Did This Fan Really Catch a Foul Ball in His Beer?

During a game between the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres Tuesday night, right fielder Will Venable hit a foul ball into the bleachers and, apparently, right into a Padres fan’s beer.
The happy fan celebrated his lucky catch by drinking his beer with the ball still in the cup (which, although kinda’ gross, is definitely something we would do).
Watch the catch-n’-chug (via MLB):
Although we don’t want to rain on this fan’s parade, we can’t help but point out that after watching the clip over and over, we can’t tell if the ball actually landed in his cup.
Judging by the crowd’s reaction, we‘ll go ahead and assume it’s authentic.
The only thing we can tell from this camera angle is that we have no idea what’s going on.
Play-by-play men Dick Enberg and Mark Grant were convinced of the fan’s good luck and they gave him high marks for the chugathon.
And you know what? It turns out that even with a poor start to their season, some Padres fans are still having a good time on account of the occasional foul ball. Take, for instance, this broken-armed Padres fan who performs a beautiful one-armed catch (via MLB):
But let’s go back to the first clip. Let’s assume the ball landed in the fan’s cup. If you thought that was cool, then you’ll dig this:
Or this:
The “foul ball moment” really is one of those things that makes baseball especially exciting. Think about it: what other major league sport transforms spectators into participants by demanding they make a split-second decision, the result of which may earn the approval or scorn of an entire stadium?
You can be a hero:
Or you can be a villain:
Whoa. That is one unhappy mother. Heck, you can even be like this couple The Blaze wrote about earlier:
Or you can be like this dad who dropped his daughter:
Or you can be an endless source of amusement:
The outcome to having a foul ball come your way really depends on how you react to sudden and surprising situations: you can either prove to the world that catching a ball with a broken arm is no big deal or you can spend the rest of your evening explaining to your wife why you dropped the baby.
Either way, the whole thing is pretty exciting.

Posted on May 11, 2012 at 12:36pmWho cares. It’s sad to see, when the country is being destroyed by Obama and his administration, people are more interested to see such trivial things instead of working together to throw Obama and other democrap rascals out in 2012. Come on people, wake up. Our country is heading towards point of no return. We need to correct this NOW.

Posted on May 10, 2012 at 3:14pmcan’t say for sure but it looks as if his beer was on the ground and maybe the ball bounced into or off one of the seats into it.

Posted on May 10, 2012 at 11:59amIn 1996, at an Atlanta Braves/Houston Astros game, a man three rows below me caught a homerun ball in his beer cup. Not only did the beer splash everyone around him, including some of us three rows away, but the plastic cup was destroyed as well. I don’t see how he caught it and still have beer in there.

Posted on May 10, 2012 at 11:39amFor all those folks out there who believe he caught it in his cup. I have a few acres of beach front property down in Florida I will sell extremely cheap. It has a little water on it, however, if you use your imagination as in the cup catch, I’m sure you can figure a way to get rid of the water also.

Posted on May 10, 2012 at 3:45amI hate to disappoint him but there is no way that he caught the ball in his beer. You drop a ball from 12 inches into that cup and that cup would only be half full, much less it being filled to the brim in the picture. There would have only been a couple of ounces of beer at the most, also I seriously doubt that the PLASTIC cup is indestructible. Apparently everyone thinking that he caught that ball in the cup would have to be gullible to believe obama when he speaks. Physically IMPOSSIBLE!!! Even people there have to try and cheat just to get a little attention.

Posted on May 10, 2012 at 5:28amI agree and thought the same thing before I even saw the video. I wonder how he feels knowing he chugged that beer with his pinkie up – and millions watched. lol

Posted on May 10, 2012 at 11:32amHowever, from the pics on the blaze article, the ball is still in the beer, which would cause the beer level to rise to the brim perfectly, in order to compensate for the buoyancy of the ball. If the ball is removed, I would bet that there would only be about a 3rd of the beer left.
Pretty awesome if you ask me!
