Did Rick Santorum Really ‘Knock’ Sarah Palin for Not Attending CPAC?

On the first day of her new show on Glennbeck.com, S.E. Cupp is already making news. But the criticism being poured on her first big guest — and grabbing headlines — may not be warranted.

During her inaugural episode of “S.E. Cupp,” the conservative commentator interviewed former GOP Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. In the interview, Cupp asked Santorum about his thoughts regarding Sarah Palin turning down the keynote invitation at the annual CPAC conference. According to Politico, Santorum’s response was a direct shot at the former Alaska governor:

Rick Santorum knocked Sarah Palin’s decision to skip CPAC, saying on Tuesday that she must have “business opportunities” that are keeping her from the annual conservative conference that is a showcase for potential presidential contenders.

“I have a feeling that she has some demands on her time, and a lot of them have financial benefit attached to them,” Santorum told conservative commentator S.E. Cupp, who hosts an online radio show on Glenn Beck’s website.

Santorum added that Palin has “other business opportunities” — implying her paid speeches were the former Alaska governor’s priority.

If you just read that description, the “knocked” theory sounds plausible. But is that really what happened? Not really.

Video of exchange between the two conservatives shows the conversation was about as mean-spirited as a Cupid conference. The Right Scoop describes it like this:

Sounds like to me he wasn’t ‘knocking’ her at all, but suggesting that her missing CPAC was justifiable since she’s so busy and has a large family. If anything it was just an off the cuff answer. I didn’t detect any ill-will, but of course I wasn’t looking for it like [author] Andy Barr.

Santorum is once again working his way into headlines as he considers a 2012 presidential run. He has already gotten an early jump on the 2012 Republican presidential nomination with visits to early primary and caucus states, including New Hampshire, Iowa, and South Carolina. He’s also hired two veteran GOP operatives in Iowa and one in New Hampshire.

And while Palin could soon be an opponent in the race for the GOP nomination, he showered praise on her during a recent conversation with the Associated Press.

“She’s a rock star,” Santorum said of Palin. “She’s a megastar. You can’t look at her and not think that she would have a huge impact on the nomination.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I am sorry folks but many of you are “fair weather fans”. Sarah is the best hope this nation has. If you buy into the garbage about being unelectable than you are playing right into the enemy’s hands. (”She’s got guts, and guts are enough”!) In reality she has much more but the key aspect of her is that she puts up with no liberal newsbites that attack her, her principles, her family and her country. My God, how refreashing is that? Again do your research, this woman is real, not some blow dried RHINO that does the party’s bidding! I will work for her, and promote her to the very best of my ability!

Absolutely MJOLLNIR, Palin has stood up to both the right and the left and that is why the establishment in BOTH parties are terrified of her. They know she will point out the corruption and call out the corrupt, regardless of party, because she has done both in the past. The media knows she will cut the crap go straight to the people and the media can‘t tolerate a politician who doesn’t let them define the issue. She is honest, she was willling to give up power in Alaska in order to get her message out. She is fearless. And they are fearful. If her name gets on the ballot they know she will win, so they are pulling out all the stops to keep her name from ever getting on that ballot.

Palin is riding the gravy train as we ALL would and long to be. She is unqualified to be president, her endorsements only hurt people, and the only races that won, won in spite of her not because of her. She could not even help win a senate seat in her own state. Come on man.

Would you please take a brief look at the Constitution and remind yourself of what qualifies any American to be President? I don’t think that there is a requirement for a law school degree or 30 years living off the tax payors mentioned anywhere in there. I’m not saying Sarah would or should run, but I wonder what qualifies a person to be President. The previous “qualified” don’t seem to have done a whole lot better than the current “qualified” President. He just seems to be continuing on the same path, just accellerated.

See how smart Sarah is. There is NO reason for her to speak there. She is not running for president. Her speaking there would take time away from a potential conservative presidential contender and bring a libral firestorm of bad press to the conference. Besides, presidents do not make 30 million a year, get to go fishing, and get to piss off the left simply by smiling!

Anything we can do to sow strife and ill will regarding good-hearted courageous individuals will enhance our national image and encourage true leaders to stay as far away from public service as humanly possible. Sarah Palin was not required to attend CPAC. She has other things to do that she feels are more important. Why is everyone making the assumption she wants to run. What if she believes her best contribution to conservatism is rallying the troops and raising money. I just lost any respect I ever had for Rick Santorum. No need to drag down others just to get ahead of them.

Moreover, for the last 18 months, she has led the public debate on every national issue and done the heavy political lifting across the entire country almost entirely on her own

Helping lead a conservative insurgency…taking back the House of Representatives, and being close to running for the highest office in the land, all the while taking the surviving the most vicious attacks, day in, day out…

      @GeauxAlready

Gov. Palin didn’t “quit”; she reloaded in order to fight for what is right on a fairer battlefield.
She promised to keep the frivolous anti-Palin law suits away from the Alaskan people ( saving tax money and time) and to be more effective on the stump ( supporting candidates , fundraising, etc)
Sarah Palin was truthful on both accounts!

Who has been leading the charge to put the constitutional limitations on Big Government? Who, along with the TPM, has caused the bulk of the 2010 GOP increases in our Congress?
Governor Palin has endorsed 73 candidates for the US House of Representatives and Senate; state governors and attorney generals. Her success rate is at 71%.
Also 18 out of 20 targets in her Take Back the 20 campaign ; this is a 90% success rate!

In an article Gov. Palin said:
“I said, ‘Enough. Political adversaries and their political friends in the media will not destroy my State, my administration, nor my family. Enough.’ I knew if I didn’t play their game any longer, they could not win. I would not retreat, I would instead reload, and I would fight for what is right from a different plane.”

Gov. Palin resigned because she recognized the cost that the frivolous ethics complaints were having on her state , and she saw how much of her staff’s time and her own time were forced to deal with those issues. She wasn’t able to effectively fulfill her role as Governor, so she passed the reins onto someone who didn’t have to be concerned that if he sneezed in the Lower 48, an ethics complaint would be thrown at him.
Gov. Palin’s entire administration was paralyzed by those frivolous complaints.

She saw that if she stayed on as Governor it would continue to cost the state millions of dollars in wasted time and resources to defend against false and maliciously ethics complaints and doom it to gridlock.

Between the frivolous ethics complaints, 27 in 6 months, and the uncooperative legislature, who had previously worked very well with her, she determined that she could no longer serve Alaskans well.

The ethics complaint investigations had cost Alaskans $2+ million dollars in 6 months. In the 3 weeks between when she announced her resignation and when she stepped down, 3 more complaints came in. At that rate, these systematic complaints would have cost Alaskans $8 million by the end of her term.

She also saw that her family was not personally in debt for $500,000 for 6 months of ethics charges. Again, at that rate, her family would have been in debt $2 million by the end of her term.

She had also fufilled all the campaign promises she made, i.e., ethics reform, budget cutting, earmark cutting, getting the natural gas pipeline off high center through an open, transparent, and competitive process!!

Gov. Palin had to step down for the better of her state and it was the honorable thing to do.
