Diplomats: Iran Seeks Seat on UN Nuke Agency Board

(AP) — Diplomats say Iran is seeking a seat on the decision-making board of the same U.N. nuclear agency probing its activities for evidence that Tehran may be interested in making atomic weapons.

Iran has sought such a position previously but has always withdrawn its candidates well before the 151 members of the International Atomic Energy Agency vote on new board members.

Diplomats and officials, however told The Associated Press just hours before the vote Thursday that Iran’s hat remained in the ring. They asked for anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

Iran insists it does not seek atomic weapons but it has been under IAEA investigation since revelations of secret nuclear activities eight years ago. Iran is under four sets of U.N. Security Council sanctions for its nuclear actions.

If they even think about doing this the USA should pull from the UN immediately! I know under O‘s administration he won’t do a thing. This guy would throw his wife in front a mugger and then run…spineless coward!

If that weasel wants some nuclear experience I figure about 15 megatons in an air burst over Tehran would be about right.

get rid of this UN scam! it’s always been useless, WILL always be useless. maybe Iran can host it next?

the US needs to concentrate on the US, and not on giving OUR EARNINGS to people in OTHER COUNTRIES. PEOPLE WHO DID NOT EARN ANYTHING.

Why not…why shouldn’t they have a seat on the UN nuke agency board? Look at all those on the UN watch for human rights violations. The UN is a joke. The bigger joke is that it remains on US soil.

If they get on this board it will be the last straw. All pretense that this is useful organization will be lost. If this happens i think the US should ask them to move to another country so that they will no longer be a drain on our economy since they don’t actually do anything.

I have been of the opinion for some time now that we should just leave the UN and kick them out of turtle bay. And start a new organization comprised only of democracies and republics. The criteria for membership in this organization would only be that you must have a representative, or at lease, parliamentary form of government where the people vote in free elections via secret ballot. In addition for membership, a nation must abandon the UN.It has never made any sense to me that we would be yoked with despotic regimes.

If the last straw was not broke by the UN years ago, I am not really sure that this will make much difference. This is an Overton window the UN will become far worse and then a new world group will be there that is so much “better” to take its place it will just need a little money some small tax and that is how it will start:) The only question is not if but when and if we will fight it or just go gentle into that dark night.

I’m sure they do and the UN will accomodate them.
