‘Disgusting and Demeaning’: Romney Fires Back on Bain Attacks

President Obama’s attacks on former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney are pretty much universally agreed to have gone too far by this point. The President’s own surrogates are walking the attacks back, and other members of the press are rapidly spinning this as a very convincing instance of egg on the face of a major national campaign.

But until tonight, no one had heard Romney himself speak on the attacks. Fortunately, thanks to a hard hitting interview with Jim Acosta of CNN, that discrepancy has been remedied. Watch the interview via Mediaite below:

The interview is vast and wide-ranging in its scope, and we strongly suggest that readers watch the whole thing. However, the following are the parts we think are most relevant and hard hitting.

Romney on his role at Bain Capital after February of 1999:

I had no role whatsoever in the management of Bain Capital after February of 1999. Not that that would have been a problem to have said I was with the firm beyond that, but I simply wasn’t. I left in February of 1999 to run the Olympics. I went and did that full-time, relinquished all management, authority and role.[...]

There’s a difference being being a shareholder and running the entity. I had no role whatsoever in managing Bain Capital after February of 1999.

On his involvement with Staples:

Actually, Staples at that point was an investment by Bain Capital. Bain Capital had already sold its shares, distributed its shares in Staples. So my involvement with Staples was entirely on a personal basis. I continued to be involved with the firm, but it was as a fiduciary for Staples, not representative of Bain Capital, because Bain Capital had no further interest in Staples at that point.

And finally, on President Obama’s “felon” attack:

Is this the level the Obama campaign is willing to stoop to? Is this up to the standards expected of the presidency of the United States? I don’t think the American people think so; I certainly don’t think so. I think it’s a very disappointing revelation on their part. [...]

It is disgusting, demeaning, and something I think the president should take responsibility for and stop.

Difficult to put it more clearly than that.

It is as if Romney is more responsible for things he is accused of doing, then Obama is of things he did do.

      Flashback:Romney in 2012:

“In order to make sure that I didn’t have a conflict of interest while I was Governor, or when I was considering a run for national office, I had a blind trust established.”

      Romney in 1994:

“The blind trust is an age-old ruse, if you will, which is to say, you can always tell the blind trust what it can and cannot do. You give a blind trust rules.”

    CROSS ROADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Put out a commercial showing Barack Obama LAWYER APPLICATION and do a CLOSE UP of the CHECK MARK ON THE FORM that says he NEVER USED ANOTHER NAME!

Obama also LIED saying he never received tickets, etc. on that same application.

Then say OBAMA LIED on HIS BAR APPLICATION FORM (to get back at Obama for saying Romney supposedly lied on a Bain form) and show the tickets.

    http://www.obamaconspiracy.org/2008/12/barack-obama-committed-purjury-on-his-illinois-bar-application/
The Illinois Attorney Registration and Discipline Commission (ARDC) Individual Attorney Record of Public Registration for Barack H. Obama Jr. indicated NONE in the box for Full Former Name(s

    http://www.nationalreview.com/campaign-spot/9404/how-did-obama-answer-his-state-bar-application-question-about-parking-tickets
But here’s the thing: Barack Obama is a member of the state bar of Illinois, and was admitted in December 1991. The application to the bar requires aspiring lawyers to disclose just about any run-in with the law on both the “Character and Fitness Questionnaire” and the “Illinois State Police Form.”

WATERSRPEOPLE, again with the subterfuge. The meat of the article is that the Obama campaign spouts nothing but lies, and avoids addressing the problems this great country faces, and Obama is partially responsible for. Obama is the single most unaccomplished president ever. He’s done nothing. He has no executive experience, he has no business experience. He’s a school teacher at best, but lord knows who would have their child be taught by such a chip on the shoulder chump as Barry S. He’s definetly not American in spirit or deed. Distortions in the Webster are considered lies and why do you defend any politician because they ALL LIE. They don’t call it lies they call it negotiations.

And I hate to say it but so did Reagan and Newt. The two best politicians that the Republicans put up in the last 30 years.

Obama deserves tougher scrutiny than he has been getting, especially of his
undergraduate years, his start in Chicago and his relationship with Antoin
‘Tony’ Rezko, who was convicted of influence-peddling in Chicago. Obama has also appointed Muslim Brotherhood men in key and sensitive posts. His lavish loan of billions of dollars to Egypt’s
Muslim Brotherhood when America itself is reeling under the heavy burden of
loans is a matter for scrutiny. Nothing is also mentioned about Obama’s
acknowledged drug use as a teenager. With these skeletons in the cupboard, is
there any significance in attacking Mitt merely because he is rich? Bain Capital issue exposes Obama’s mean and cunning character.

