‘Disgrace’: U.S. Soccer Team Faces Boos and Spanish Language Ceremony in Loss to Mexico…in Los Angeles

It was imperfectly odd. It was strangely unsettling. It was uniquely American.

On a balmy early Saturday summer evening, the U.S soccer team played for a prestigious championship in a U.S. stadium … and was smothered in boos.

Its fans were vastly outnumbered. Its goalkeeper was bathed in a chanted obscenity. Even its national anthem was filled with the blowing of air horns and bouncing of beach balls.

Most of these hostile visitors didn’t live in another country. Most, in fact, were not visitors at all, many of them being U.S. residents whose lives are here but whose sporting souls remain elsewhere.

Goalkeeper Tim Howard was still upset after the U.S. lost the Gold Cup final, but his strongest reaction had nothing to do with the four goals Mexico slotted in his net.

After El Tri’s 4-2 victory at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., Howard blasted CONCACAF officials for conducting the title ceremony in Spanish.

“CONCACAF should be ashamed of themselves,” Howard said. “I think it was a [expletive] disgrace that the entire postmatch ceremony was in Spanish. You can bet your ass that if we were in Mexico City, it wouldn’t be all in English.

For a team hosting a Gold Cup final on its soil, there was something awry at the Rose Bowl during Mexico’s 4-2 come-from-behind thrashing of the United States.

No, it wasn’t Jonathan Bornstein’s horrendous marking performance against Mexico’s wingers.

Rather, it was sea of green jerseys that swarmed the 92,000-seat stadium and the fact the trophy presentation was emceed by a famous Mexican television host, Fernando Fiore, who only spoke in English to announce the United States as the players picked up their runner-up medals.

There is nothing wrong with the presentation being in Spanish but since CONCACAF is a governing body that represents both of its English and Spanish speaking finalists, there should have been a concerted effort to have a trophy celebration that was entirely bilingual. It isn’t something out of the ordinary in soccer, as UEFA conducts its games in the languages of both teams competing.

      Are You really want to give back California to Mexico?, do you realize that California produces more than half of the nation’s fresh fruits and is the leading producer of fresh vegetables and most of this crops are done by hispanic people legal or illegal they do the job. If we are frustrated at our country being taken over, channel that anger into calling your congressman or woman, emailing your Senator, and overall working against amnesty.       Thanks for being the first in the comments to say this. There is a lot of hate towards Mexicans, but it’s misdirected because our politicians caused this. If American people begin to hate a nationality or ethnicity then we are no better than those of us in the past that chose to hate the Irish, Germans, Japanese….

      This reality is of our own making, and people should use the tools they have (politicians) to enact change. Americans can be angry all they want, but it happened under our watch.       I watched it too and this is what we get for allowing unfettered immigration (legal and illegal) for decades. Los Angeles is the second largest Mexican city (by population) after Mexico City. Chicago is fifth. They’re taking over demographically and, thus, politically. And their allegiance remains totally Mexican. They couldn’t give a darn about the USA. Not at all. Watch a newscast on the channels that serve them and you’ll see for yourself.

      These folks aren’t the humble people for whom “give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses…” was written. No, this is a conquering hoard. The sooner we figure this out, the sooner we might be able to take action to stop the bleeding.

      Did you see how less than 50% of the babies born in the USA now are white. Well, black birth rates are down slightly, so who do you think is picking up the slack? And how will they behave and vote 20 years from now? We’re screwed if we do nothing.

      If you don’t LOVE the United States, GO BACK HOME!

      When you TAKE something instead of EARNING it, you have no appreciation.
      When you work for a dollar, you appreciate it, and spend it well.
      When you get free money from govt checks, you have no impetus to appreciate it.

      When you STEAL ‘citizenship’ you have no impetus to appreciate it.
      When you grow up in the United States, you also have no impetus to appreciate it, which is much of our cause for decay, but, at least you USED TO BE reared to LOVE the U.S.A.
      Not anymore.

      There used to be stringent requirements for immigration. We all know how ‘stringent’ they are today – just walk across the ‘border’ and you get free money from the government!

      How’s about Mexico reimburse US for every single penny we spend supporting THEIR citizens?
      We gave them many of our jobs – THEIR CITIZENS still come here and take MORE of our jobs – and we support them – and we give them health care and we give them govt money – and we educate their kids.
      And they bring drugs with them and 50cal sniper rifles and…

      Reality sucks! Since the beginning of time (starting with Cro-Magnon man defeating Neanderthal)… one race conquers another and survives. Sometimes it happens by war, and sometimes by overwhelming migration or both. American Indians were not happy with the European ‘invaders’ who we now call Americans. Now Americans are not happy with third world ‘invaders’ we call Mexicans. I fear our country, as we knew it, is over unless we find the courage to stand up. Why is America in decline?? Lack of courage, common sense, faith, strength, determination, and all of the rest of the founding values that were necessary to found this nation. Now the Founding Principles have been perverted by Progressivism and ‘political correctness’ and actually contribute to our decline…such as equal rights for everyone (even illegals), social welfare benefits for the needy (even illegals), citizenship birth rights (even for illegals). There is a tipping point beyond which America can not recover, and it is NOW.       Its very sad how weak our leaders have become in regards to this type of thing. I am not ashamed to be an American. Quite the opposite. What has Mexico ever done to deserve to upstage America? All these Mexicans in this country showing zero respect. Its not because they have been wronged by us, its nothing but jealousy. They come here to get jobs, to get educated, to try and be safe. You would think they would be smart enough to appreciate these facts. But, alas, they are not. Its time to seal the border and start packing these illegals up and shipping them back. They will never stop this type of behavior. Our leaders have pandered to it for so long they now expect special treatments.

      The American dream promises you only one thing – they right to be here to try. Its up to you after that. If you lack education, training, language or whatever, its YOUR responsibility to manage those things. I have had enough with giving chances. Time to get rid of the trash. No more being pushed around. If you want to live like a Mexican, then go back there.

      Hmmmm. The “wetb$&@!” comments and the lack of toleration for other races here reminds me of something, oh yea, the Palestinians, something the same people here claim to be against. Hypocrisy is not a good policy. If you can suspend your cloaked racism for a second, you would see that soccer is and always has been the most popular sport in Mexico(and the rest of the world) and has many more fans (yes, even here in the U.S.) and had the team been brazil or England, there still would have been more fans for them than the US. The whole thing being in Spanish? That is the CONCACAF’s fault, not the winning contry’s, yet they are being blamed. So now many of you resort to racial slurs and intolerance. Hypocrites.
