‘Shut the F**k Up’: Disturbing Viral Video Shows Middle Schoolers Abusing & Threatening Bus Monitor

Editor’s note: We have added a webcast at the bottom of this post featuring Billy Hallowell and Scott Baker from The Blaze discussing this disturbing story.

Update: We’ve also posted a new interview with the bus monitor and her call for the students to be punished.  You can see that here.

Prepare to see a disturbing video of young people at their worst. This clip of middle schoolers allegedly abusing a bus monitor is so disgusting, so bothersome that it will leave many wondering what has gone awry in our society. Of course, it is merely one of the many tragic, anecdotal instances of human cruelty that we so often see today. The unbelievable clip is painful to watch, as it shows alleged students from Greece Athena Middle School in Rochester, New York (my hometown) take their abuse to horrific levels.

(Related: Online Campaign Raises $124,000 (& Counting) for Bus Monitor Abused & Threatened by Middle Schoolers)

The woman purportedly shown in the video, Karen Huff Klein, 68, is victimized incessantly, as students spew insults and obscenities at her. Throughout the clip, the children can be heard in the background calling her “fat,” threatening her and making fun of her hairstyle, among other sentiments. Astonishingly, the abuse continues for more than 10 minutes.

Watch the disturbing video (caution: language) below:

According to the Brighton-Pittsford Post, the video was originally posted on Facebook and was later uploaded to YouTube. The version presented above is not the original and was re-posted on the video platform by an individual with the username “CapitalTrigga.”

WHAM-TV has more about the incident and the clip, which has gone viral and is beginning to attract national attention:

You can see some students on camera and hear others off camera taunting the woman about her weight.

The students also talk about threatening to go over to the bus monitor’s house and steal from her.

Greece Central School District has asked YouTube to take down the video.

Spokeswoman Laurel Heiden said their bullying response and prevention team was activated and all students involved will face disciplinary action.

It’s unclear when this incident happened.

The school district believes all the students are in middle school.

Of course, this description is mild when compared to hearing the actual words used in the clip. As can be viewed and heard above, the children told Klein that she looks like a troll and that she should “shut the f**k up” when she tried to defend herself.

Here‘s a selection of some of the other grotesque comments that were thrown Klein’s way in the first minute of the clip:

“Fat ass.”

“Oh my God, you’re so fat.”

“You take up like the whole entire seat.”

“Put those glasses back on. I can’t stand looking at your face.”

When the woman tells the kids that she is crying (presumably as a result of their attacks) they refuse to relent. In fact, one kid can be heard saying that she’s shedding tears because “she probably misses her box of Twinkies.” Here’s more:

“You have refluxes of an elephant,” another child can be heard saying.

“She‘s going to pick out which kid she’s going to rape next,” another quipped.

“She’s going to die of diabetes, because she’s so damn fat,” said another.

At moments, the youths even poked and attempted to touch the woman, as she sat, for the most part quietly, and allowed their abuse to continue.

“If I stabbed you in the stomach, my knife would go through you like butter because it’s all f**king water,” another kid said.

Among the comment that hurt the most, Klein told WHAM-TV that one child’s statement that she is so ugly that her “kids should kill themselves” was particularly hurtful. Her son committed suicide 10 years ago. Reporter Patrice Walsh tweeted about the interview, claiming that the incident occurred this past Monday:

Video Shows Bus Monitor Being Abused by Greece Athena Students

“Greece Police say they are concerned for safety of students involved and may put officers outside their homes,” Walsh also wrote on the social media platform.

“We really have to focus on fact, and we are very concerned about (their) safety. These are most likely 12, 13, 14-year-old kids,” Steve Chatterton of Greece Police Department told YNN. “There’s people that are posting their addresses online, so we as a police department are concerned about that.”

YNN continues, highlighting how Klein is reacting in the wake of the incident:

Klein described the four 7th and 8th graders who harassed her as partners in crime. She said they have been acting up the past couple months but said they’ve never attacked her like this before.

In hindsight, Klein said she should’ve taken the phone away from the student. She said she does want the kids who were involved disciplined but said she‘ll leave it to the district to decide what’s appropriate.

Klein said there were about 30 other students on the bus when this was all happening when I asked how they reacted she said most were just talking amongst themselves and ignored it.

A second purported video is also mentioned by the Post. See it here (caution: language):

Klein has worked with the district for 23 years, WHEC-TV reports. She was a bus driver before becoming a bus matron two and a half years ago. School officials and local police are both continuing to investigate, as members of the community voice their outrage.

This story has been updated.

Editor’s note: Scott Baker and Billy Hallowell from The Blaze discussed this disturbing story in a webcast that aired live on Wednesday afternoon. You can watch the recorded version below:

UPDATE: Mediaite has posted this heartwarming little kernel of information:

While you can always depend on those attempting to maneuver puberty being little monsters, we can also depend on the kindness of strangers. After the video went viral, a fundraiser was set up online to give the monitor, Karen Klein, a vacation. The goal was $5,000. As of this writing (6pm on June 20th), it’s already nearing $30,000! That’s nearly twice Klein’s yearly income!

Somehow this does not surprise me. The school knows which bus this is and I would bring in every parent whose kid rides this bus and shows the parents this video. Then every kid would never be allowed back into my school. If any parfent has a problem with this we can step outside. This all reflects on the parents. I guess when you have trash raising trash this is what you get. Good luck Rochester because you are going to need it. Also, we need to get the federal governmednt out of the education system, turn it back over to the state and bring discipline back into the system…

You are wrong in assuming every parent of each of these children are ‘trash’. Kids follow other kids; even good kids sometimes do bad by following other kids.

I agree with you that every kid involved should be required to attend a meeting at the school with their parents, but I disagree with you that they should never let those kids back in school. You give them a chance just like everyone should be given a chance. When you toss kids out of school, you are adding to the certainty that they will never amount to anything and that is plain stupid. You do discipline, and hopefully they learn from the discipline.

Not sure what I’d do, but it would be quite severe punishment for being this hateful to an adult for no cause.
These are the same type kids I see running around in stores, while the mothers don’t notice a thing. Must be the same way at home, as to why they are the way they are, hateful brats, and why mothers & dads are constantly fighting to set an example for little ones. Just get ‘em.

Respect starts at home. These kids never learned it and that IS the parent’s fault. And yes, these kids should be expelled from the school system and not allowed back. If they want to go to school , let their parent’s pony up for “special school” for these cretins. Would serve both the parents and the kids right.

You would take away school for these kids for an instance of very bad judgement and hurtful actions? You do not believe in teaching, only punishing? You actually condone destroying someone’s life over this? Sure, it’s bad, but their life? Many parents cannot pony up for private school so you’d be condemning these kids to a life of poverty and crime with very little chance to dig themselves out. It just never ceases to amaze me how mean-spirited and ignorant some of the Blaze posters here can be! Discipline and consequences for very bad actions are expected, but to virtually destroy a life is utterly ridiculous! I hope no one ever took your life chances away for making a bad mistake, assuming you have ever made a bad mistake, or, at least, will admit same.

Parents that live by a moral standard have children that behave with morals.
These children are the product of irresponsible adults. These little tyrants most

I never said “lets hug em and tell em everything is ok”
These are middle school kids. They need to be punished, no doubt, and I have stated such. But to want their lives destroyed by kicking them out of school makes no sense at all. Of course, you’re probably one of those “christians” here who would shoot dead a middle school child for stealing a candy bar.

“You commented locking them in there room after smacking them would indicate bad parenting”

Wrong. I commented BEATING them and locking them in a room for 6 months was bad parenting and it is. I am not against spanking, and I am not against punishment. I am against beating a child of any age. Perhaps beating children helps you get off.

I never made a mistake like this because I grew up respecting others. I still do. I respect everyone until such time as they earn my disrespect. These kids are beyond the rim. I never said they shouldn’t be allowed an education on that they should not be allowed back into the public system where they have proven they are both a distraction and very real danger to others. Let their parents pay for their education somewhere else‘ somewhere where this type of behavior wouldn’t be tolerated for a second and watch how good and involved the parents suddenly become where it’s their money on the line. What no one seems to be noting is the PLEASURE these kids are getting out of being this mean and disrespectful to another person. They are happy, enjoying themselves by being cruel. A person, regardless of age, does not learn this behavior in a day. They have been allowed to get away with this kind of cruelty too long, at school and at home.

Yes, they should be expelled but if they had decent parents they would also get a real butt whipping and every single pleasure in their miserable little lives taken away for months. They should also be required to stand before the whole school at an assembly and apologize to this woman.

They should also be very glad that that lady is not my Mother.

You don’t have to expel the kids from school just ban them from riding the bus for two weeks first offense one month second offense and the rest of the school year third offense. Fact is the school bus should be a zero tolerence zone for misbehavior it the most dangerous part of school. At anytime a distraction could cause an accident resulting in injurys and or deaths. Make the parents be responsible for getting them to and from school TRUST ME when the parents have to re-arranged thier schedules they ‘ll be put the hammer down on their childs behavior.

