professors.

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 1:11pmAs a creative professional I’ve got to agree with Mr. Smith. his commercial is much better. Better timing and imagery that lead to a more organic feel. In trying to personalize his add, Grayson made it look amateur and just low budget. Not a great way to go dude.

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 2:08pmI also noted that Spitzer had the common sense to not be shown on-screen, cavorting with small children – the Greyson ad has a creepy feel to it, the Spitzer ad focuses on the kids, so it resonates with the viewer, the Greyson ad looks like they dug an old family 8mm reel out of the closet that was shot when their creepy uncle got out of rehab and stopped by for a visit.

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 2:25pmI know, Right! Him sliding down the sliding board holding the little girl. That’s fine if your a parent to do, but It’s creeping sharing poorly shot footage of it with the people you want to vote for you.
Same version of the same song. Same visual themes in both videos. The Grayson video just looks eerie and weird. I’m not a fan of law suits, but in the defense of good taste, Sue!

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 1:10pmIt’s not Grayson that did the plagiarizing, but, rather, the advertising agency who put the piece together whether or not Grayson knew of the plagiarism. They may call O’Donnell kookies, but Grayson is a crazy nut job..

And please, please, please, God, may I not be represented by that upright-walking pig 35 days from now.
Amen.
I have said it here before: I will be donating my time in whatever ways I have to to cleanse district 8 of this plague, and restore some dignity to those of us who are informed and care. I humbly ask any of you outside of our district who can donate money to Dan Webster to please do so, as he is badly out-gunned monetarily. Thank you, we’re not all nuts here.

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 1:04pmI live in his district and can’t wait to vote him out and I told him so. He’s not only a commie but an arrogant commie. He said his opponent, Daniel Webster, did not serve in the military so he was not worthy to serve in congress. Helllo! Grayson didn’t serve either!

Posted on September 28, 2010 at 1:13pm“Arrogant Commie” is redundant, but I know the type of personality trait you speak of. In this ad, it is so obvious he is mearly “kissing babies” for votes.
