LONDON (The Blaze/AP) — Olympic officials on Monday sharply criticized a man arrested for throwing a plastic bottle on the Olympic track before Sunday‘s men’s 100-meter final, but competitors said the unpleasant incident did not affect the showcase event.
Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London organizing committee, said there would be “zero tolerance” for anti-social behavior.
“Throwing a bottle on to the field of play is unacceptable, it’s not just unacceptable at an Olympics Games but at any sporting event and anybody who does that will be removed,” he said.
Officials said the incident had no impact on the race itself.
London police say they have arrested the man, who has not been identified or charged. The suspect was being held Monday morning at a police station in east London on suspicion of causing a public nuisance.
The suspect was reportedly hit by a Dutch judo champion after he threw the bottle on the track moments before the start of the 100-meter final.

Edith Bosch, the judo champion, told Dutch television reporters she acted out of disappointment and anger. She said she had seen the man acting in an unusual way before he threw the bottle.
“I had seen the man walking around earlier and said to people around me that he was a peculiar bloke,” she said. “Then he threw that bottle and in my emotion I hit him on the back with the flat of my hand.”
Bosch won a silver medal in Athens in 2004 and a bronze medal at this year’s games.
Coe said there was some “poetic justice” in the fact that the suspect happened to be sitting next to an accomplished judo star.
He cautioned, however, that he was not suggesting a vigilante response.
Police said the man had shouted abuse before hurling the bottle just before the race began.
Usain Bolt, the Jamaican sprinter who won the race, said he was unaware of the incident, but U.S. sprinter Justin Gatlin, who won the bronze medal, said he had been a bit distracted when the bottle was thrown.
“But when you‘re in those blocks and the whole stadium’s quiet you can hear a pin drop,” he said, adding that he did not think the race had been affected.

The Dutch judo champion Edith Bosch should be charged with assault as well. In martial arts, your hands are considered a deadly weapon, and are only to be used in sanctioned competitions and self defense.
Edith Bosch used her deadly weapon to hit a guy who threw a bottle. She was not in danger. She was not defending herself. She should be in a cell right next to the jerk who threw the bottle. She should have let security take care of the bottle thrower.
Edith Bosch, we all get disappointed and angry with our fellow man, but we don’t go around punching them.

Posted on August 6, 2012 at 9:51amThe Olympics are (where) meant to have honor for the sports, Countries, and individual athletes for a short two weeks every four years. They where never meant for any sort of political agenda, and all differences put aside for the duration of the games. Not anymore. Heck, the U.S. teams don‘t have many of the ’truly best’ people on them. Now the only road to the Olympics is for those who (outside of talent) have the rich mommy, daddy, or sponsors that can get them to (and pay for) all the matches they have to have points at prior to even being looked at. After that it’s all about if “you are Nike material”. You’re thinking “White” “Carrot Top” being promotable?? You bet he is, with the perfect mix of LA Surfer / Hip Hop attitude, and Red Bull pays him more than Nike even has in their company. Notice how Phelps was dropped like yesterdays news after one poor choice, but we have a President who celebrated that “choice” and America says “Oh, he was just young back then”. It’s all about being “Nike material” in this Country.

Posted on August 6, 2012 at 9:41amSo watch another sport. There are plenty of sports showcased in the Olympics that do not let professional athletes participate. Basketball shouldn’t be in Olympics anyway in my opinion, but because it is I simply don’t watch it. Swimming, diving, rowing, archery, and most other sports are as pure they are supposed to be. Of course you have to ignore competitors who throw matches to get a better draw in the next round.
Olympic cynicism is ridiculous. Watch it and enjoy it. It’s usually competition as its best, plus it provides us with another reason to be patriots and route for the good ol’ USA. If all you watch the Olympics for is basketball, maybe I should let you know that our professional league plays an extended season here every year.
