‘Disappointed’: NBC Censored Tribute to Terrorism Victims Out of Olympic Opening Ceremony

If you watched the Olympic Opening Ceremonies on NBC Friday, you probably caught a lengthy and rather awkward interview between Ryan Seacrest and Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps that seemed just a little out of place. Well, it turns out, it was. Apparently, for unspecified reasons, NBC decided not to air a portion of the opening ceremonies that paid tribute to the 7/7 terrorist attacks in London that claimed 52 victims.
Deadspin has the story and video of the missing chunk:
The song and accompanying dance were a tribute to the victims of the 7/7 terror attacks in London that claimed 52 victims days after the 2012 Summer Olympic hosts were named.[...]
Regardless, it was a rather significant and emotional moment in the opening ceremony, coming just before the parade of nations—and it wasn’t aired in the United States. Instead, viewers were treated to a lengthy and meaningless Ryan Seacrest interview of Michael Phelps. NBC regularly excises small portions of the opening ceremony to make room for commercials, but we’ve never heard of them censoring out an entire performance—especially to air an inane interview.
“I am disappointed,” said Londoner Akram Khan, who choreographed and danced in the segment. “I am really sad that I couldn’t show the work in America, and that really upsets me, because I don‘t think it’s any more or less than the other pieces. It brings to mind the question … that maybe it’s too truthful.”
But NBC says it had no indication that the segment was a reference to the terrorist attacks.
“Our program is tailored for the U.S. television audience,” said NBC Sports spokesman Greg Hughes. “It’s a credit to (ceremony director) Danny Boyle that it required so little editing.”
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

So you‘re cutting interviews and commercials in and you don’t know what you’re cutting out? So they’re incompetent. Or they are lying. Neither sits well.

Posted on July 29, 2012 at 12:38pmWhat type of filth would do this? Who made this call? Whoever it is, I‘m sure they’ll make a short statement that it wasn’t their intent to blah blah blah, and enough of the remaining NBC viewers will either believe it, or smirk and walk side-by-side in the belief that we need to be sheltered from certain truths. Either way, my TV will NEVER return to NBC until they are finished undermining Western civilization.

Posted on July 29, 2012 at 9:39amYou know, after many years of NOT watching the Olympics I finally decided to give it a try again this year, but after hearing about this disgrace by NBC, I am, again, curtailing my viewing of these games. Nice going, NBC, may you rot in Hell for all the evil decisions you have made against the American viewing public.

Posted on July 29, 2012 at 2:31amI don’t have tv anymore due to the disgraceful and corrupt crap offered. So, how many obozo ads “of lying about Romney lying about what the liar said exactly” did nbc broadcast during the opening ceremonies? To have that ugly mug of a fraud popping up while on the internet makes my blood pressure rise. May his days be numbered, and may his next residence be at gitmo.

This is an international problem and one that can unify all of us. Shame on you once again NBC your coverage as usual stinks anyways. Would much prefer if HRTV was allowed to air the equestrian sports than NBC who always does awful eventing coverage.

Posted on July 28, 2012 at 9:52pmI say it’s time we stop giving religion a special treatment in all aspects of life.
Let’s have a Presidential debate specifically on their form of religion.
I want to know how their religion shapes their world views.
I want to know how Mitt Romney feels about being part of a religion that was founded by a well known con-man.
I want to know how Barack Obama feels about being part of a religion that talks about collective salvation.
I want to know how Rick Santorum can support a church that has and will continue to cover up child sex abuse cases in their church.
I want to know how Michelle Bachman feels about being part of a religion that says people are born worthy of eternal damnation.
I want to know how Christians feel about being part of a religion that hijacked another religion’s God.
I want to know how Muslims feel about about being part of a religion that hijacked another religion’s God.
Same for Mormons.
I want Jews to tell me how they can think Abraham was righteous because he was following Gods command to murder his son.
I think it‘s time we look down upon people who make irrational claims but declare that it’s, “their belief.”
I think it’s time we move beyond believing.

Posted on July 28, 2012 at 11:24pmWhats beyond belief? All the great scientists past had a belief in something. Sir Isaac Newton said that the human thumb with all the muscles and tendons and the way it moves is proof enough for him to believe in God. Albert Einstein stood on multiple occasions to defend his belief in God. A scientific theory is just that; a belief, a theory yet to be proven to be a knowledge. With out a belief we’d all still be carrying clubs dragging women by their hair. Belief empowers people giving them hope to be and do better. Even this great country stated as a belief that was preposterous. A hand full of farmers and common people taking on the most powerful respected military of the time. Let people believe what they want that’s why the pilgrims first left.

Posted on July 30, 2012 at 12:56pmIt’s true many people do horrible things in the name of a believe in a “God” or gods, or divine beings and so forth. But, it‘s kind of idiotic not to see that believe who are don’t believe in such things can be just as bad if not worse. And they can also be hypocritical as well. So, I‘m not sure the point of pointing out the hypocrisies of individuals out of the billions who’ve ever existed who’ve believed in the divine. For you can do the same with those who haven’t believed in it.
And you can “spin” things in a way to make anything sound bad. Why do you mention Michelle Bachman ALONE when all you should realize that all you’re doing is (distorting so) elaborating on what the New testament itself clearly says. I realize that you and even many Christians don’t adhere strictly to the New testament literally. But that’s not my point. The whole idea of being a “Jesus freak” is to simply believe the exact same things as Paul, peter, John, Jesus, and so forth, or at least close enough to them. Now you may disagree with them, and that’s fine. But when it comes to MORALITY, who’s the one doing the hating? I mention “distorting” because the New testament makes it clear that even though every person may be guilty enough to stand condemned before God in judgment, it ALSO MAKES clear (& GOSPEL = “good news”) that ANYONE can EASILY avoid it by SIMPLY confessing, & FOREVER be GUILT FREE before HIM! GRACE is FREE, for you as well! We may disagree about God’
