Did the Queen of England Just Make Her First Movie Appearance With James Bond?

How else might you expect the Queen of England to arrive to the 2012 Olympic Games’s Opening Ceremonies hosted in London if she were doing so with James Bond? Perhaps you might imagine a swanky vehicle with a martini in hand, but with Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle (think “Slumdog Millionaire”) coordinating the opening ceremonies, that might not be daring enough.

A short flick starts in the palace with Mr. Bond — played by the current Bond character in Hollywood Daniel Craig — waiting on Queen Elizabeth II as she finishes her letters. The two are then seen exiting the palace to a waiting chopper. Rather than spoil the fun of how the queen actually descends upon the opening ceremonies, in case you haven’t seen the event live on NBC or the BBC, watch the clip for yourself (Note: Spoiler after the video):

Of course, Queen Elizabeth II herself did not really parachute down — nor did Craig — still as Yahoo! Sports points out this is believed to be the first movie appearance by the queen. Stunt doubles took the place of the actor and the 86-year-old monarch.

Boyle hinted at the “head of state’s“ arrival as being a ”key part of the show” to Meredith Viera from NBC’s Today.

I lived in London during the early 70′s. I knew many people who did not like the idea of “royalty”, but most did.

I like tradition, heritage, and stability, that is what most monarchies maintain. Of course, there are and have been some monarchies that have been cruel – even monarchies in Britain.

    As far as Elizabeth Alexandra Mary;

Her Majesty’s a pretty nice girl,
but she doesn’t have a lot to say
Her Majesty’s a pretty nice girl
but she changes from day to day

I want to tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a belly full of wine
Her Majesty’s a pretty nice girl
Someday I’m going to make her mine, oh yeah,
Someday I’m going to make her mine.

All those on here who think the Queen has no influence clearly haven‘t read her father’s biography – who was the last monarch about whom we have any such details. She doesn’t have control (of course) but she certainly has influence. You may not like the ‘idea’ of monarchy but, as a constitutional monarchy it has the benefit of keeping the Head of State out of politics, providing a focus for the whole nation and a (limited) form of control on Prime Minsters of the day. In fact when you look at all the current Presidents of Republics you can easily see that Constitutional Monarchy is the best form of national government.

I do admit, 007 and Queen Liz were pretty entertaining, and yes, even Mr. Bean slicing and dicing Chariots of Fire was amusing. It’s British humor, kids…. laugh. The NHS gushfest, yawn….. although, from a production POV, they did choreograph the music to the action fairly well.

So they have to make it clear that it REALLY WASN’T the Queen jumping from the helicopter? Then why didn’t they say a hundred times, “don’t try this at home” The media (of all types) seems to relish in their perception of the ignorance of all their readers.

Since the Franky Roosevelt drove the United Kingdom‘s economic and global powers into the ground in the 1930’s and the Brits became Subjects of the State, James Bond has been the only bright spot the country can point to!

But where is Roger Moore when you need a real Bond!

The queen is the true wealth of the British empire and the empire still exists. Most do not realize this as the queen keeps a low profile and works behind the scenes when her interests are to be acted upon. THe queen still controls many gov.s around the world. Google the truth.

If you actually believe that you are barking mad. If the Queen controlled Canada she would run it a heck of a lot better than the money-grubbing twits who run it now.

Prosecute is a little bit right.

Her Majesty is also the Queen of New Zealand, and is represented by the Governor-General. She does not exercise any control in our affairs as such, but any law passed must receive the “Royal Assent”. She does have the power to dissolve parliament, though this has never been used in this country, and is meant as a protection against illegal government action.

This was once infamously used in Australia some decades ago to sack the Whitlam Labour government. This was not the action of Her Majesty, but of a partisan Governor General who was drawn into political intrigue. Technically speaking, his action was not illegal, but it left a sour taste in Australians mouths and is clearly remembered to this day.

There has always been a movement in New Zealand and Australia to replace the Queen as the head of our governments, but it never seems to gain sufficient traction.

Few realize the Queen is the richest person in the world and holds more land than anyone something like 14 million acres in the world. She still controls and can veto any voted on law in many countries from behind the curtain. She prefers to work from behind the curtain so the public does not know who the real power is in the world. If you doubt this just google or youtube the truth. For example she controls Canada from behind the scenes.

      @ Puddle duck

In fact she does have constitutional power, but she considers her role to “advise and warn” her governments.

Considering that she has been the reigning monarch since 1953, her knowledge of politics and world affairs is immense, and though I don’t know how often she is directly consulted by her prime ministers (other than the United Kingdom), it represents a potentially enormous reservoir of sage advice.

      @ Prosecute

Actually she is not the richest person in the world. Almost all of the royal assets (land, art, jewels, etc) are held in trust by her British government. They take all of the income generated from these assets and pay her an annual amount. This is known as the “Civil List”.

The amount that the Royal Family receives is far less than the income generated by her estates and assets. No-one really knows how wealthy the Queen really is, but she certainly isn’t the wealthiest person in the world.

It is a long and complicated story and I confess that I don’t know all of it. I do know that nations of the “Commonwealth”, as we are known, derive great benefit in a variety of areas from our inclusion.

Have just watched a segment of the opening Olympics (which we hope are a safety and financial success ) and the reaction in our household ranges between : bizarre and pathetic ! What a cinematic mess : so many people, doing so much , which cost so much for .. what ???? The effect ? What an expensive mess. Crazy mess. This experience was a classic proof that less is more. This was more to the max…

      I’m piling on too, Bikki.

Casting Daniel Craig was a masterstroke. Bond is played as Ian Fleming meant him to be – a self-controlled psycopath. Connery played him the same way.

All those in between were a disappointment to a greater or lesser degree.
