Did the NYPD Rough Up ‘Days of Rage’ Wall Street Protestors? Here’s the Video

The “Days of Rage” occupation of Wall Street in New York City has been underway for five days, and new videos show a series of arrests were made this week by the NYPD. Now, those videos and what they show are sparking a debate regarding how both the protesters and the police reacted. Did the NYPD Rough Up Days of Rage Occupation of Wall Street Protestors?

At the heart of the largest stand-off were tarps erected by protestors due to rainfall in downtown Manhattan. NYPD officers informed the protestors the tarps constituted illegal structures, and gave the protestors five minutes to bring them down.

An on-site legal adviser for the protestors agreed with the cops that tarps tied to surrounding trees were in fact a violation of law, according to the activism site suite101.

Apparently, the protestors then held a meeting and determined that some of them would engage in civil disobedience and refuse to comply with the NYPD’s request to bring down the illegal structures.

Arrests ensued amidst accusations of rough police treatment leveled by the surrounding protestors. There have been at least seven arrests since the protests began, most of which occurred over the tarp dispute.Did the NYPD Rough Up Days of Rage Occupation of Wall Street Protestors?

As shown in the videos, the instant the NYPD began to effect an arrest, protestors swarmed, yelled insults, and tried to complicate and block law enforcement from doing their jobs. This created a dangerous atmosphere for protestors, police, and passerby.

Based on initial reporting and the videos, it appears protestors intended to exacerbate the situation, yelled and attempted to interfere.

For example, those who were being arrested complained loudly about their treatment despite continuing to resist arrest.

One protestor claimed his plastic cuffs were too tight, and the video showed one of his fingers bleeding. An NYPD officer can be heard saying that medical attention for the protestor was on the way.

Another protestor screamed ” I can’t breathe” multiple times.

Police also dragged several protestors to the curb. But while that makes for compelling footage, the reality is simple: if police can’t drag a suspect, any fleeing felon could lie on the ground and just refuse to move.

The entire law enforcement system is premised upon the threat — and use — of force. Some of the “Days of Rage” protestors Tuesday may have found that out the hard way.

The Blaze will bring you more information soon on the protestor arrests and the status of the ‘Days of Rage’ Wall Street occupation (still not actually on Wall Street).

In the mean time, watch the arrest videos posted to Youtube and decide for yourself about the NYPD’s actions:

Here is an additional arrest of a protestor who repeatedly used a megaphone without a permit:

I’ve been following this since the very first day and they are down to about 150 protesters and they are losing hope. Good!
However, they have been getting some air-time on MSNBC over the last two days and they are no saying if they can just hold out until, this weekedn that many thousands are on there way right now to join them in NYC. The cops should shut this down now before it accidentally grows and actually turns into something. They have also put out the word to people like fat-pig M. Moore to come and say a few words fo encouragement.

How soon we forget , days after 9-11 and the HERO’S that risk life and limb to protect us are being completely disrespected. I have followed the live feed (when it is working) and watched these“ragers” try and catch the NYPD doing something wrong.
Between the feed from NY they cut away to videos of violent protests from around the world while chatters spew a combination of police brutality slurs and asking for people to donate cameras, vegan food, pizzas and money.
When I asked what they are trying to accomplish they have no idea but insist they want a peaceful protest. They have yet to occupy anything besides sleeping bags. NYPD are HERO’S and deserve respect, they should not be used as tools.

@weeeDontNeeedNoSteeenkinBadges…what we do not need is anarchist like you. After watching the videos above, I don’t see anything wrong with what the police did. Instead, I saw a bunch of young adults acting like two-year olds. While our Constitution allows for the right of the people to petition their government, it does not allow for anyone to be disruptive or anarchist. This was not an act of tyranny, it was soceity putting a stop to an attempt to disrupt and incite violence.

The police state you condemn as tyrannical oppression is actually law and order. The police were not going to allow this to escalate into another Battle in Seattle, where the damage to commercial businesses from vandalism and lost sales has been estimated at $20 million. Further the city lost more than $3,000,000 in overtime, cleanup and damages to the city.

I despise them as much as you do, but I would not advocate using more force than is necessary to restrain the individuals. Although they are idiots, they have rights as well. They were in violation of the law which then gives the police the right of arrest. If the police go overboard and use obvious excessive force, then they should also be held accountable. An example of that would be beating a restrained suspect.
My personal opinion regarding the case of Rodney King, I did not find that the police used excessive force as King repeatedly disregarded the officers orders to remain on the ground. He had a choice to comply or not. If you choose not to comply, force will be used until you do so. Such is the case of Rodney King.

Simply put the majority of us HATE leftist unions – there is a fine line between anarchy and civility. A right to peaceful assembly is guaranteed. As long as the rights of other civil citizens aren’t violated these “people” could have protested. In the real world you do need permits to gather in rider for not only the safety of others but the protestors as well. I worked the Tompkins Sq riots, the Crown Heights Riots, Ernest Sayon riots, and it’s always the same loser protestors. I applaud Free Speech, but it’s not absolute. You want your rights upheld?