@Thomas Paine “Children are mirror images of their parents.” Actually this is not necessarily true in this place called Rochester.. I’m from there… It’s a strange place with some of the meanest kids in the country… A lot of these kids are raised better and have good parents.. It is a very cliquey place and kids are 2 faced.. At home angles of their parents eye and when they get to school pressured to get the respect of their peers including if it means berating or attacking others… It’s an exttremely cliquey place… Kids are home inside most of the winter and don’t learn reality.. It’s not the city, it‘s not the country it’s La la land… Passive people who are not city people or country people move to rochester suburbs and raise kids. close enough to the convenience of the city, but far enough from the sefl-reliance necessary in the country… All these types of people move there thinking they will raise kids in a good place but because of themselves, they’re kids are not guided well and end up worse than their parents not reflections of them… My parents were the same in rochester.. Great people with good morals but averse to conflict, and didn’t want to face their childrens problems head on.. Just let the school and professionals fix us… My parents are great but spineless like a lot of parents out there.. The kids in turn, have a free for all,

These children will grow up to be drug addicts, porn addicts, criminals, and the dregs of society (if they are not one or more of these already). They will have broken homes, ruined careers, failed marriages (or relationships), and prison sentences. They will have no love, no joy, and no hope for feelings of fulfillment when they reflect back as their own lives reach an end.

The parents, to a degree, maintain some responsibility to rear them in ways of respect and discipline and personal responsibility. If they do this, then the judgment is the child’s to bear. When the kids leave home (18), they are the only ones accountable to themselves.

While they are at this age and behaving this callously, they are already on a treacherous downward spiral of self-destruction. I would not hesitate, after seeing this video, to implement proper measures to discipline these kids. Behavior like this does not warrant a warning. They get none. If I was the parent of these children there would be hell to pay, especially if this was a trend long in development. No physical punishment, though. They would be cleaning their school’s toilets for a year. Their wardrobe would be replaced (sold) for something more humble in its place. There would be no television, no games, and no computer. They would be writing book reports that I would assign them, penalty of lateness or non-completion would result in fewer privileges. I am positive behavior and attitude would improve.

Starting on the very next school day all students will be advised that any abuse of school buses, drivers or monitors will cause them to be permanently lose their privilege to ride on any school vehicle for school classes, activities, sports etc. Not just for the year. Warn all parents especially showing evidence to current offenders, then all students, then execute. No appologies excepted. Like a previous poster mentioned, if the parents have to rearrange their schedule to get the kids to school then there will be a reckoning at home. These parents cannot say that their kids are angels now that they have it on a recording. The School Bus is a privilege, not a right. This is a product of a liberal – Godless society (NY) and public school. If you live in an area like this and send your children to a public school, this is what it looks like. Children tend to follow the lowest common denominator. That‘s why you should pick your children’s friends (forbid certain ones), and you can only do that if they are not in a public school setting.

jrhusky and everyone – these kids are in middle school. The are likely not 16 yet, although some may be. Our public education system MUST educate every one under 16. They can’t just kick them out of school and clap the dust off their hands and be done. They are forced to deal with these kids.

There should be meetings for each of the kids with the parents, separately from the other kids. Besides any punishments, which I think there definately should be strict ones, the school should present their expectations and have consequences. Like, we are keeping a very close eye on this kid and if this kid does anything like this again he/she will be placed in an alternative setting. Go to the special school or the night school with the other delinquents. The school did this with my grandaughter who was doing idiotic things in school with her friends and boy did she straighten up fast after having to do a few months of night school with the REALLY bad kids.

@JHRUSKY: I was caught at school under the influence of marijuana in the 10th grade. I was expelled and sent to the “special” school a.k.a. Continuation High School. My parents also made me attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings for a year (even though I wasn’t an addict). After a school year of being banished (yes the school was in the middle of dairy farms, even though we lived in a suburban city of Southern California) and associating with kids that had criminal records, I decided that I didn’t want that for my life. I finished my expulsion there, went back to the regular high school in 11th grade with the fear of God and my parents in me, I worked my butt off to stay out of trouble and graduate. I am now very fortunate to have a solid career with a good reputation in my industry. The fact that I was held accountable for my actions made me who I am today. I cringe to think what I would have become had I not had to “pay” for my bad behavior when I was young. Yes, kids make poor choices, but that doesn’t mean that they should not be held accountable for those choices; that is how they learn.

These kids need to be held accountable for their bad behavior; and the punishment needs to be severe enough to create the change. It has been said that significant change requires a significant event. In this case, I think expulsion for a school year is appropriate.

Ah, Michelle Obama should be proud!
Proud of all the hate-mongering, all the elitist, holier-than-thou,
      food-nazi work she has done.
She has taught children, not only that it is good to exercise, but also,
that if you are overweight or fat, you are LESS OF A PERSON,
your life is worth less, and is meaningless. (Ask Oprah about how Mrs. Obama feels about fat people “waddling” about the White House)

We should also thank Mayor Bloomberg & Michael Moore, & other states & municipalities that are spreading this elitist hatred!

Sure, I weigh more than I’d like. But, that’s MY CHOICE !
I would rather have 67 great years of bacon-milkshakes, doughnuts, fried twinkies, corndogs, buttered popcorn, & 32oz sodas, than 112 years of arugula!
      & ya know what?
That is MY GOD-GIVEN RIGHT !

There’s also a large degree of age-ism going on! We went from catering to the ‘baby boomers’ to catering to the “millennials.“ We are discounting the ”X-Gen” who are having to clean up this mess, WHILE dealing with the upcoming hellions given us by the left! Too many companies are passing over the 40-somethings, to hire the 30-somethings, BECAUSE of AGE, while it is our life’s savings that was wiped out in this mess! Just toss us aside & hire the kid.

The left has also taught kids, when you don’t like someone… The appropriate response is to ATTACK.
When you disagree with them, tell them to STFU!

      @ thedan

I do not disagree with you that these children need punishment and something they will remember. Where we disagree is expulsion. If 3 or 5 days off works because that requires the parents to find a way to have them taken care of during the day (and while not all will, some surely will be sure their child is with an adult). Removing them from the bus for a period of time also seems fine as it, again, requires the parent to get involved. However, an entire year of expulsion from school seems far too drastic. Now, if this even has happened time and time again, I would agree that it’s time for expulsion.

That you were solid and mature enough to overcome a mistake is commendable, but probably does not mean every child will be. These are still children no matter how hurtful they have been. Children are some of the meanest beings on this planet towards each other … and even children of Christian homes even though many here choose to deny that.

Scorpion, I believe you are off base here. The government takes these kids for 180 days a year and provides very little meaningful discipline and NO moral training whatsoever. The values they do teach are not based on any moral authority. Instead, they are told everything is relative and right and wrong is whatever you “feel” it is. Self-esteem and feelings reign as supreme values. So bullying is “wrong”, but sex out of wedlock is not unless it is “unprotected”. The list could go on and on related to what modern day society deems right and wrong, but when you take away the Creator’s standard, you just have invented human standards. Humanists have to reject God‘s standards because there are too many things they don’t like, but it should not surprise us when kids choose to indulge their twisted nature. Add to that that the rest of the time, they are under media influence that tells them anything goes and worse. If you have a teen, you know that even if you ban almost all media like we do, our perverted culture slides through. It used to be that schools, churches, neighborhoods, organizations, etc., backed up what parents taught. Now, almost any parent will tell you, we are under seize. Short of completely withdrawing from the culture and moving somewhere remote to live off the land, your kids are hugely influenced by this rotten culture. I’m not totally excusing the parents, but it affects even good parents who try really hard to raise decent kids.

I have not watched the video, but let me just put in my 2 cents on parents: NO-ONE can judge a parent by the actions of a minor child! I have FIRST-HAND experience in this! You can raise a child with all of the morals you expect your child to behave by, with negative and positive consequences, and if THE CHILD CHOOSES to behave contrary to your teaching/discipline, that is their free will!! Every child is different in their personality. To say that it’s the fault of the parents is a blanket generalization. Yes, there are “bad” parents, but there are also “good” parents who have kids who will not obey no matter what discipline they are given. – “Judge not, lest YOU be judged”

All of them have been treated poorly by another child at one time or another. However, the school was quick to discipline the children appropriately. And, when the action called for it, they were expelled; one example is when a student had called the principal a racially derogatory term.

@deeberj, If you ban these kids from the bus, then not only would the parents take more interest in their kid’s bad behavior, it also removes them from a certain subset of extremely negative peer pressure. From what I remember of my own childhood experiences on a the school bus, cooping kids up for 45 mins to an hour can create some very temping situations for rowdy and uncouth behavior simply out of boredom. Removing them from the bus system is likely the best solution to this problem.

