‘Do We Want To Become A Socialist Country?’ Sen. Coburn Predicts Full Repeal In Senate

Do We Want To Become A Socialist Country? Sen. Coburn Predicts Full Repeal In SenateFollowing Chief Justice John Roberts’ decision to vote to uphold President Obama’s healthcare law as constitutional, The Blaze caught up with Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), a staunch opponent of the bill, to get his take on the historic ruling.

“What kind of long-term impact will this have on the healthcare industry and on private doctors?” The Blaze asked.

“Well, I don’t think it’s going to have that much because my hope is that the American people are going to replace the president and give the conservatives control of Congress and I think we’ll repeal it,” the senator responded.

“When 60 percent of America, and the middle voters, and the independents, and moderates (over 50 percent of them) are absolutely against this bill, they’re going to come out and vote. And they’re going to vote against the people that rammed this thing through, regardless of what the Supreme Court said,” he added.

Indeed, considering that the Romney campaign, which promises to repeal “Obamacare,” has raised over $4.3 million since the court’s ruling, Sen. Coburn’s claim that an overwhelming number of Americans oppose the law may be right on the mark.

“The Supreme Court was kinda’ cute,” the senator continued, “they protected the Commerce Clause and used the taxing power of Congress to allow this to go forward.”

“But I think this gives us a great opportunity to say ‘do we want to go the way of Greece and France and do we want to become a socialist country?’” he asked

“That’s what this bill does.”

@ Avenger “This it the beauty of Roberts’ decision. By making Obamatax a tax it cannot be filibustered, a majority vote in both houses will carry the repeal. And then Barack Obama will of course veto it and have to tell Mitt Romney and the entire nation why he didn’t stop the biggest tax hike on the middle class in US history that is already raising their insurance premiums.
Obama will bludgeoned with this for the next 5 months.”

The beauty of the decision? Are you serious? The beauty would have been if Roberts sided with the other 4 members of the court who wanted to throw the whole thing out.

You probably didn’t notice – but the government is screaming – IT’S A PENALTY – NOT A TAX !!! – Why ??? Because the government has no right under the Constitution to apply this tax. The Constitution very clearly states that ALL direct taxes must be based on apportionment and this is a direct tax which means that it must be paid by everyone – Opps – Only people displaying BAD BEHAVIOR by not buying health insurance are charged the tax – so it doesn’t measure up under apportionment. The 16th ammendment allows congress the right to assess a tax based on incomes without regard for apportionment…….but this tax has no regard for income !!! So the government has no right anywhere in the Constitution to apply this tax! — Funny that SCOTUS didn‘t realize that when they said it’s JUST A TAX !!!

It doesnt matter what the constitution says about how taxes are enacted – the supreme court just sanctioned it. Unfortunately, that is how things go in this country.

This decision will go down as one of the worst for freedom in the history of this country. They just gave the government taxing authority in areas they would have never dreamed. They can do ANYTHING – as long as it is part of a tax.

An answer to HEFFE44 – last night on a conference call , twice it was reported we only need 5l votes, not the 60 . So there is a very good chance the repeal could work…….
I am sure we can take Obama out with his radical healthcare bill. We can even overrule the Supreme Court – after all it IS THE WILL OF THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE THAT RULES !!!!!!!!!

Time is short, b ut we CAN AND WILL do it !!!!!!!!!!! The people are awake – Obama has been so radical and “bullish” – the people woke up to see just what he is doing and where he is leading us!!!!
He can’t be giving all the “freebies”, spending money like it grows on trees, taking lavish vacations, killing good paying jobs, telling lies, one after another .
Lets get to work – wake up your friends, neighbors- make sure everyone is registered to vote.
We can do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We MUST do it to save our freedom and constitution – we are in the crosshairs of destruction and the fema camps !!!!!!!!!!!

you can’t rely on the GOP they will wimp out like they always do. the only way to turn this around is the proverbial “pitchforks in the streets” If you think any of these people have your best interest at heart then you are foolish. This will not be repealed. None of these people that are supposedly on the side of conservatism have the balls to do anything. The only time they will take action, real action, is when they are awakened from their beds in DC to millions upon millions of angry pitchfork carrying Americans in the streets

Haha, FEMA camps? I am just so happy this law is now in effect because I am sick and tired of my tax money going to pay for FREELOADERS who go to the emergency room for their health care. The rest of us have to pay higher premiums and payments to doctors etc. because of these lazy freeloaders. They don’t buy insurance and then when they get sick, we have to pay for it. Enough already! I pay my own way in life and it costs me tons more money for healthcare because of these selfish people. If this is what it takes to get them to pay their fair share, then so be it.

Whys is this so hard to understand? My seven yr old gets it!

In MA there was only about 1% of the population who could afford Healthcare Ins. and decided not to get it – they get FINED or taxed if you want!

