Did First Lady Michelle Obama Violate Illinois Election Law?

First Lady Michelle Obama stopped in at the Martin Luther King Center on Chicago’s south side Thursday to cast her early vote for the upcoming November midterm elections. But reports from the scene suggest Mrs. Obama may have engaged in political discussion at the polling place — a big no-no according to state election law.
According to a flash story on the Drudge Report, Mrs. Obama finished casting her ballot and stopped to take pictures with residents. It was at this time that electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, says the First Lady inappropriately lobbied for support of her husband’s administration.
“She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband’s agenda going,” Campbell said.
Drudge also points to another witness — a pool reporter — who says the entire conversation took place inside the voting center near the booths.
Illinois state law — Sec. 17-29 (a) — states: “No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place, within 100 feet of any polling place.”
Responding to the report Thursday afternoon, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs reportedly defended the First Lady’s actions. “I don’t think it would be much to imagine, the First Lady might support her husband’s agenda,” Gibbs said.

But I can’t fathom why people like this can keep on lying to the people, lying to themselves, lying about everything and look at themselves in the mirror, or sleep at night! How can it just not eat their souls up?
For me, small, simple lies… even told to myself tear at my own soul. I can’t imagine the immense pain these people feel! Now I understand why we should pity them. Obviously in denial. They must be in denial… because to face the truth of what they’ve done… they’d have to face themselves in the mirror. Which is not an easy thing to do. But unfortunately it is something we all have to do at some point.
I honestly have to stop dropping by The Blaze so much. Glenn is right. We ARE all feeding off this negativity. All we want (as the people) is to have a voice again! I think were all fighting so hard to just be heard! Were tired, and frustrated… but that just feeds into their anger and hate. Its a wicked web we weave when those who’ve we trusted, practice to deceive!
I just can’t understand these people. I know I am not perfect. I have a whole landslide of my own particular faults. But I just don’t understand at all how these people can breath the same air I am, yet see everything so very differently.
American’s are hurting… God, please help us! Please help us to live simpler lives. To be better people. To react to hate, with love. To give of ourselves unconditionally to our family’s. Please help us to see that we can be the people we want to be!
I love the premise behind The Blaze but I visit here every time I sit down to the PC. And it’s like a train wreck… I cannot look away! But it is a NECESSITY, so that those who are lost in the dark can find the light of truth. We need it.
I admit, I am fundamentally hurting because of what these people are trying to do. How can they? How can they forsake all those lives, the blood, the tears, the years of pain and suffering that had to occur to get us here… for our freedoms… only to be given so easily to evil. Have we really come this far, only to lose it all?
I pray that this is our great awakening. I see it so clearly now. As if it were night verse’s day! Just one chapter in the bible has taught me the one truth that made it all fall into place for me. And it wasn’t until I could see the evil through all the lies that I actually believed it!
The only faith that I have left… resides with God our Heavenly Father… Our Creator… and Our Savior. So, I will not just try to live my life better, I will have to live my life better. It‘s not that it’s a choice any longer. I HAVE TO… Because I KNOW the truth.
… and please do not fall into the trap that I have… with engulfing yourself in this madness. As I have these past weeks. There is no sense in it. Fight the good fight in a way you can affect people… By being the person you want to be and are!

Posted on October 14, 2010 at 6:27pmIf it is provable she deliberately did this, then yet fine her in accordance to the law, unless some form of diplomatic immunity also applies to all the white house members – which I believe it does – in which case they still should be fined and impeached or fired (dependant on position.)
I will, until proven otherwise, give the benefit of the doubt as her husband is indeed the President of the United States. (At least until 2012, then hopefully he will be retired by the people at the elections)

I guess then it would only be unlawful for a person who we couldn’t imagine doing it. Which means every special interest group out there needs to set up a booth in every polling place and hard-sell voters for their candidates and issues. Because I could “imagine” they support their own agendas. Right?
What ever happened to leading by example rather than using your position as an excuse for not having to abide by any of those annoying laws that just were set up to control people outside of the regime’s inner circle?

This is just another example of thier entitlement mentality. They are able to do what they want, when they want, however they want. The laws of the land don’t matter to them. The Constitution doesn’t matter. REMEMBER NOVEMBER!!! VOTE! Our country can NOT continue on this path and survive! We need to take our country back from those that want to “fundamentally change” it!!!

Since 1871 the federal government has been a corporation, no presidents just CEO’s, that corporation is owned by a foreign entity, same one owns our monetary system, Fed Reserve, IRS etc. They have their own rule book not the Constitution and they do not listen because they do not work for us. Any private citizen who willfully states a political opinion within 100 feet of a polling place should prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and, in my opinion, imprisoned. This is so like Obama and his ilk to flagrantly and egregiously thumb their nose at THE LAW by making a political statement, according to a witness, within 100 feet of a polling booth. The worst thing is that if she were Muslim it would all be fine an dandy in the world we live in but if she were some anonymous, generic white person, she’d be in prison now.

If you fail to adhere to the laws, then you are saying you supersede the law and are above it. That you are an exception. At least that‘s what it’s called when you aren’t being called a criminal. The least I’d like to see is a fine against her for her action. Everyone else in IL can keep to that simple law, so can she.
Actually, if I was the person she talked to, I’d say “Thank you, just for you breaking the law, I’ll be sure to vote entirely against your husband.” (even if i was a democrat)” Maybe I would stay out at 101 ft. for a while and denounce her and her actions. Cause and Effect. =)

The reason this isn’t covered more in the “lame stream media” is because more responsible journalism takes place there. When an election official present at the location, and original source of the story (see link) both say she didn’t break the law, responsible journalists don’t run big headlines like Drudge did saying she did break the law. Do you see the difference? One tries to get to the bottom of the story, the other counts on people like you who will believe anything, provided it casts the first lady in a bad light.