Always a shock to be confronted with reality. NEEDMOINFO has a fair solution, except didn’t go far enough. Each of these teens, and probably the whole school, needs lessons about how to relate to and have compassion for others. They’ve obviously missed the bus (pun intended). The perpetrators need a firm dose of punishment from which only their continued good behavior will release them (monitored detention during the “fun” classes, with daily papers to write – which will be reviewed by the bus monitor, and graded). In the meantime, they must be angels on that bus. An immediate personal apology is in order, with the parents standing beside their “spawn.” Like one post pointed out, only by being held responsible for their behavior will these black hearted children recover. Society does not need them in their current form.

Throwing kids out of school is not permanent. Please get off your high horse. In or out of school suspension and/or expulsion is warranted. This is not just a TEACHABLE moment for the kids to see that there is real consequences for their actions, but it will force their parents to take actions to now monitor their child and not use the school system as the main raiser and provider of the child.

If the kids don’t amount to much, it is their fault. Instead of learning from being thrown out of school and becoming an active member in civil society, they would be deciding to actively become nothing. The chance to prove oneself a model member of society is not on the school or society the the person in question.

Quite making excuse for their outrageous behavior. They want to go to college and have a good transcript, then don’t act like this. Set an example for the other kids. The learn by watching; and believe me, they are watching what they get away with.

Absolutely disgusting. These kids are a disgrace. I live in an area of the Atlanta suburbs where we have a lot of transplants from all over the US (including myself), and I have to say – kids from the Northeast are the worst. Arrogant, disrepectful troublemakers with little supervision. For example, some five-year-old from several blocks away (who we don’t know) wandered into our yard, intentionally hit another kid in the eye with a stick, and when his father (obnoxious, idiot New Yorker) showed up, he yelled at the kid that got hit. This guy had no idea where his five-year-old was until one of the other parents called him. If there’s a kid getting in trouble in the neighborhood, it’s a safe bet his family is from the Northeast.

These kids should be refused bus privileges. If their parents don’t like driving their kids to school, they should be allowed the opportunity to earn the privilege back by serving as bus monitors themselves for a reasonable period of time . . . say a month.

That would give them an eyeful of what kinds of issues are created by misbehaving and disrespectful kids. Even if they don’t observe their own kids breaking the rules, deep down, they know what’s going on, and this might actually shame them into modifying behaviors.

The problem here is that you are assuming that parents are raising these kids. Most parents have minimal involvement in their kids upbringing these days. Kids are raised by babysitters, daycare, preschool and school nowadays. The schools bear full responsibility for these kids from about age 3 up for most of them.

If you are offended by this, remember this is probably not an anomaly. This is happening on every bus in the country. If your kid is riding the bus, then he/she is either a victim or a perpetrator of this behavior, and don‘t think yours are innocent unless you’ve investigated.

When 50,000 kids leave the public schools every time something like this surfaces, the US Dept. of Ed will get the message loud and clear that America is serious about this issue, and it must stop. As long as parents show tacit approval of this behavior by getting up in the morning and feeding their kids to the big yellow bus, it will continue.

JR Husky, are you saying that a slap on the wrist is enough for assault? Because that is what these kids are doing when they threaten to stab this elderly woman. These are not sweet little moppets. These kids are threatening to do her bodily harm. Does she not have a right to justice? Once upon a time in this nation, we respected elderly people; we protected them from harm. Now you are saying it is okay for a kid to threaten an elderly woman with death? Why? Because society made them that way? They have no responsibility for their actions?

The fact that we don’t punish kids commensurate with this behavior is precisely why public school gives them the worst hope for a future. They are not learning to be responsible, educated, men and women in the public schools. They are learning to be illiterate criminals and thugs. The best hope for these kids to have a future would be to throw them out of crime infested public schools where this is all they are learning.

My first response that sent this thread into a rabid frenzy of desires to beat children and remove them from school by those with a lack of reading comprehension skills was that the kids should not be permanently removed from school as that is far too severe a punishment. The original post on this item very clearly stated:

Thus, my response that that was too severe. There is no horse involved, high or low — only common sense.

I can only tell you that if I had done this to this old woman I would want someone to blo my fu ing head off. Yes thats what I said. We thank you for justice street lawmen. God Bless you.”

Ah, another “christian” rears his loving, caring, forgiving head.
You are a perfect example for others to want to become Christians, aren’t you? Your words prove beyond all doubt what a wonderful person you are.

“… are you saying that a slap on the wrist is enough for assault? ”

Absolutely not. Of course, by reading these comments towards me here you would think that, but go ahead and search on my name and read every statement I have made here. Not a single one states anything resembling “a slap on the wrist”. I’ve stated punishment, nothing less. I have stated that beating should not be part of the equation, and expulsion should also not be part of the equation. (expulsion isn’t the same as suspension).

One person had a great choice of adding community service to the punishment … and that sounds good. Something that would ensure the parents were put out also would be a good thing to ensure home involvement.

This is no doubt very sad bullying that went on. I’ve seen it on the playground; I’ve seen it in the bars; I’ve seen it in the office. It’s not just kids, although kids are the meanest of them all. But it’s bullying … these children need punishment and then guidance and education. Only punishing will do nothing to help them change their ways. Children are still children. I’ve seen some pretty bad kids turn around and become model citizens because they had just punishments and then guidance and love. Unfortunately, it appears most here would rather bust their heads open.

…it will leave many wondering what has gone awry in our society. What need do we have to wonder this is a biblical truth…
Matt 24:12 “Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold.
Matt 24:13 “But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.

So much is happening and so quickly…only an unsaved fool(non-Christian) would not recognize the sign of the times…

Mark 13:29 “Even so, you too, when you see these things happening, recognize that He is near, right at the door.

Will you mourn when you see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory? Or will you rejoice?

This answer needs to percolate through all, of mankinds thoughts. Their freewill choice is only a short time from being rendered moot. As for me Jesus is my Savior.

      Killer,
“these kids were expelled and subsequently never received an education, can you guess who would most likely end up sopporting them through various government hand-out programs”

The educational systems is one of the reasons that we are seeing this kind of behavior. They are not educating kids anymore, they are indoctrinating them. American kids are off the charts when it comes to believing that they are brilliant and in the dumpster with actual knowledge.

The parents of this trophy kid generation is the other part of the problem. Previously, if a kid screwed up they would be in big trouble at home. That isn’t the case any more. A police officer recently told me, that when he catches a kid spray painting a building or doing something that they shouldn’t and takes the kid home to his parents instead of arresting them, the parents yell at him instead of the kid.

Rape, stabbing, break ins, etc. those are theats to her life, so besides having the parents there have the police there waiting to brings them right to the police station and press charges against each and every one of them. They are all little mini thugs at this point and will grow up to big thugs and get into bigger trouble, Nip it in the bud now, this is no joke.

However, if you really want to think about it (and you have to be honest to do this so it may or may not be difficult for you), these kids were raised by the parents you are condemning, thus the parents were apparently not taught well by their parents. That would put these kids’ parents in the, say mid 30′s. Then their parents also failed to teach their kids, and they’re in the mid-50s’ … getting close to you yet? Is it YOUR generation that screwed up since it must be the parents?

We all skimp and scrape by to pay for it, but sadly it leaks in there as well. So what is the solution other than homeschooling and keeping your kids completely away from what seems like the majority of society! It’s so disturbing on many levels, but in general I see less and less respect for others every place I go. I guess we all just try to be the salt and the light and pray a lot :)

JRHusky Teaching is my second career. My first was the military and we took these same punk kids and turned them into stand up people. The secret ingredient was discipline. As a teacher these kids are normal. Bleeding heart liberals choose to ignore what must be done. There is no punishment, no discipline and no respect. It takes quite a while to turn these punks into productive students but they get no reinforcement in society. Education should NOT be mandatory. If they can’t behave then they should be gone and it would solve most of the failing school problems. A second chance AFTER they have proven to have conducted themselves like human beings. Otherwise you have the criminals running the asylum. These kids have NO FEAR of talking to an adult like that. Everyone of those kids should have their backside tanned who participated in this. They should have to clean up streets, clean bathrooms and be made a lot more humble. It would build the character that they lack. Bullying, out of control behavior, and a plethora of bad attitude problems plague the public schools like a cancer. Teachers are not the only ones who should be held accountable–students should be made to conform, obey, and appreciate what they are getting for free. They squander it.

Many of you are suggesting that these brats should be expelled from the public school system. I don’t disagree. But, you’re suggesting that their parents should pay for them to go to private schools. PLEASE! The dear parents who are now paying for their students to have quality education in private schools certainly don’t need these criminals-in-the-making polluting the classrooms of their private schools. And, having served as a teacher in public, private, and charter schools, I know that many private schools are so strapped for finances, and have such open-door policies, that they WILL let these ne’er-do-wells in their schools! They will be fooled by the sob stories of the masquerading parental figures, and will take them in, saying that they can help them. However, we know what will happen. The quality of education for the entire class will be lowered substantially by their presence. These kids need REMEDIAL public education. Just put them in a room and let them color. They are gone. Do I sound jaded? I’ve seen it over and over again.