The poor who don’t qualify for Medicaid can get a $4K subsidy to pay for a much reduced & competitive State Exchange plan. In fact Vermont’s Gov was on TV today saying that they will use the 80/20 Fed/State subsidy to set up a Single Payer – Medicare for All Exchange!

If your Company provides Insurance – you get to keep it! Cobum says that Companies will stick everyone on the Exchange… REALLY?? Does anyone really thing that these Companies will refuse the Fed Subsidy? Right! If anyone needs a bridge let me know…

Also Coburn forgot to add that the ACA has forced Big Insurance to send back rebates for Premium $$ not spent on YOUR Healthcare. They MUST spend 80% of your Premium on your Care. No more Bg Insurance Advertising, CEO Bonuses & Lobbying “expenses” with your Premiums!

You would think by now that the “socialism” argument has been used up.

Like our socialist roads, parks, fire depts, police depts, schools, state universities, libraries, veteran hospitals, public transportation, and public utilities… we use some form of socialism every single day of our lives and the Republic has been going strong since Franklin instituted the First Public Library in 1790! Damn those Socialist Founders!

Wake – you said “roads, parks, fire depts, police depts, schools, state universities, libraries, veteran hospitals, public transportation, and public utilities“ are ”Socialized”. That is a broad interpretation. You’ll note that almost everything you mentioned is LOCAL. The farther the decision gets from the source of the money the worse it gets. And health care is the size of all of these rolled into one!

And it should also be pointed out that many municipalities and states are getting pushed to the brink by police and fire salaries. Is the VA our template for health care? Public transportation . . . a wasteland of subsidy. State Universities, also a wasteland of Union waste, and out of control spending.

@wake_up 07 below: It amazes me sometimes that the majority of people, conservative or liberal fail to grasp the basic concept of government and it’s sole and true function.
James Madison, Father of the U.S. Constitution, illustrated “federalism” in Federalist No. 45 (9th para):
The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people.

One might make a case for the Federal interstate road system as being involved in preparation for war as Eisenhower stated, but roads in general fall under supervision/provision of the individual states. Police depts, fire departments, public transportation etc all fall under state and local discression.

As to Franklin and the origional library…………those books were privately purchased by Franklin et al.

No, the socialism argument has not been used up. The states can do what they want. The Federal Government has (at least for now) very limited powers.

Check this last set of statistics!!

The percentage of each past president’s cabinet who had worked in the
private business sector prior to their appointment to the cabinet.
You know what the private business sector is — a real-life business, not a
government job. Here are the percentages.

    T. Roosevelt … 38%
    Taft ……………40%
    Wilson ……. 52%
    Harding ……..49%
    Coolidge ….. 48%
    Hoover …….. 42%
    F. Roosevelt.. 50%
    Truman …….. 50%
    Eisenhower…. 57%
    Kennedy …… 30%
    Johnson …… 47%
    Nixon ……….. 53%
    Ford …………. 42%
    Carter ………. 32%
    Reagan …….. 56%
    GH Bush ….. 51%
    Clinton ………39%
    GW Bush ….. 55%
    Obama ……… 8%

This helps to explain this administration: only 8% of them have ever worked in private business!

That’s right! Only eight percent — the least, by far, of the last 19 presidents!
And these people are trying to tell our big corporations how to run their business?
How can the president of a major nation and society, the one with the most successful economic
system in world history, stand and talk about business when he’s never worked for one?
Or about jobs when he has never really had one? And when it’s the same for 92% of his senior staff closest advisers?
They’ve spent most of their time in academia, government and/or no

A recent “Investor’s Business Daily” article provided very interesting
statistics from a survey by the United Nations International Health

Percentage of men and women who survived a cancer five years after diagnosis:

    U.S. 65%
    England 46%

Percentage of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received treatment
    within six months:

    U.S. 93%
    England 15%
    Canada 43%

Percentage of seniors needing hip replacement who received it within six months:

    U.S. 90%
    England 15%
    Canada 43%

Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month:

    U.S. 77%
    England 40%
    Canada 43%

Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million people:

    U.S. 71
    England 14
    Canada 18

And now for the last statistic: National Health Insurance?
    U.S. NO

There is a difference between a bill that takes AWAY a right and a bill that estabishes a new law or bureaucracy. In the Citizens United decision, there is nothing congress can do, because the Supreme Court ruled that campaign contributions are covered under the freedom of speech. In the Obamacare ruling, the Supreme Court ruled that the bill does not violate the constitution. It did not rule that the bill it self was PROTECTED by the constitution. In fact in the decision itself Roberts wrote that the way to get rid of this law was through elections.

