Disgusting: Woman Allegedly Finds Live Maggots in Nut Mix on Flight out of LAX

Woman Finds Live Maggots in Airline Nut Mix in Flight from LAX to Melbourne

For many, creature comforts have all but disappeared from flying.  The leg room is minimal, the miscellaneous fees are outrageous, and the staff can’t always be depended upon.

And now, a report has surfaced of live maggots in the nut mix.

Yes, Victoria Cleven, 42, claims to have received bag of nuts on a Qantas flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne that was crawling with maggots.  The lights were out on the overnight flight when she opened the bag, so she reportedly started eating them on accident.

“It tasted strange and I turned the light on and looked at the rest of the packet and started seeing maggots coming out of it everywhere…I couldn’t talk. I was nearly throwing up. I was beside myself,” she said.

The married mother checked her son’s mix immediately thereafter, and found it to be infested as well.

She took video of the disgusting discovery:

Mrs. Cleven said she was offered a full refund, but in the end, only received roughly 1/4 of what her flight cost.

A spokesman for Qantas airlines said the matter is being investigated.  “Qantas sincerely apologizes to Mrs Cleven for the incident that occurred on her return flight from LAX to Melbourne…Qantas has also contacted the supplier and is currently investigating how this issue occurred,” he said.

Sydney Biscuit Company, which manufactures the nut mix, said it was possible that moths got into the packets when they were being stored at a warehouse.

Maggots are full of protein. They are better for you than the nut job who probably planted them in the nut mix.

I would suggest the airline inspect all the snack packs in their inventory. Not only for maggots, but other creepy crawlies (roaches).

Ahhh . . . hate to break it to you lady, but that does not look like a bag of nuts. Did you chew them and then spit them out and take a video? Ahhh no worries, like other people said, it is just a little extra protein.

    This is hilarious!
Brings back a childhood memory from flyover country. My brother and I would ride to the hardware store with our Dad, and if good we got a treat. We learned early that the payday candy bar from the little store where the shopkeeper was nearly blind usually had an unexpected treat, a live one. Needless to say we switched to ice cream bars, or anything that was kept in the freezer. Maybe the airline could just switch snacks, pink slime popsicles?

If it were a Chinese Airline, she might have passed out from the fumes coming into the cabin from the ducts….

Sydney biscuit company needs to get a clue before they start suggesting what happened. Maggots come from flies. They are the larvae.

By the way, they can also be used for medicinal purposes.

The maggots were higher in protein and lower in calories from fat than the nuts. Just sayin’.

Was it China Air? I had a flight on that airline to china last year and there were, what looked like meal worms in the noodles, but it turned out to be just chinese food. Not maggots. Get over yourself.

Ya gotta give The Blaze credit for ferreting-out the really big stories, like this one that’s sooo important.
I know a person that once found a used bandage in his salad, but alas, that was before The Blaze existed and back when ample news stories were available.
A woman in restaurantnt complained to the waitress about the fly she had in her soup. The waitress shushed the complainer, carefully looked side to side to see if any had overheard, then told the woman “if the others hear you they’ll ALL want one.”

Question: were her two snacks the only two on the plane that were infested?