This made me cry. I think the thing that is so incredibly sad is that these are kids. They will someday be adults. What has caused our children to behave in a manner such as this. Totally void of any compassion, empathy or sense of right and wrong. Yes, I know. When a group of them get together and someone in the group gets it going it`s easy to go along with the croud. I guarantee you that if there were just one child sitting their with the woman the child would be polite and not say a word to her unless she spoke to them first. And yes, when and if each of these students are questioned about their actions ther will be some of them who say they are remourseful and sorry that they did what they did. Perhaps they will be reprimanded. They better be. But it will not solve the problem for most of them. Reasons for their behavior are probably many. And yes I would guess that part of the blame lies with the parents of some of them. I believe that unless there is a dramatic change in our values as people as a whole this behavior will continue to surface. It really should make all of us as parents take a closer look at what we are teaching our children or rather what we are not teaching them. Very sad. I was thrilled to hear that people with kind hearts came together to raise the money for this lady.

      Scorpion,

I drive a school bus, so I’m closer to this problem than any other posters. We are told that we cannot touch the students anywhere but on the elbow. We have to watch our language around the students. You can imagine how high your blood pressure gets when you are putting up with this crap day in and day out. It is definitely the parent’s problem. As we have more single parent homes and more and more kids living in poverty, some kids are never taught respect for authority. Some of these kids have major, major behavioral problems. To be a bus-aide or a school bus driver is a job without good pay, and with constant problems with students. Thank God I won’t be doing this very much longer. Society has deteriorated so badly that the kids run the schools nowdays. I talked to a driver with 40 years experience, and he said when he started the kids were well behaved. This all happened since the early 1970′s. Don‘t express any opinions on this topic until you’ve walked a mile in my shoes.

Hmmm … I dont’ see that. Unless you are not able to see the word “forced”?
Why so many of you have to continually add to comments made just so you can ridicule them certainly seems like you yourselves are dishonest.

No child in school should be taught the Bible unless they are in a specific school of their own religion. I don’t want my child having to be taught the Southern Baptist religion and I doubt you want your child having to be taught Black Christian Theology. Thus the problem of teaching the Bible in public school; whose Bible?

Now, if you want to stated we should teach the golden rule, I am all for that. But please, do not put words into my statements that were not there to begin with. The point I was making was when we had schools teaching the Bible, we had those same people who advocated that running around in white hoods. That wasn’t a good thing.

@JRHUSKY – While your idea is a noble one, you are being extremely naive. The problem most certainly lies with the parents. I am well aware of good kids making bad decisions. Having said that, from the last 16 years of experience, every little bully I have encountered are all products of their LOVELY parents. EVERY time my daughter came home from school and told me about someone being terribly nasty, when I met the parents (and I have met all of my child‘s friends’ parents) it is VERY apprent why the kids behave this way. Life is hard and it has consequences. Even if a child is in poverty and has worthless parents, does not mean they should NOT suffer the consequences of their actions. Obviously, they are not learning how to be respectful, decent kids at home. Someone has to teach them there are consequences for their actions or they will ultimately be worse off. Being kicked out of school would be the best thing to happen to them. Maybe they will finally learn something. We have become too tolerant of this behavior that our moral structure is crumbling around us.

Kicking these kids out of school does teach discipline. It shows the other kids as well as the kids being expelled that there are consequences to their actions. Kids today talk like this because they are part of the internet generation, where trolls are glorified in their eyes because they receive the most attention. They say whatever is the most hurtful because they KNOW nothing will happen to them, because just like a troll on a computer, they don’t have to face any consequences!

I say these bad ass brats should have had their rear ends spanked regularly years ago, and not given everything they ever wanted. These little animals became this way over years of their parents and everyone along the way catering to their every whim. I see plenty of kids who don’t behave this way and they come from homes where the parents are the parents and not following around their little bratty ass kid with stars in their eyes, like they’re the next NFL draft pick. YES, IT IS A RESULT OF THE PARENTS AND THEIR LAZY STYLE OF PARENTING!

“This clip of middle schoolers allegedly abusing a bus monitor is so disgusting, so bothersome that it will leave many wondering what has gone awry in our society.”

Why? Society is not New York. Society is dynamic, fluid and ever changing based on locality. There is no one collective “society”. This is the same fallacy we find in the Left’s claim of “Climate” change. No such thing, in a greater sense. Same here.

Middle schoolers here where I live are polite to a fault and act as if they are living in 1952, including please, thank you’s and “Mr” and “Mrs” to adults. Don’t foist the putrid culture of New York on us in flyover country please.

Well fought sir. It‘s a shame people are in such a hurry to condemn that they don’t take a moment and contemplate what you’re saying. It’s a courtesy I myself like to extend to my opponents, but one which is lacking, sadly, on most political boards these days. What you’ve noted, that I’ve read, is the individualist approach to parenting, which is that each family is different and each child that did this is different, and you started out of the gate saying that the kids in the video need punishment. The knee jerk condemnation you received serves to remind me what I remain libertarian instead of going conservative. Bad kids do not necessarily mean bad parents, and even bad kids can learn from correction and become good. Isn’t that whole point of free will and individualism after all?

You spoke well and I salute you. Slainte.

When I was in Junior High, I had an incident on the school bus which got me into trouble. A kid sitting behind me on the bus, who happened to be the spawn of the Superintendent, thought it was a wise thing to stab me through the seat back into my butt with a compass point. His laughter was interupted by my fist breaking his nose. There was cheering from most on the bus, because the little snot had done it before to others. I was not normally a violent person and it was a “fight or flight” reaction…self preservation instinct or something.
The next day, the bus driver showed me a note from said snot’s mother complaining about the “bully” who attacked her precious child, and demanding that something be done about it. The bus driver told me to watch myself but next time break his arm. Fortunately there was never a next time as he had probably learned a valuable lesson, which was lucky for both of us.
That’s how I learned to deal with a bully situation, and I never had to deal with bullying for the rest of my school career. I had street cred. Everybody saw his nose stuffed with cotton for 2 weeks.
Today, I would probably go to jail.

@MTCOUNTRYGRL – Not all children who live in NY and go to a public school are like the rotten vile children in this video. I’m a fourth-generation New York City resident who went through public elementary, middle, and high school and came out unscathed (and conservative). I loved my schools, and the same can be said for my siblings. We’re lucky to have a strong family who backed us up the entire way and continue to do so. Sure, there were bad students and all of us (me, my siblings, my mom) were taunted at some point, but once those situations were dealt with, we were able to move on. Most of the time, you just keep going about your business, stick with the good crowd, stay out of trouble, and you’re fine. Mind you, my parents and grandmother were always watchful over us and who we associated with. Frankly, some of the foulest mouths I’ve heard while riding on buses are those of private school children! However, that does not mean all of them are bad (my dad is a private school alumnus). Godless? NYC is, after all, the city of churches! What I want to know is why the DRIVER didn’t stop the bus in that video, order those little pieces of vermin to shut up, and then tell their families in person that their child was no longer welcome on the bus and why. If their feelings (if they exist) are hurt, too bad. It’s P.C. that needs to stop. I hope that everything works out for Ms. Klein, and that she doesn’t have to deal with this savage bunch again. Stay strong Ms. Klein!

Thank you, sir. I only try to post honestly here, but am become more and more convinced that The Blaze is attracting not conservative people, but rabid, ultra-conservatives with no allowance for anyone who looks, acts or thinks different than themselves. They seem to want clones of themselves in this world rather than all the different people. They have no tolerance for mistakes (as if they themselves don’t make them!), and they want extreme and many times lethal punishments. I would not be surprised if they could make sport of putting others to death when they felt it appropriate.

Top all this off with a good number of them proclaim themselves to be “christians”! Talk about hypocrisy! I agree with you that calling oneself simply conservative anymore is not a good thing when conservatism is associated with some of these types, thus the reason I call myself a conservative Libertarian. My belief system is solid, but I am quite willing to listen to an opposing side of any argument, contemplate what is being stated, and then either remain of the thought I had on it, or modify my thought based on facts brought to the table. I do not want to believe I’m one of the few who do this; I just haven’t found the others yet.

And, before someone else claims that is a narcissistic statement, it is not. The knee-jerk reaction from so many to my original post proves this.

Hey Scorpion, I disagree about kicking the kids out of school, but I do think revoking their bus privileges for a while would be wholly appropriate. That way getting back and forth to the school would be a hassle to the parents that should be teaching these little snots how to behave in public. Showing the parents exactly why this course of action is being taken, absolutely. When I was a kid about that age, I got to sit in on a video of me misbehaving in a class with my parents in the principal’s office. It was………therapeutic; thing is, I wasn’t normally a hooligan, but that experience further straightened me out. Sometimes things get out of hand with kids that age, but an appropriate punishment should at least give those kids an opportunity to be better before expelling them.