Clear channel is not “owned” by Bain. They are equity partners along with Thomas H Lee Partners as of 2006 and smart to have equity in Clearchannel one of the most successful media companies out there. As I pointed out to another poster with Rocks in There Head, Bain does NOT own this website. Romney does NOT own Bain Capital. You assume that all the conservative hosts would not support Romney if Bain did not have equity in Clearchannel, the network that hosts the more successful conservative talk show hosts mentioned above. That is an absurd notion.
Your post is whats known as a smear. A stupid one at that. Bain is successful with and without Romney and is not the boogy man under the bed.
I love your Chenney smear. The former VP was not the CEO of Halliburton at the same time he was the VP. They did get no bid contracts and STILL DO. Why? I don’t agree. Romney should not have to show any more of his tax returns whether Obama shows his transcripts or not. Romney gave more then what they asked for and I am hoping that he doesn’t give in and show more. He can mention about Obama‘s transcripts but I wouldn’t say it as a trade of if you show me yours I’ll show you mine. But with that aside, I think Romney handled that interview great. Why don’t Mitt and his team fire back at Obama and his team with; I’ll submit my tax returns when Obama releases his college transcripts. Point out Obama‘s history of Chicago tactics and how it’s being used again to eleminate the competition. Then ask these yahoos why they didn’t investigate Obama when he ran in 08 or even now for that matter. Ask, when it is proven that Obama was lying if they are going to grill him. Geez we need a military guy like Allen West who will hit back hard and not apologize.

Yea, Bain Capital does not “own” Clearchannel. They are equity partners along with Thomas H Lee Partners. Bain does not basically pay for this site. This site is owned by Mercury Radio Arts. Do you even understand how business ownership works? Equity partnerships? Lets say for the sake of your, “argument”, and that’s being generous, Bain Capital owns all the entities and “people” you suggest, what do you think that means? Do you seriously think the above mentioned conservative radio hosts would not support Romney if Bain Capital did not have an equity share in Clearchannel? The answer is self evident.
I have a job thanks to Bain Capital and specifically Mitt Romney. I say Bain is smart to be an equity partner in Clearchannel. They are one of the most successful media companies out there. Oh, but that is bad thing right? I can only hope for your sake that you are just misguided and haven’t thought about what you sound like when you demonize success. Would you rather everyone be failures? Do you celebrate mediocrity? Nothing like a failed business to aspire to in America, right Rocks In Your Head?
The Bain Capital boogy man narrative is weak and pathetic. And I doubt the independents and women will run from Romney as I do not think they have ROCKS IN THERE HEAD like you.

I hope Mitt can talk away the fact that SEC filings a full 2 years after his leaving Bain in 1999 identify him as CEO and president. Being sole shareholder is one thing, hard to ignore roles that have to be active like CEO and president. Perhaps the second made a clerical error, but until we know that then this is going to haunt him. And smiling it away may not work.

Strange that a man like Mitt might have not cleared this up previously.

Of course you are completely correct about the ownership and SEC filings. Good luck making the case on this website – as most the people will not listen.

Romney says he was not involved with Bain after 1999 but yet he was sole owner and the tax filings indicated he was CEO – how does he expect to get around that? Acting like he is offended is usually reserved for people in the wrong.

Mitt thinks he can just say whatever and people will believe him – but facts are not on his side. He has a flip flopping past and he will not be trusted

The idea that Obama and company wouldnt attack on this is just silly. Acting like the Obama people have a issue with lies shows Romney is completely outmatched and has no clue of what is going on.

    http://www.fox19.com/story/19015376/reality-check-did-mitt-romney-commit-a-federal-felony-by-not-accurately-reporting-his-role-at-bain-capital

I want to see the report the SEC report on this. I mean there are 5 SEC filings on companies created in 2002 that Romney was their boss. If that is true and Romney is found guilty the GOP has been completely played.

Problem for Romney even if he is cleared of this is we are a headline nation. For three days now people have seen typical political back and forth but the words “felon” and “Romney” are tied together.
If the Romney camp didnt know this was going to be a issue they are showing once again they are just not cut out for the job. If they did know, they should have handled it better.

Either way no matter who wins in November, Americans lose.

There is no way you can connect me to being pro Obama. Last I checked, cutting spending, ending the pointless overseas wars, ending the FED, ending the TSA, repealing the Patriot act and NDAA, and making government smaller are Ron Paul plans. Romney and Obama dont like those ideas. Remember I dont see the difference between the two of them. If I wanted Obama’s polices like you I would be voting for Romney.

I would say your statement is true of anyone who has voted for federal office candidates from either establishment party for the last 30+ years. Let’s face it, most in here identify with the R brand and so everything the R‘s do is good and everything the D’s do is wrong. Go to the Huff Po and most in there identify with the D brand and so they think just the opposite. Neither group is employing clear headed rational thought to the process. Both establishment parties are progressive at their cores. If you crave love of country, I prefer to call it constitutional fidelity, and freedom, I prefer to call it liberty, start looking elsewhere. You won’t find either in a Romney administration or an Obama administration. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Peace.
