Did Rush Limbaugh Actually Praise Obama on the OBL Mission?

When Rush Limbaugh opened his show today, he seemed to be heaping praise on President Obama for authorizing the mission that led to the death of Osama bin Laden: “Ladies and gentlemen, we need to open the program today by congratulating President Obama.”
Limbaugh went on to say:
President Obama has continued the Bush policies of keeping a military presence in the Middle East. He did not scrub the mission to get Bin Laden. In fact, it may be that President Obama single-handedly came up with the technique in order to pull this off. You see, the military wanted to go in there and bomb as they always do. They wanted to drop missiles and drop bombs and a number of totally destructive techniques here. But President Obama, perhaps the only qualified member in the room to deal with this, insisted on the Special Forces. No one else thought of that. President Obama. Not a single intelligence adviser, not a single national security adviser, not a single military adviser came up with the idea of using SEAL Team 6 or any Special Forces.
Though the tone of his remarks were sarcastic, various media outlets–from Time and Mediaite, to the Huffington Post and National Journal–all took his words at face value: as actual praise for Obama.
Gawker summed it up:
…listen to the clip up, as he sarcastically stresses the parts about Obama being the only person in the room ever to think of this mission and he should get all the credit. He‘s just pullin’ your leg, people. He hates Barack Obama!
Listen to Limbaugh later in his program:

I didn’t even notice Obama in the picture of the situation room until I saw it a third time. He is like a small spectator. He hasn’t a clue about such matters and depends on the military to tell him what he needs to do. Please people! Sure, let him take the credit but American’s know better.

They must have just thought conservatives were coming around to witness the “truth” that is Obama’s reign.
It would be funny if it weren’t such a sad display of the state of the media considering the number of outlets that ran with it, easily depicting their bias in how quickly they are ready to crown Obama king—they’re just waiting for the right moment, and they think this is it.

No psychologist here;I think that liberals MAY understand conservatives’ jokes, but choose to ignore the humor thus creating an issue. I’m trying to think of a humorous liberal – guess I can’t help with that view.

Posted on May 2, 2011 at 11:30pmCome on Dale, there‘s no need to make this into a partisan thing where one side’s doing the immoral thing. Liberals and conservatives just come at things from different points of view; from one perspective it can be hard to see things from another, and I think people on each side of the political spectrum are often guilty of willfully interpreting actions from the other side in such a way as to paint them in the most negative light possible — but I don‘t believe that’s endemic of any political position.
To wit, I don‘t doubt that you’re being honest when you say that you can’t think of any humorous liberals, but that’s only because liberal senses of humor tend to be markedly different from conservative senses of humor. As someone who works almost exclusively in a university setting, I run around a lot of liberal circles, and it would be impossible for me to say that they lack a sense of humor. Moreover, I’m sure that many of them would say that conservatives lack a sense of humor. (And I don‘t think they’d be correct either.)

As you said there are considerate individuals on both sides, as well as jerks. I don’t know why. I have a problem with those (especially in political power) who push their agenda and refuse to consider the provable negative consequences of their actions. These individuals are primarily on the left/socialis\progressive side, and I find them humorless. I’m sorry if I offended you, that was not the intent.

The main reason the liberals and progressives cannot or will not ever understand ones like Rush and Glenn is that they have lived with telling spin and distortions for so long they do not recognize straight and honest opinions and facts.
To them, the world is similar to the old saying of a paranoid person – “You do not have to be paranoid to have enemies, but it does help.”
In their case it is being the pusheers of an agenda based on falsehood, phantoms and phantasm’s that has them seeing and not understanding the truth as nothing more than another agenda that does not in fact exist, save in their own imagination.

Think about something: if the mission had failed, if US soldiers had been killed and nobody captured and no information gathered, would Rush have blamed anyone but President Obama? Would Rush and you have heaped scorn on the President? Of course.
I think it’s amusing how Republicans are being very careful to not give the President credit, although they would have clamored to praise Bush, like they did when he proclaimed “Mission Accomplished!”
The fact is, Bush shifted his focus to Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with 9-11. The current President refocused on the people that were actually out to kill Americans, which was his campaign promise. He followed through with many more drone attacks on Al Quaida targets and an increased focus of American effort on Afghanistan and Pakistan. And that paid off. He did in two years what Bush failed to do in seven.

Posted on May 2, 2011 at 11:41pmThe CIA developed its theory through leads from individuals in bin Laden’s inner circle and other captured fighters following September 11. Intelligence officials were repeatedly told about one courier working for bin Laden as someone that America’s most wanted man deeply trusted.
The detainees provided U.S. officials the courier’s nickname and identified him as a protégé of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and a trusted assistant of Abu Faraj al-Libbi, once al-Qaida’s third-highest-ranking official. (He was captured in 2005.)
Piece all that together. KSM was captured in Pakistan in 2003. Al Libbi was captured in 2005. Both, and many other captured al Qaeda terrorists, have been held at Gitmo for years, where they have been interrogated, queried, quizzed and waterboarded. And the information they all have dribbled out has been patiently pieced together over years, finally giving US intel a name and an operational picture that was actionable. If we had simply killed them with drone aircraft, or made the decision early on not to find out what they knew, the raid to get Osama bin Laden would never have happened.
“What must be pointed out, the intelligence gather came not under Obama’s watch but Bush’s; surely if left to this regime, no intelligence would ever be gathered; in fact, Obama has shut down such intelligence gather procedures, calling them cruel and unusual punishment. Of great interest, Obama has taken credit for the operation’s success based on intelligence gathered under cruel and unusual punishment, perhaps he should have not used such, standing by his principles. What we see clearly is a man raising his ego level to near bursting, the gain, not security but political rise, a campaign boost to beat all, and the amazing point being, not only his supporters were fooled [obviously] but many conservatives gave credit where no credit was due. Your alert factor should be sending fair warnings, Obama puts out his birth certificate [while it be fake or naught] and then has Bin Laden taken out; surely a red flag goes up; my question is…”What’s next?””

Posted on May 3, 2011 at 12:51amAzDebi, I think I follow you but let me summarize to make sure I’m clear on your opinion. The economy collapsed seven years into Bush’s term, but that was Clinton’s fault. 9-11 took place under Bush’s watch, but that was because of Clinton. Osama Bin Laden was killed 10 years after 9-11, and two years after President Obama took office, but all the credit goes to Bush.
And also, President Obama couldn’t really be President because someone like him, born in another country, doesn’t qualify. And he couldn‘t really have graduated with highest honors from the world’s most prestigious law school but it only looks that way because of a special dispensation as a result of his, uh, lack of qualifications. And he couldn’t really have managed the operation to get Bin Laden because of all those things you mentioned. Obama simply couldn’t have legitimately accomplished all those things. That’s just not possible.
I have stated your position correctly?