      JHR,
“Hmmm … I dont’ see that. Unless you are not able to see the word “forced”?”

Oh….. So teaching kids about the bible in public schools is the equivalent of putting on a white hood, burning a cross in someone’s front yard in the middle of the night, and possibly lynching someone?

Putting the word ‘forced’ in there doesn’t change the asinine juxtaposition that you made. You are comparing teaching a religion in public schools to racism and the horrific treatment of black people. What a ridiculous comparison!

Saying, “ let me tell you about Jesus” in public school is not even in the same stratosphere as lynching or tar and feathering someone.

“No child in school should be taught the Bible unless they are in a specific school of their own religion.”

That is a red herring. That’s great you believe that and we might even agree on that point. However, the issue is the comparison you made.

      JHR,
I think are a few reasons why reason certain people are having a problem with you.

      1. Just because someone is expelled from school doesn’t mean they can never go to school again. For example, most towns have a public school for kids who are expelled. They attend a public school for troubled kids who exhibit bad behavior. Other kids can attend school in the next town.

Let me also reiterate my other point that it is the educational system coupled with trophy parenting this is causing the kids to behave this way. This not an isolated incident.

      2. You seem to be down playing the actions of these kids. You have made statements like, “You give them a chance just like everyone should be given a chance…..but probably does not mean every child will be. These are still children no matter how hurtful they have been.”

It is one thing for kids to mean mean to one another. It is another issue when kids sadistically taunt and swear at a 70 year women. Think about that for a minute:

Would anyone from your generation have ever threatened, insulted, or used profanities aimed at a grandmother?

If the answer to that question is no, you have to concede that the issue is not simply a few kids who made a mistake and should be punished like they skipped school. The issue is the fundamental break down of the American culture. This is why many people on this board are taking the issue very seriously.

      3. You are constantly insulting Christians and inserting Christianity

They are children of wrath. The very rot in our society is the now day judgement of God on a morally bankrupt debased humanity. Gods word makes it very clear that when we do not retain Him in our knowledge He will give us over to reprobate minds. God has been so much more patient with this society than He was in the days of Noah. His now day judgement and soon coming wrath is and will be totally justified. A depraved society will reap what they sow and suffer the consequences for exchanging the truth of God for a lie. Holy God + vile sinner = depravity = wrath.

Something like 40 hours of cleaning the toilets of a Senior Citizen Center or some other imaginative humiliation. Just an offer, with the threat of the children being held back in the same grade next year. I don’t think we can blame the parents, but they can surely involve them now.

@ JR I understand your concern for the kids. I have it too. However, my response to the concern is quite different. My concern is that if these children and their parents do not endure consequences to these and other similar actions, these and other children like them will get the idea as we have put forth with the rest of society that is some perverted, sick and disgusted way this is ok. I can do what I want and nothing really serious is going to happen to me. It sickens me to see the children of today, who are coached by their parents to be so, have the attitude that “It’s all about me”.
These children were WAY out of line. Where did they learn to put forth such hatred towards another human being? How are they ever going to unlearn it? Their punishment as a minimum must be expulsion for the school district forever. If their parents want to move to some other school district then fine. If that school district will take them in–have at it. If I were the parent of one of these children, they would mow her lawn, wash her car, clean her house, polish her shoes, and do every other imaginable chore that she ever might want until I no longer were their parent. I would have to do this from a hole in ground due to the overwhelming shame I would feel.
If we allow this to be accepted in any way our country is doomed! Financial ruin won’t matter. Oil prices won’t matter. Whatever happens in the world won’t matter.

American society is doomed. This is so repugnant. The laughter speaks volumes, even more so than the statements themselves. If this is who our children are, the Muslim country’s are right, we are indeed the Great Satan. The parents of these children no doubt will deflect the blame and protect their little angels, with excuses like those being forwarded here by some comments. There is no excuse for this behavior, none, zero, zilch; it is inexcusable. Alas, it is the excuses that has got us to this point.

Say all you want about the belts and rulers generations; but if you think the criminals that came up with belts and rulers were nefarious, watch what comes out of the hordes of the excused and special generation.

Saddest part is that they will not be able to trust a single soul, and will be isolated never knowing hard love or true compassion. What we have done is damned this generation; they will never have a single moment of fulfillment and will be completely ignorant as to the reason why.

I am sorry then. However, we do not know (both the original poster or us) whether the children already have a record of behavioral issues. I have a feeling this is not a first offense. It is just the first on camera (which is stupid of the kids).

I am willing to bet these kids have a history of abuse of other kids, teachers and adults in general. As a large person of stature (IE FAT) person myself, I know how kids/teens make fun of people. They look directly at you and lean to their friend/sibling/family and make a comment look at you and laugh. They have no care or concern for the feelings attached to the person.

They do the same to tall and short kids/people. Children are quite mean. My father never had to teach me how to treat people. I had the church, G_d and the Bible for that. It helped me understand how to be an active member of society.

I understand some kids do not have a connection with G_d, but it is their parents responsibility to instill the basics of “treat others as you would expect to be treated.” I am afraid this is but a rabbit hole, and there is no telling how deep it may go.

Throwing them out of school permanently may extreme, but so is their behavior. It could be until the children learn how to behave in public. Or force them to transfer to another school (as the original poster said MY school). Sounds fitting. Now their parents have to send them across county to attend school and lose seeing friends.

These are the future welfare recipients or at worst prison fodder.
Teacher are not allowed to discipline these kids so they get bold and disrespect, or at worst actually assault school teachers , monitors , and drivers.
The feds need to completely out of the equation and return funding to the state and local control, and let the schools decide on how and what will be done instead of the feds.

I mean before the Progressive hijacked the term “Liberal”. For example, look up Classical Liberal. Realize that Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, and most founding fathers were “Liberal” (under the original “classical” sense). This is the same as those who are the Libertarian Party today. Liberal and Libertarian come from the root word of “Liberal”. You sir have brought up some valid points.Kids at this age aren’t a carbon copy of their parents.Outside influences play a much larger role than maybe they should.Contrary to the popular opinion on here ,not all the trouble kids get into, is a reflection of their parents or their parenting skills.
THIS A REFLECTION ON THE KIDS THEMSELVES AND THE CHOICES THEY MADE, NOT THE PARENTS.It requires very stern punishment from the parents. It doesn’t require expulsion as that has the capacity to possibly damage them permanently.Normally I’d say that corporal punishment in this age bracket is not the most appropriate. However in this case I believe it is.I’d say a good doubled back belt to the backsides is in order.Followed by six weeks of grounding[complete]and possibly if possible a public apology to said victim.Preferably on the evening local news.

We require kids to attend school. Some kids don’t even want to attend school. So our punishment is to kick them out of school when they misbehave? Don’t throw me in that briar patch! Schools have lost authority over students because we have lost the ability to discipline them as needed until they conform to the rules. Is that cruel? As adults we must conform to rules. What are we teaching our kids? We do the students a horrible disservice to allow them to think there really are no consequences for their actions. Get the Feds out of schools entirely, and like SCORPION 1 says: return discipline to our schools. Boys respond to physical pain; you people that don‘t believe that probably aren’t one. As young men we need immediate and convincing evidence that whatever we were doing was unacceptable. Line them up, spank their butts with a paddle, and they’ll learn. The dysfunction of the system in place is creating these little disrespectful monsters……or, we can just keep trying the “time out” approach as we have been, and the first “real spanking” they get will be the penal system.

The problem with punks like this is that even if they were to have good parents, those parents aren’t allowed to raise a finger in response to bad behavior like this. I am not advocating child abuse but these children have crossed a line. They know that there are no consequences for this. (at least no consequences that matter to them) When kids treat people like this, they should get smacked right in their nasty little mouths. I‘m sure that a great number of people here know exactly what I’m talking about. Our parents would have kicked our asses up one side of the house and down the other. In a fair and just world, these children would be punished for this. They won’t be though.

“Putting the word ‘forced’ in there doesn’t change the asinine juxtaposition that you made. You are comparing teaching a religion in public schools to racism and the horrific treatment of black people. What a ridiculous comparison!”

That was a bad comparison I made. What I attempted to do was to show how teaching the Bible, attending church, etc., does not necessarily mean the people doing so are good people as the racists and KKK members of past claimed “christianity”. However, I failed in that comparison. Your observation is noted and understood.

“’No child in school should be taught the Bible unless they are in a specific school of their own religion.’”
“That is a red herring. That’s great you believe that and we might even agree on that point. However, the issue is the comparison you made.”

      Noted and agreed.

      “Are you an atheist?”

      No. I am a Christian.

“Let me also reiterate my other point that it is the educational system coupled with trophy parenting this is causing the kids to behave this way. This not an isolated incident.”

