Did Scientists Find ‘Irrefutable Evidence’ of Siberian Yeti?

Group of International Scientists 95 Percent Sure Evidence Supports Yeti in Russia

Is this a yeti?

Tracks — check. Probable den — check. Hair sample — check.

To a group of international scientists, this all of this adds up to “irrefutable evidence of the existence of the Yeti in Mountainous Shoria,” according to a release from the Kemerovo administration (via Huffington Post). The release goes on to say the researchers are 95 percent sure of the existence of a yeti in the Kemerovo region of Siberia, based on the evidence they found.

According to PhysOrg, a group of scientists from the United States, Canada and other countries, set out at the invitation of Kemerovo’s governor to find the yeti and then reconvened to share their evidence and stories:

“They found his footprints, his supposed bed, and various markers with which the yeti marks his territory,” the statement said. The collected “artifacts” will be analysed in a special laboratory, it said.

Yetis, or Abominable Snowmen, are hairy ape-like creatures of popular myth, that are generally held to inhabit the Himalayas.

But some believe Russia also holds a population of yetis, which it calls Snow Men, in remote areas of Siberia.

According to Huffington Post, hair samples found will be analyzed by Russian scientist Anatoly Fokin. But, it goes on to report there are skeptics to the “evidence:”

“This does not seem to be any more than what you hear about from weekend excursions in North America that go out, discovering some hair of undetermined origin, calling it ‘Bigfoot hair,’ then locating some broken branches and piled trees, saying it was made by Bigfoot, and finding footprints that look like Sasquatch tracks,” said Loren Coleman, director of the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine.

“These are not ‘proof’ that would hold up, zoologically,” Coleman told The Huffington Post.

Huffington Post notes that the area, traditionally a mining town, is trying to promote tourism:

[...] let‘s hope they don’t discover a cave that contains a set of recently purchased touristy Yeti beverage mugs.

Ok, just saying in America bigfoot, sasquatch, many names however today with hundreds of yearly sightings most credible people. Stories for such by state, province can be located at bfro . net. Was a group of believers & non-believers science types etc. set out years ago to prove or dis prove this legend. well over the years, photo’s, game trail camera shots, DNA yes they have some strange finds there with hair, scat, etc. foot prints, hand prints, large body casts (skookum valley Washington cast) the dna comes back as a Unknown biped, hair some what related to the orangutan dna family, based on sightings in USA/Canada, we find environmental differences in the body/hair/color some behavior of the sightings descriptions of the creatures, from the mountains of Rocky’s to the low lands of the swamplands, the descriptions given make sense based on the environments. Swampy hot humid, like a large orangutan style body & hair is long and body is more slender is style, in the high mountains more bulky stocky shorter thicker hair for the harsh winters, much jokes have been made that is fine, but even Jane Goodall has stated their is strong evidence for an unknown American biped or ape. Recently they have found in the Congo a 6 foot Chimp, in the 1950‘s the great mountain silver back gorilla’s were thought to by only a myth by the intellectuals, the more we enter the remote wilderness on our ATV’s etc the more sightings etc. interesting. One never know’s. something is out there

As for finding remains. there are many animals that die in the wild, but the scavangers will devour the remains so there is no evidence of that animal dying. Circle of life my frind.

As for Yetis I don’t know. I do know the photo shows no hair on the eyes and nose, I see a man in a hairy suit! and if you spend enough time in woulds hunting you find the carcasses of all kinds of animals, with so many looking it should have been found by now.

Unfortunately there is very little left undiscovered on this Earth, well at least that is larger than a field mouse or under the waves. The sad fact is if they did exist, capturing or killing one of these is the same as hitting the lottery.
But on a side note, I believe the yeti has some close relatives hanging out around Wall Street.

I hunt elk very close to where the Skookum cast was made and last season I heard two soundings and a wood-knock. I’m a reasonable guy but I have never heard those sounds before. If anyone is 100% sure they don’t have a shred of doubt, read up on Wa bigfoot sightings and I’ll drop you off in the canyon for a few days. We’ll see how you feel when you walk out…

Unfortunately their longevity is going to be short lived, for man in all his wisdom has seen fit to reintroduce into his (Bigfoots) environment a genetic mutant of his age old enemy.
These massive wolves are not the native wolf that lived in our area 100 years ago. There was a reason these things where exterminated nationwide. They sure do look cuddly and cute. I wonder if our city dwelling tree hugger society that never has left a city really understands the impact of these killing machines.
p.s. it’s just a matter of time before one of our granola loving green peace hikers goes out on a hike and runs into a pack of these killers and becomes part of the food chain. If you are going into the Blues, Cascades, or up above Spokane hiking, game scouting, mushroom hunting, or something else you better start carrying a side arm. Can you even imagine being out by yourself and having 8 to 12 of these monsters surround you! Think about what kind of appetite a dozen of these must have and remember they are the only predator in our nation that kills for fun along with for food.

