Do You Have a Ford Fusion? It Could be Getting Recalled

Ford is recalling more than 128,000 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans from the 2010 and 2011 model years because, apparently, the wheels can fall off the cars.
Federal regulators say that bolts holding the wheels on can fracture, causing a vibration. If the vibration is ignored, the wheels can separate from the car.
“The problems may be caused by steel wheel mounting pads or rear brake discs that have been incorrectly built and cannot properly support the wheel,” Ford said.
Ford says they will notify owners. Dealers will replace lug nuts on all four wheels, inspect rear-wheel disc brake surfaces, and replace them as necessary for some of the sedans with the model years 2010 and 2011, the agency said.
“Affected customers can continue to drive their vehicles,” said Susan Krusel, a spokeswoman for Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford. “We are not aware of any accidents or injuries.”
The recall affects only cars with 17-inch steel wheels built from April 1, 2009 through April 30, 2009, and from Dec. 1, 2009 through Nov. 13, 2010.
The cars were built at the Hermosillo stamping and assembly plant in Mexico from April 2009 and from December 2009 through November 13, 2010, Reuters reports. Cars with alloy wheels are not affected.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating Jan. 21, according to a recent Bloomberg report. The agency at the time was aware of “29 owner complaints, including four instances in which wheels had fallen off,” and 128 warranty claims Ford had paid for fractured wheel studs.
The recall is expected to begin around Jan. 24.

Posted on December 11, 2011 at 1:11pmSadly, this is why American cars no longer have any business. I have a Honda, which I love, and is cheaper, more powerful, bigger, and more comfortable than the chrysler equivalent. Ford and GM no longer offer anything in that market because their attempts failed long ago. Piece of advice: try building your cars north of the Mexican border!

Posted on December 11, 2011 at 8:46amDid Ford let Pedro design the friggin‘ wheels on their car’s too? It’s bad enough that they are assembled in that s- hole of a country, Maybe the wheels are made out of cocaine, and this is just another way that our “friends” south of the border can mule their drugs into the US.

Posted on December 11, 2011 at 6:51amIntuition is a wonderful thing……………..I was stuck with those steel wheels on my Fusion because I ordered a 6 speed manual trans and SE model. Before the car arrived, I had ordered aluminum 17″ rims to replace the stockers, the steel rims were on the car 2 days!
BTW, the steel rim was Ford’s attempt to “dummy” down the content of the car like the Accord, Camry, Altima and Malibu. My thinking was why would I want to increase the unsprung weight of my car by 5 lbs in each corner? The rims cost $400. I just sold the take off steels, covers, and lugs for $300. Wheel upgrade……..$100!!!!!!!
BTW, this FUSION with 2.5L 4 and MT has been delivering 35 MPG average commuting, with O defects,

Report Post »your chevy volt ignites into a ball of flames in your garage
or your wheels pass you on the interstate.
I’d say Ford is still the lesser of the evils.
I have a a F 150 and Toyota truck, love them both.
I would never consider GM at this point.

Posted on December 11, 2011 at 2:54amThe Volt’s battery only exploded when it was in a crash. During a test. So unless you have an accident on the way home from work, I don’t think it will explode in your garage. :)
And Clue #1: The cars were made in Mexico. Apparently, they’re good pickers, but not great mechanics. I grew up in a town with an area that housed only latinos, and this 20-30 years ago. I’ve seen what they do to their cars…

Report Post »Not only was this the car of the year. It’s good vehicle, made by a company that did not take a bail out.
Ford hasn’t had a major media problem since the Explorer. Go easy folks.

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 3:36pmI completely agree with Impudence. I have been a Chevy guy all my life but when they took bailout money, I decided to look elsewhere. I looked at Ford and saw the 2012 Focus and decided to take a chance. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The Focus delivers close to 41 mpg for me (the SE model with the SFE package) and has been running well since I bought it in June.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 7:22pmSounds like they got bad lug nuts …And of course ..Modern day business …Nobody checked…And by that I mean no desksquarter got off their ass and checked …..See today you need to have the college degree to be the desksquarter .Most times what that implies today is that you don’t have the street smarts to actually check what the hell you bought ..In this case before they go on the car. O but the company would say look we have final assembly inspection…Right there … the Frito bandito at the end of the line putting the approved final inspected sticker on …And I am still waiting for the desksquarter at Heinz to come buy their product containing plastic parts back …

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 5:22pmRemember way back, when things were made here, and the things that were made here, for the most part were of high quality? You couldn’t give me one of these modern cars, because they are made of cr@p, and contain too many government mandated items.
Report Post »When the time came to replace my former vehicle, I decided to buy an old jeep and rebuild it. I now have quality transportation, made from real metal, which contains no airbags, catalytic converters, crumple zones, computers, cheap plastic or any of the other things found on new cars today….and I couldn’t be happier. Oh and btw, if some of Obamas “friends” decide to detonate that EMP bomb over the US that everyone has been talking about, my car will still be running.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 5:07pmYikes! I hope they do get this word out before there are ANY accidents! While reading the story, I pictured such an event happening on a busy highway–scary thought! I hope all people who own these cars hear about this before January 24. It just may save lives–literally! (Why would they wait to begin this recall???)