The educational system is broken in many ways. I’ve never stated different. Trophy parenting is not a good thing. I’ve never stated different. However, some kids will be bad even though they come from good parents.

“2. You seem to be down playing the actions of these kids. You have made statements like, “You give them a chance just like everyone should be given a chance…..but probably does not mean every child will be. These are still children no matter how hurtful they have been.””

How is giving a child a 2nd chance downplaying what they did? I NEVER stated they should not be punished harshly. People keep reading that into my statement, yet it is not there.

“The issue is the fundamental break down of the American culture. This is why many people on this board are taking the issue very seriously.”

That is a problem, but again, I’ve never denied that issue.

“3. You are constantly insulting Christians and inserting Christianity”

That is an irritating point for me for the people that in one statement claim how we should be Christians, yet they turn around and make statements like they would shoot and kill a child for even stealing a candy bar or ostricize people for their sexual preference, or any one of many other items.

I can do what I want and nothing really serious is going to happen to me.”

We agree on this. We disagre on what that serious punishment is to be.

“It sickens me to see the children of today, who are coached by their parents to be so, have the attitude that “It’s all about me”.”

I still say if it’s their parents who taught them this, then their parents’ parents are also guilty as they must have taught it to their children. Thus, whom do we blame? How about stop blaming and start fixing? Everyone wants to play the blame game. Let’s fix items — we cannot change the past, but we can make the future better.

“These children were WAY out of line. Where did they learn to put forth such hatred towards another human being? How are they ever going to unlearn it?”

Perhaps their parents, or perhaps the media. But, maybe at least some of it is just children being children. Kids make fun of people that are different. Heck, so do adults. I’ll bet you know some idiot adult whom also laughs at people whom are different.

“2) The fact you call people “Ultra-Conservative” makes me wonder what you classify as conservative.”

I classify conservative as pro-life, capitalistic, generous. I classify ultra conservative as to add racist, anti-freedom, holier-than-thou, judgemental to those. Reading the blogs shows these ultra-conservative traits many times by many people in their posts. I’ve heard from those that paint all muslims with the same brush, those that want to classify all blacks as lazy, dangerous and stupid, those that want to jail gay and lesbians for simply living their lives in private, many that advocated being allowed to shoot and kill anyone stealing anything for any reason, even a starving man to feed his family out of desperation or a 12 year old kid in a candy store, and so much more. If you read the stories with open eyes, anyone can see this here. To me, that does not sound very Christian and I doubt Jesus would have done the same.

“You know that the current “Conservative” platform is the old “Liberal” platform, right?”

No, I am not aware of that, but I find this interesting thus I will see what I can find out about it.
You can thank the Communist & Socialist Progressives for muddying the waters on the conservative and liberal labels.

The Rise, Fall, and Renaissance of Classical Liberalism: http://www.fff.org/freedom/0892c.asp

It is some beautiful stuff. Sad that being a liberal has such a negative meaning today, when its definition is opposite what it really means.

As for the racist comments on here? I don’t think they are Ultra-Conservative. They are the branch of David Dukes and other supremacy groups. It is sad that they are classified as even conservative. They are a progressive move to corrupt the image of the conservative party. Most a socialists… You just have to realize that NAZIs were National Socialists. Why do you think the KKK and Neo-NAZIs joined forces?

You have to learn that they are no more “Conservative” than Obama is “Liberal” by true definitions. They are just Nationalist Progressives and Obama (and most Democrats) is a Globalist Progressive. The Nationalist Progressives are a tool to create confusion with the Libertarian and the Occupy movement. Hence, why David Duke has aligned with Occupy. Notice the eerie similar message of the TEA Party and Occupy? The TEA Party, luckily, does not embrace the hate speech. People think they are defeated, but they are hard at work on the grass roots level.

      JHR,
“However, some kids will be bad even though they come from good parents.”

That may be true but but the vast majority of kids who misbehave and get into a lot of trouble come from dysfunctional homes. I can’t remember the exact statistic but something like 80% of people in prison come from broken homes.

Secondly, when you keep stating that some bad kids might have good parents, it sounds like you are down playing the issue and don’t understand or possibly disagree that this an indication that the culture is in big trouble. This is not just an isolated incident. Kids from all over the country are acting like this.

“How is giving a child a 2nd chance downplaying what they did? I NEVER stated they should not be punished harshly. ”

When I was in High school, two girls were sitting in the back of the bus and started smoking. The bus driver turned the bus around and took us back to school. The principal came out and told everyone that we couldn’t get back on the bus until he knew who was smoking. The two girls came forward, they had to stay at school and have their parents pick them up. They couldn’t ride the bus for awhile and received a two week in school suspension.

That is an example of kids being stupid and deserving a second chance. These kids were sadistically harassing and threatening a grandmother on a school bus. You cannot say that is kids being kids. If that were the case you would have seen this kind of behavior in other generations.

This would have been unthinkable for the worst kid in my middle school and high school. It would have never happened. I asked you that very question.

Would anyone from your generation have ever threatened, insulted, or used profanities aimed at a grandmother? You didn’t answer my question.

If the answer is no, this cannot be just kids being kids and you have to concede that the issue is not simply a few kids who made a mistake and should be punished like they skipped school.

Look at how upside down this culture has become. They talked about stabbing her, breaking into her house and stealing things. That is assault and threatening to commit a crime. Yet, the kids are the ones who have police protection because the video went viral. Why are they not being charged with assault and threatening to break into her house?

That is reinforcing the notion that that adults can not touch them no matter what they say or do. When I was in high school I had a friend who worked pretty hard to buy a Mustang. He caught a 13 year-old breaking into his car. My friend literally kicked the crap out of the kid. The kid had to go to the hospital. The police told my friend that he went to far but didn’t change him and the kid was charged with breaking into a car.

If that happened today my friend would be the one who was being charged and the kid who broke into the car would be driving it after his parents filed a law suit.

I am not advocating beating 13 year-olds but certain actions have repercussions to them. We are teaching kids they they can do anything they want, they will not get into trouble for anything and there is nothing an adult can do to stand in their way.

As a conservative Christian, I find most of you are rather rude to JHrusky. He never said he wasn’t against punishing them or letting them get away with what they did. He just said never letting them come back to school was a travesty. And a lot of you jumped down his throat. I do believe in expulsion and that these kids need it.
I have a neighbor (8th grader going into 9th) who was just expelled. He took a knife to school for self defense. He thought he was gonna beat up. I believe that he truly believes he was going to get beat up. I don‘t believe he was going to be but I believe that’s what he thought. Anyway they found the knife he was expelled and summer vacation started early for him and he gets to go on to the 9th grade without repeating a thing! Expulsion is only a punishment if it actually is treated like one. There are many free schools out there that will take in kids who have been expelled. Again I have a friend who was expelled when he was 16. His parents put him in another school for expelled kids. He later dropped out and know works for dell with only a GED. Expulsion doesn’t ruin lives. People ruin their lives.
So we all need to stop bickering over pointless things like punishment for kids we don’t even know and putting words in each others mouths. What these kids did was awful and they do at least need to be banned from the bus and in my opinion much more. However that doesn’t mean we need to stoop to their (the kids in the video) level and bully ea

I don’t doubt this. I, too, think the culture is in big trouble. But, at the same time, I see no useful purpose in painting everyone with the same brush. I certainly believe it’s better for 100 criminals to go free than for one innocent person to be incarcerated. I don’t believe the good of the many outweight the good of the few in any instance. And I am not in any way downplaying the severity of this issue.

“You are equivocating. On one hand you are saying that this a big deal and then you say some of it is kids just being kids. It can’t be a serious issue that is indicative of a cultural decline and kids just being kids at the same time”

Just because it could be kids being kids does not in any way make it less serious, at least in my mind. Kids have always been mean towards each other … I do not think they have towards adults but am unsure on that point. (Not all kids, mind you, but some percentage has). My intent, and I believe my postings, have not in any way meant to downplay this issue. I only believe we must teach these children if teachable, and I believe most are. Explusion only teaches them they lose too much.

A few, yes. And herd mentality would have made a few more brave once it began. Others would have chastised the harrassers for their cruelty.

“If the answer is no, this cannot be just kids being kids and you have to concede that the issue is not simply a few kids who made a mistake and should be punished like they skipped school.”

It‘s not a simple mistake and it’s not a “normal” happening. However, I still do not believe explusion is in order which is exactly what I have stated from the beginning. Explusion around here is permanent, forever, period. Some have claimed it just means a month, a year, some form of limited time. Here that would be suspension, not explusion.

That stated, if this is a repeat offense by these kids, then that may well change. But, the report did NOT state it was a repeat offense and I don’t like assuming.

The other part of my post was they should not be beat. No child deserves to be beat, ever. An adult beating a child is a bully and a bad parent to boot.

I would not object to those being charged with assault. I never discussed that option. We are in agreement on many of these things.