the only way that this country reverses direction now is to get out the proverbial pitchfork. There are too many takers now. That is just what is needed for socialism/Marxism/communism to take hold. For over 4 decades now the government has had control what what children learn in school and the communists in charge of the Department of Education have relentlessly pounded their socialist/communist/marxist values into the heads of young Americans. Those children now have the vote and this country is in real trouble. These people that can vote have been taught that their government will provide everything for them from cradle to grave because that is what they have been taught that their government is supposed to do. It will been nearly impossible to turn this around at the ballot box. “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants” Thomas Jefferson 1787

I am pretty sure Republicans will pick up the seat for Montana. It is not looking good for Tester! Obamacare is extremely unpopular here and Obama‘s approval rate is in the 30’s. There are adds running day and night how Tester votes 95 percent with Obama. And particularly that he voted for Obamacare and then against repealing it. He is currently down by double digits.

Can someone elaborate on a veto-proof Senate? Is it 2/3 can override a president’s veto? And thus if the House and Senate are party controlled, the president has no necessary final power to strike down a bill? Did the Senate not do this to Reagan on the Big Dig bill (which turned out in fact to be totally corrupt as Reagan predicted when he vetoed the bill).

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

    Winston Churchill

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money.”
    ― Alexis de Tocqueville

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. ― Alexis de Tocqueville

I mean – there are some REAL needs in Healthcare reform. But FIRST we need to weed out the cheats – the crooks – the lazy – the ILLEGAL – the able to afford it – the able to work – Gilligan – the Skipper too – The Millionaire – and his wife – the movie star – the professor and Mary Anne – wait … what…

ANYWAY – come up with an ALTERNATIVE — don’t just kill the bill without some OTHER PLAN.

Health care is actually VERY easy to reform. We need to go BACK not forward. People used to pay cash for healthcare and were not dying in the streets. What changed? First of all law suits! Easy fix – tort reform, loser pays, caps on fees and pain and suffering awards. Second, we got involved with third party payment. A third party is insurance companies and the government! When someone else picks up the bill, you stop caring about cost, you stop caring about taking care of yourself (obesity, smoking, unprotected sex, drug use); after all you aren’t paying for it. And health care declines because the person paying for it is not receiving the care, thus does not care if the services are good. We could set up a safety net (at the state level) for those with severe disabilities and pre-existing conditions. And the rest of us could have catastrophic coverage and health savings accounts. Go back to ownership of our healthcare. When you strip out the cost of malpractice insurance and the 6 extra employees needed to bill third parties, health care is actually reasonable. I pay cash and thus get a discount. Doctors visits cost $45, vaccines $14.13. x-rays $100, stiches $75. Health care is not expenses for most people, but the cost of the bureaucracy is what makes it expensive. Also, for the poor on Medicaid, we could issue debit cards (so no more billing) and give cash insentives if they keep the cost down.

@MTCountryGirl: if you‘re able to pay cash then I’m happy for you but healthcare is qualitatively different than it was in the past & it’s not going to change. people live longer because small problems are caught sooner. we live better because new treatments make it possible: Flannery O’Connor died of lupus @ 39. I have lupus & because of new treatment might live to be 100. but that new treatment is more expensive: each round of chemo is $30,000. I can afford it only because I pay for premium healthcare.

I think you’re right, we do need to own our own health care. we need to accept it’s like rent, something we will need at some point for some reason. tort reform, removing duplicate (or triplicate or more) regulations; making health insurance portable so if you’re willing to pay the bill, you can take your insurance w/ you, making it possible to buy insurance across state lines, reforming insurance companies so their foolish regulations & rules stop raising the cost of medicine, addressing corruption & fraud as well as many other changes would drive down the cost of healthcare. but health insurance is important. we can’t know the future: the drunk driver who kills himself but leaves one wounded, the unknown disease that becomes active due to an unknown trigger, the cancer that pops up even when one has lived a healthy life, the congenital heart problem that shows up when you’re 30. we can‘t go back cause medicine won’t go back & let’s face it, who wants to die e

This is good, but the cat is already out of the bag. SCOTUS has ruled that the Federal Government can compel anyone to do anything merely by adding an IRS penalty to it, calling it a tax. In fact, that is EXACTLY what Justice Ginsberg wrote in her ruling. Freedom and liberty are gone. They have been replaced by the concept of penalties and and calling it “freedumb”.

The only correct solution is a constitutional amendment.

The passing of Obamacare is perhaps the greatest gift to the American People. Here’s why:

The only way now to keep this thing from being implemented is to throw out the dems in the house, senate, and White House. That means, the people get their turn to voice what they think of this ‘law.’ With their vote, they can elect a majority of Republicans in both houses and give them the White House. This, and this alone will send the message that America DOES NOT WANT this and that we are proving it with our vote.

If we don’t do this we are basically resigning America to doom.

This it the beauty of Roberts’ decision.
Obama will bludgeoned with this for the next 5 months.