The amount of animals they take are just a partial portion of what they need to eat. When elk are calving they will kill the calves just for fun after they have had all they can eat and leave the rest to rot.

ZEB, not understanding how wolves have anything to do with bigfoot….and I think you have watched way to many movies. Wolves don’t attack and eat humans, unless they are rabid. The also don’t kill for sport like humans do…that is our distinction. And they are not huge monsters….rather they are the size of a big dog, much smaller by weight than a mountain lion or a bear. So unless they have brought back Dire Wolves (which I doubt very seriously), I think were OK to go into the woods.

Predators are a necessary part of the ecosystem…they cull out the weak, sick and old prey animals, making them stronger. The fact that we think we can manage it is ridiculous. We “manage” to bring to the brink of extinction nearly all species of animal on the planet, and we should worry about a few wolves? God gave us dominion over all the animals and plants on the planet, but not to destroy them. I am a conservative tree hugger that has a wolfdog for a family pet. They are the most amazing animals and are to be respected, not exterminated. If I had my choice of coming face to face with a lion, a bear or a wolf….I would take my chances with the wolf.

Now as far as bigfoot goes, it is probably Gigantopithecus blacki. That is a great ape thought to be extinct that is similar to a gorilla except that it is much larger, at over 1/2 a ton in weight. Being larger than a polar bear, I would think a wolf would rather tangle with anything else but that. Even a Dire Wolf would think twi

Just ask some of the service men who have been posted at Area 51 for any length of time. They will attest to the fact of the Sasquatch’s existence. I have seen the infrared video from late at night. It is striking watching whole families of these beasties just strolling across the flat land. It is as if they know there are no humans there and they will not be disturbed.

@ Wolf359: His point re: Bigfoot is that these wolves will hunt the sporadic species to its final extinction. The wolves that are being reintroduced are a larger sub-species, so he is correct in his assertions.
Humans are a part of nature, the only difference is we have developed the intelligence to understand what “extinction” means and have chosen to try to preserve species for emotional reasons. All animals will hunt their prey to extinction, it doesn’t matter if you are talking about wolves or deer. The “balance” in nature is a pendulum swing. If you actually had knowledge about wolves in the wild, you would already know that.
The myth that wolves don’t attack people is just that – a myth. There are plenty of confirmed reports of wolf pack attacks since these were “re-introduced”. Wolves are not smarter or more noble than the domesticated dog, it’s actually the other way around. Domestication means something genetically. You don‘t take a wild wolf pup and raise it to be domesticated and it’s a crap shoot when people breed the two species – the more domesticated hybrid goes to homes and even then its iffy.
The notion that only humans kill just for sport is also a myth. Dogs, wolves, apes, dolphins, etc. all kill for sport and murder members of their own species for no particular reason. Every behavior you see in humans is seen in other animals. We just like to ignore it now and pretend we’re “unnatural”.

I am still a little skeptic, however if this information can be proven it would be pretty cool. Obviously the creature (if it exist) hasn’t killed any humans that they know of,… so leave it be. If it does actually exist some idiot will kill it to put a feather in their cap. I live in an area where supposedly we have a “big Foot” People have recordings of strange howls and some have claimed to have seen it. I think that it is a cougar. Although we are not in an area where cougars are supposed to be, I have seen one on two occassions. There are several people that have had them as pets. No one is fessing up, but all of a sudden these animals can not be accounted for. Leave it to man to be irresponsible and try to make pets out of wild animals that should never be allowed to be owned . As far as our big foot goes, I don’t believe it. Still it would be exciting to know that such a creature would be possible.

      @ Eliasm
I am certain that you are refering to Genesis 1:28. Here it is in KJV (CAPS are mine):
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be FRUITFUL, and MULTIPLY, and REPLENISH the earth, and SUBDUE it: and have DOMINION OVER the fish of the sea, and OVER the fowl of the air, and OVER every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

The common concept is humanity’s “dominion” over the earth for the benefit of humanity. This is consistent with the traditional Judeo-Christian concept of a Creator God who exercises dominion over the universe and who “delegates” some of that dominion to his children. The interpretation that you present is more consistent with Eastern religions (including Gnostic Christianity) which see the physical world as inherently corrupt (as opposed to a glorious creation).

Next you’ll need to bang on some bongos (its a common Yeti calling technique). If the Yeti doesn’t respond to the bongos, don’t be discouraged. There‘s still a strong chance that he’ll be lured in by the promise of weed and $16 a pound salmon and cream cheese.