“That is reinforcing the notion that that adults can not touch them no matter what they say or do.”

That’s a tough road to go down. Adults being allowed to hit/beat/harm a minor opens the door for terrible abuse. (Parents should be allowed to spank, however)

“We are teaching kids they they can do anything they want, they will not get into trouble for anything and there is nothing an adult can do to stand in their way.”

And that is something that needs to be fixed, but yet again, beating the child, or taking away his/her chance for an education certainly is not going to make the problem any better nor should it be done to kids. Expel from the bus, perhaps, Suspend from school for a week, a month, perhaps. Expulsion, no.

“Why do you continually stereotype Christians if you are one?”

I stereotype “christians”, not Christians, and I’ve always plainly written it that way to make my point. Christians are those that have accepted Christ as their personal savior and live by the golden rule. “christians” are those that like to brag about their “christianity” and are, essentially, hypocrites and bigots.

In the Old Testament these kids would have been taken outside the town and stoned to death. There were no prisons in Israel. Punishment was immediate. These kids would have set a good example stoned to death for the rest of society. This was God’s plan. As for the parents, Proverbs says the parents do not love their children because they have raised them as bastards and not their own family. The children are bastards of the parents according to Proverbs. Proverbs places the blame on the parents and states they do not really love their children otherwise they would have never raised their children to disrespect and hate. These are not acts of love by the children and not acts that demonstrate training and care by the parents. The parents are sick individuals. This is what God says. I agree.”

Now, if that isn’t as vile, low, idiotic and even sad as they come, I don’t know what is. As I have stated, “christians”, what hypocrites.

      1. You are conflating kids being mean to kids, with kids sadistically tormenting a grandmother.

Did an incident like this happen when you were in middle school or high school?

      2. The notion that this was just kids being kids is contradictory to believing that this is a serious issue. Skipping school would be an example of kids being kids. This isn’t in the same ball park as skipping school.

The notion of group think or good kids following bad kids comes directly from our educational system. Educational bureaucrats have been saying for years that since our economy has become a service economy, functioning within a group is more important than education. The educational system is creating kids like this but we shouldn’t remove the kids from the educational system is another contradictory idea.

If you treat this like the kids cutting a class, what do you think these kids are going to act like when they are 21?

How they found out before we got home is a well hidden secret! I suspect that they had an underground network of other concerned parents who cared enough to watch over all of us.

It wasn’t unusual to get a smack from another parent BEFORE we got home and awaited the wrath of Mom at the door!

If you stepped out of line at a friends or neighbors house, expect a rebuke or swat on the spot, then the call to your folks or they would walk you home and tell the tale to your folks while you would squirm on the side. My mother would spank us with the paddle from the many defunct rubber-ball paddle toys we would get. In our day the thing was cut from hickory. But, once the Chi-coms started peddling their cheap crap knock-offs made of balsa wood my mom would break the paddle over our butts.

So I say this is a conspiracy by the Chi-coms to foment disciplinary problems into our youth through not having an adequate arse spanking paddle. Now people have no freaking idea what they are doing. I hear jag-off liberals berating anyone who might even suggest the use of a paddle like Doctor Dobson…my hero.

Christian values are kaput outside of the churches and we are sliding quickly towards Gomorrah but my family is doing well, in Christ. Other neighboring families I see are in the toilet and it makes me grieve for a completely degenerate culture that equates real mommies and daddies with homosexual daddies on daddies, or mommies on mommies.

Divorce is rampant because of the lousy bums who are sluts humping everything they can get their penises into, and women are dressing like sluts and behaving as avarice driven wenches. If women clamped their legs shut the world would teeter back towards sanity but I am not holding my breath.

I am tired of PC correctness and so I say to you…without Jesus eternal damnation is a for sure reckoning.

Now and then a video post pops up here on the Blaze that has NOTHING to do with politics but just focuses on intances of human decency or lack thereof. This video depicted a tragic situation that both conservatives and liberals alike feel just as disgusted about, and you see it as just another chance to blame liberals for everything from earthquakes to sunspots. If these people were in the Obama choom gang they would be too high from Total Absorption to verbally attack this women. So I doubt that is the case. People like this don’t follow politics or even have a religion. Their parents might follow politics and their parents might drag them to church every now and then. However, this has nothing to do with Politics.

These kids deserve everything they get. They really were trying to hurt this women and any good person would of stood up for her while stopping this. I grew up in NY and this goes on all the time. If your different than other kids of your race you are teased to extreme levels. Their needs to be harsh punishments that directly effect the parents of these children if not properly addressed.

Example: School in the summer that the parents pay extra for while the kids spend the school year doing community services. Some form of redemption should be offered but I don’t have an answer for that.

Specifically the politics of the left that have been infecting our country for waaaaaaaaaaaay too long now.

That would NEVER……repeat……NEVER have happened when I was in junior high.

Do you wonder why they even need a freaking monitor on a school bus full of 11-13 year olds?

You are the expert because apparently Politics play a role here. What does being conservative mean? What does being liberal mean? You apparently don’t have a clue which is the problem.

A true conservative believes in conserving the constitution. Notice that period at the end of the sentence? That is because Conservatism was meant to mean conserving the principles of the constitution PERIOD.

I would argue to say that they are exercising their right to Free speech which is held sacred by conservatives mostly. Liberals are willing to bend that rule or break it if they want their way.

So that brings up the definition of a liberal. Someone who takes the constitution in a liberal light feeling that it is just a guideline that is outdated and needs to be changed.

Your argument is based on thin air. You randomly associate the incident with liberalism, but you don’t mention a word about how the two are connected.
These kids are just extreme examples of classic bullies. They have a total lack of empathy which could either have to do with not growing up in a loving environment, which I find most likely, or with some brain dysfunction.
Whatever the root cause of their behavior, they should indeed be punished and forced to take responsibility for their actions. On a gut level I would love to see them thrown in the stocks on the town square with rotten vegetables thrown at them.
That’s obviously not an option in this day and age, but the next best thing would be to fine their parents, to compensate their victim for the trauma they inflicted and to force them to do community service like washing public toilets, and finally, to subject them to a psychological evaluation, not to have them get off scot-free, but in order to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms leading to bullying. Perhaps one should even discuss whether not intervening when witnessing the harassment of a fellow human being should be punishable as well. I’m not in favor of that last measure, but discussing the matter would at least increase public awareness.

Finally, the least constructive approach of all is to randomly blame people of opposing political or religious views for all that is wrong in society. Which is what you’re doing

Ha ha, am I supposed to be impressed? Wow BILLY has read a book, by one of those doctor types no less!
Jokes aside, I googled the author and a review of the book popped up by a person “Ionia” who is not too fond of liberals herself, and yet she gave the book one measly star. The other two reviews were gushingly positive and could’ve been written by you and your ilk with your over-simplified black/white viewpoint. They lacked all credibility in other words.

But back to the first review. Here’s an excerpt:

“The book does validate some of the negative aspects of liberalism, which I can agree with, but at the other spectrum, the author doesn’t seem to acknowledge that everything is indeed a two-way street, and there does in fact exist a gross deal of injustice and unfairness in American society that no amount of armchair psychology can ever really come to terms with or begin to deal with.

This author strikes me as the liberal type himself — the ivory tower pseudo-intellectual who probably has never known a day of suffering in his life or had to ever starve or really bust his *ss to get where he is today. Who is he to preach?

While I do not condone either extreme liberalism or extreme conservatism, I think the answer to these problems existing today is a more balanced approach. Like I said, it’s a two-way street in life, and you can’t blame everything on one group of people or another.”

This makes me want to cry. That‘s someone’s grandmother or mother. I can’t imagine someone talking to my mother that way. The kids are “getting disciplinary action.” The principal will bring them in, sit them down, make them apologize to the woman, and the kids will blow it off immediately. Meanwhile, that woman will be tormented by those comments the rest of her life. That kind of teasing doesn’t go away when it stops being said. It makes me very very sad and very angry. Not that anyone cares what I think.

After all, we can‘t have the little darlings growing up thinking that they’re capable of doing something hurtful and downright mean, can we? Yes this is a shame. Plain and simple these kids need to understand that you don’t treat anyone that way. Not even your greatest enemy.

The sad thing is just a few weeks ago a parent took it upon herself to discipline a child who was Bullying her daughter and she ends up in Jail. So no one on her can say that they would take the place of this women and do anything different. Had she done anything physically the stories would be geared towards ruining this woman’s reputation.

So here comes the question what do we do? Well that is a good question because apparently nothing is the only thing that can keep your name clear. Example: George Zimmerman. I think he was just supposed to let Trayvon martin bash his head into the pavement and suffer permanent brain damage.

I think Mrs. Klein kinda looks like Obama’s grandma, and I think we need a press conference from the president to confirm this. Online petition?

