Discovery Channel Launching Exorcism Series

Consider it the “X-Files” mixed with religion.

The Catholic church is opening up its old files to the Discovery Channel for new series focusing on exorcism stories. The series, to be called “The Exorcist Files,” will debut this spring. Entertainment Weekly reports:

The Exorcist Files will recreate stories of real-life hauntings and demonic possession, based on cases investigated by the Catholic Church. The project includes access into the Vatican’s case files, as well as interviews with the organization’s top exorcists — religious experts who are rarely seen on television.

“The Vatican is an extraordinarily hard place to get access to, but we explained we’re not going to try to tell people what to think,” Discovery president and GM Clark Bunting told EW.

If all goes well, Bunting said he’s hoping to eventually gain access to real exorcisms instead of re-enactments.

“The work these folks do, and their conviction in their beliefs, make for fascinating stories,” Bunting says.

I can’t believe all the comments like this is a superstition. Did you not read the Bible and read about what happened when Jesus told demons to come out of people? Do you not believe in the Devil? Give me a break people. These things exist. Where do you think bad houghts come from? Do you think it’s just a bad personality or something bad telling you things.

The Discovery Channel does well in many of their programs, but when they focus on subjects in the Bible, they go way off course.
Their story lines and conclusions do not adhere to what the Bible actually says.
This subject will follow the same course, as they will focus on what the catholic church has developed in their traditions. It will not accurately explain why there is the problem of demon possession in the first place. Satan the Devil is the root of all wickedness, and the death of all mankind up to this point.

It is so sad to read all these confused comments.
These folks have no idea of the powers that The True God, Jesus, and the Devil Satan have on the affairs of men. They make their little jokes, and scoff at what the Bible tells us about the spirit realm. They belittle the true God, Jehovah (Yahweh), they scoff at our redeemer Jesus. And they do not believe in the reality of Satan’s existence.
The Bible identifies Satan the Devil as the RULER of this world. Could there be a more logical reason for all the wickedness we see?
They will know very soon of the sovereignty of our Creator and the power of His Son, Jesus.

And I say one day the delusional will know reality instead of believing what they were told by others who never offered any proof. One thing you people do not grasp: those of us who address the world in a logical fashion feel no anger, scorn or negative feelings of any kind toward things we believe are not real. We are not afraid and we do not feel animosity. We are happy with the wonders the real world offers and choose not to play pretend with the religious among us. If you truly are firm in your beliefs, you wouldn’t be so desperate to have us share them with you.

Christ as “son of God” is fiction my friend promulgated by the early creators of the roots of the dynastically organized catholic church at the council of Nicea in 336, as led by the Emperor Constantine.

Kom all of the “New testament” was written 75 to 200 years after the death of Christ. None of the gospels according to the apostles call him the son of God. The gospels which were chosen for the “Bible” were all chosen because they agreed with the spin the Nicea council wanted to present. The Bible as we know it was codified at that council.

Bad opportunity for spiritual backlash among those who already think this is “cool”. Have priest friends who have told me some pretty freaky horrific experiences. To quote one friend, “Anyone who is eager to encounter the devil and demons based off of movies is naive or nuts.” It requires a specialized spiritual life, fasting, etc. and the person is hand picked by the bishop. it also requires extensive psychological testing to make sure they’re dealing with the real deal. Either way, best to leave this topic away from “reality” based shows Iand ray for tthe poor souls afflicted iMHO.

People end up sued, in jail, or dead because they see a movie and think it’s a game or sprinkling someone with Holy water, or they’re dealing with a person suffering from a mental disease instead of legimate possession. The point being, the show would devolve into a typical parody of the real deal, and Lord knows we don’t need to trivialize the legitimacy of demons and spiritual warfare.

Superstition and religion are very different.

Superstition = a belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance, or a false conception of causation (from Mirriam-Webster). Kinda like baseball players eating the same meal every day to keep a hitting streak going.

Religion = the service and worship of God (also from Mirriam-Webster)

You’s think that if religion was superstition and vice versa, the dictionary would have the same or similar definition.

      __________________________

Disagree entirely. You’re reading your own opinion into definitions.

Just because you have a lack of causation, doesn’t mean the cause is natural. Therein lies the difference between secular sciency talk and Faith. Faith takes into account that things cannot always be explained.

I’m getting deep into Quantum Mechanics and String Theory there, I know, but your argument falls apart science can’t explain things like how matter can pop out of existence then pop back in elsewhere. You seriously gonna tell me you can disprove the existance of God via science?

That’s putting a heck of a lot of belief in something for which there is no proof and in a set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a scientist.

In fact, if you substitute the word “scientist” for “teacher” and throw in the fact that the bulk of what you’re saying is attempting to disprove spiritual beliefs via science, and it sounds like you’ve got faith in your own religion to me.

After all, “a set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader“ is one of the alternate definitions of religion and ”a firm belief in something for which there is no proof” is the definition of faith.

Dad would always recite the Bible’s passage of Christ driving out the demons from the swine by driving them off the cliff. (I’d have to reread/look it up, so if I’ve made a mistake here, please forgive me. I’m no Biblical scholar.) My point is that exorcism is highly controversial, but this should be an interesting documentary. Don‘t discount it until we’ve seen it.

“we’re not going to try to tell people what to think”
I guess they‘ll leave that to Oprah’s network.

I’m sure all the exorcisms will be done on libs. They are the ones most susceptible to demonic possession. Just look at their actions. I rest my case.

I wonder if the Vatican has exorcised their pedophile priests?

The Catholic church has been a country club for pedophiles for a long, long time. Isn’t it amazing that GOD would stand by and allow this vile activity to go on for so long? Yet, if a church bus rolls and all survive, God gets all the credit. Not very logical is it?

Neofan, you’re doing all right in the race for the top name caller on The Blaze, but you have a way to go yet to catch up to crusty and some your colleagues here. Don’t give up neofan.

Name Caller! Ouch! You can be really brutal Becksnuts. You love me. I can see you smiling. I just can’t resist poking you because your so sensitive. You are a funny one. You attack the things that people are most defensive of and then cry wolf if anyone fights back. You have “its the world according to me syndrome”. Kinda like Rosey Odumbell, and Joy Behoe. You should get out of New Jersey and visit a farm and see how your burgers are made instead of cursing those backwards redneck cattle ranchers. You might learn that there are good people out there even though you have dismissed them as too stupid to talk to.

“Mark 3:23 – How can Satan cast out Satan?”
To wit, how can men who are already possessed by demons cast out their own kind from others?
And why would they want to?

Neofan, my little fun loving buddy, what was that all about? It made no sense at all. Was that intended as some kind of insult? Try again.

And I thought it was a TV series about the purging of Obama’s Communists from America. Not watching.

LILI VON SHTUPP: “Hello, cowboy. What’s your name?”
cowboy TEX [relaxing with his feet up]: “Tex, ma’am!”
LILI VON SHTUPP: ” ‘ Texmam’ ? Tell me, Texmam, are you in show business?”
      cowboy TEX: “Well … no.”
LILI VON SHTUPP: “Then why don‘t you get your fwiggin’ feet off the stage?”