@Junior Totally! Wings and Pizza in Pennsylvania blows compared to Ponty’s or Marks. I’m from the worst of the worst! Brighton! Although, if we didn’t move I would have went to East which I doubt would be any better.. Yet, one of the nicest most well adjusted kids I met was from there.. He just wasn’t like suburban kids around Rochester. Same was true for a school of the Arts kid.. When I found myself outside of Rochester in an “outside rochester area” summer camp and in college, I had trouble making sense of the way kids interacted with each other in less egotistical ways…Most of the kids were from NYC and much more mature.. If they were jerks, it didn’t even compare to kids I knew from the Roc.. All we ever did back in Rochester was talk sh….t and think we were the sh…t. Western NY is one of the meanest anti-social places in the country… Half my friends at Brighton ended up on Heroin by graduation and are some of biggest A…holes I know.. Even A…holes I’ve come to know elsewhere exude much more decency, some are even involved in charity work. You‘d think because we were suburbanites we’d be cheery happy respectful kids from good homes but Rochester suburbs aren’t like that…It’s a mental and physical battleground. No one supported each other unless it was one group fighting against another… extremely cliquey…

It’s disgusting and if my kids EVER did anything like that, they‘d be begging for the school district or police to handle the situatio because they wouldn’t like what would happen at home. I agree, it‘s the parents’ responsibility…just the other day speaking to my husband about our daughter’s friends from the neighborhood (in 1st grade) and how they sometimes act here and talk to us. He said he has absolutely no problem disciplining other people‘s kids when they’re here as he would expect the parents in our neighborhood to do the same with our girls when necessary. That’s how it was back in the day, but now people are so worried about offending someone else. Sorry, our house, our rules. Maybe if these kids had any discipline in their lives they’d think twice about how they acted towards other adults, or anyone for that matter.

Yea I was going to say that about Rochester kids too, but anyone not originally from NY would not understand. The kids who are raised their are typically kids of successful businessmen and women from NYC. Probably unable to discipline their child until after rush hour(5-6pm), and that leaves 2 hours for those kids to get in all sorts of trouble.

How about making school days longer. Benefits everyone since teachers are paid salary. Just doesn’t benefit the teachers but after all they get the summer off(which in this case it would make more sense to be paid for that time on tax money if it is because they work overtime hours). Some state should try it out and be a model for the rest.

Maybe a period of the day where kids do work that would normally be Homework. Problem is no one works 8-2:30 and stay at home parents aren’t realistic for most with the way the economy is going.

I said it’s wrong to BEAT a child. I never said not to punish, not to spank, not to ground or anything else. If you want to brag about your dad beating you with a belt, well, that’s your right. I would never brag about any person who thought it good to beat a child. Since you advocate beating children, too, your beatings apparently took root in your life as they usually do. Sad, so very sad.

This is one of many reasons that I pity parents who find the need to be their childrens‘ ’bestest friends’ instead of being their parents. This is the result of no parental oversight and no discipline. A disgusting, immoral generation that is dead inside. Usually if there is an attendant or monitor it means a “special needs bus”. The thing is some of the “special needs kids” are ones with behavior problems and don’t get the same treatment as a regular student. If a regular kid does this to the driver they get written up on a citation, in my company three citations get them removed from the bus for a certain amount of time, but with special needs it takes several times and is left up to the school principal to decide if they get removed from the bus.

And, this is why we teachers NEED parents to be involved at their kid’s schools! Everybody like to talk $hit about how bad teachers are; well here ya go! See how YOUR kids behave??? These are YOUR children! YOUR ‘little angels” that sit there and cry to you in Parent/Teacher conferences because we’re “MEAN” to them!!! By “mean” I am speaking about making them follow simple rules and behave themselves
I teach 8th grade and I CHALLENGE any one of you to go to your child’s school and volunteer in a classroom for 1 HOUR; I won’t even make you stay the entire day, because YOU CAN’T HANDLE IT!
Ask yourselves this: Why was there a little old lady, whose kids probably graduated College years ago, being a bus monitor? Why wasn’t there a big, strong, MAN there. men? Do you think these kids would have pulled that with some big, buff, 250 lb man sitting there? Nope. Because those kids are worthless COWARDS!
But, let me tell you, they respond positively when there is someone that puts a little healthy fear into them and shows them how a MAN behaves. Most of these kids don’t even have a father figure, so we men who teach almost always end up as proxy Dads. I have had a large number of my students ask me to adopt them. So, men, if you aren‘t involved in your child’s life: What the heck?!?
How many of you complaining here are involved in your kid’s lives?

It does happen, I am an attendant on a school bus. I had two grade school kids considered special needs due to behavior problems, they think they have the right to tell anyone to shut up and even me. The attendants are just as much an authority on the bus as a driver. No child has the right to tell any adult to shut up or as in this case even worse. Parents however too often are treating the kids, each other and even anyone else like neighbors this way so that is what they learn. However because of the no discipline rules these days the kids can do whatever they want and nothing happens. Parents teach your kids to respect others, also teach them the importance of being quiet in any vehicle. The drivers need to be able to concentrate on their driving in order to get you safely to and from home.

What do you expect? Heaven forbid we teach the kids any kind of morality or ethics in our schools. We could “damage” them.

When there are no standards to live by we better we willing to accept whatever we get because without high moral standards the results we get will be the bottom of the barrel as exemplified in the video. There is no respect for authority or property being taught in schools and sadly many times in the home. The family unit is broken in many instances with there not being any male who is taking responsibility for what is taking place in the home.

I agree. I’m not religious but anyone who has read the Ten Commandments knows that they are basic tenets of civil humanity and common sense. Treat others as you would want to be treated, don’t kill anyone, don’t steal, don’t cheat on your spouse, have some self respect and respect for others, etc. Mentioning the Ten Commandments will only bring out the religion haters. Just recite the basic meanings of said Commandments to be able to get through to thick heads. Sometimes a change in semantics is all it takes to teach some people because they are so hung up on hating religion they will use that as an excuse to behave badly. So sad and pathetic.

Well, to be fair, when we had god in our schools – we also had slavery and a denial of basic human rights for anyone who wasn’t a white male. That’s not to say religious teaching promoted these behaviors, it just highlights the fallacy of your argument. Teaching chrisitianity in schools certainly didn’t prevent unthinkable travesties from becoming the norm in American society before.

I agree … some of the worst acting and mean kids I have seen came from actually good, Christian families whose parents are well-respected. The kids are 100% anytime their parents are around, but get them with their little friends and look out!

School is not the place to teach God because so many people have so many different views on God. However, teaching “the Golden Rule” and other such things is good and should be done. Teaching kids to respect the next persons beliefs and feelings are also good to do. That is NOT saying that anyone has a freedom FROM religion, because I do not believe they do. But it is teaching that there is a freedom OF religion, and part of that freedom is not teaching religion in school because there are just far too many of them.

All that stated, even non-religious people can understand, teach and practice “the golden rule” thus the claim that the reason this happens today is due to lack of religion in school does not appear to have legs to walk.

Meeting at school with the parents to dole out the punishment. Cleaning the restrooms wearing t-shirts stating “I”m learning to be respectful of my elders” while they are on a week suspension. @ cloth stews I agree, plus, the next time the derelects want on the bus, they get to apologize to the bus monitor and ask their permission to board, if it’s not genuine, in the adults on board (both of them) have the school boards’ blessing to disallow them on. Parents brought in to transport until they learn to ask forgiveness. Rights and Priveleges are 2 different things. This is AFTER the suspension, of course. The juveniles don’t get told about the apology thing until they turn up to ride, as well… On a side note, I sure wouldn’t want to have to ride that bus as a kid with anything which gave the derelects something to pick on. Parents could be brought in to explain their little bundle of joys’ behavior to the entire school board, and acceptable fix to them, as well.

I taught junior high school before I moved up to the senior high to finish my teaching career. My junior high colleagues and I maintained that we could teach kids for a month or so when they came in as 7th graders and accurately predict which ones would end up in jail. We were rarely wrong. Most of it is the fault of failed parenting, but the schools must take part of the blame too. If you teach children that whatever they do no one is allowed to touch them, and that they will always get a “do-over” for 12 years of public education, and then, at the age of 18, you declare them legal adults and toss them out into the real world, many are either going to get beaten up on a regular basis by their peers, be unemployable, or end up in prison. Because the real world cannot and does not afford a whole lot of “do-overs” and bosses do not keep screw-ups employed.

Reply to Kinnison: My first and second grade colleagues could pretty much call it in primary school. You couldn’t get through to some kids and their parents. I remember teaching twin boys and trying to reason with them. All I got was “He was messing with me.” They already had been taught to seek revenge. Neither graduated. I know one ended up in state custody during high school grades. Actually the drug dealers did better. They wanted to be able to sell their drugs so they didn’t want to cause trouble at school (or on the bus). We didn’t give up trying to make a difference. We always hoped there was a chance someone would beat the odds.
