Does Maher Believe Bin Laden is Becoming Non-Violent?

In his October 8 episode of “Real Time,” host Bill Maher used a recent global warming quote from Osama Bin Laden to suggest that even the world’s number one terrorist “gets” climate change while Republicans don’t. But lost in the coverage of the comment is Maher’s introduction of the quote:

He put out a tape last week, and uh there was nothing about violence or attacking America — see Lindsay Lohan, people can change.

Maher went on to read Bin Laden’s quote: “‘Speaking about climate change is not a matter of intellectual luxury — the phenomenon is an actual fact. All the industrialized countries, especially the big ones, bear the responsibility for testimony global warming crisis.’”

Does Maher believe Bin Laden is turning the page and moving on to a new chapter in his life? Possibly. He later seems to suggest that Bin Laden was doing a favor to Pakistan, simply bringing media coverage to an area ignored by the world and decimated by flooding:

Let just say this: he made this statement because Pakistan – this really didn’t make the papers, but Pakistan had a giant flood this year. And it is the sixth biggest country in the world, and a fifth of it was underwater and 21 million people were displaced. And it was worse than the tsunami.

So is Bin Laden trading his bombs for benevolence? The news seems to suggest no. Just last week, Bin Laden’s terrorist organization al Qaeda was found to be behind a plot to bomb cities in Europe that caused the U.S. to issue travel alerts and put European anti-terror agencies on guard.

Contrary to Maher’s suggestion, then, Bin Laden doesn’t appear to be embracing “change.” Well, maybe climate change.

    He makes these outrageous statements because he knows it will get a overblown reaction. I think he believes about half of what he says and if he gets a reaction from something outrageous the he expands and digs it if further. He is no different than the trolls who post here.

    Granted he is comedy at its lowest form, why is he stretching comedy to politics and then using a KNOWN terrorist to make a “so-called” point against Republicans? Bill Maher is useless and should end up on toilet paper somewhere since the s@#t he is peddling will smell like what we all wipe up.

    Honestly people, just listen to those who either served our country or ran a successful business to get a proper perspective as to the solutions we could be using instead of Obamanomics. Global warming is a scam as we have no proven data we are causing it. Also, the 30′s were at record high temperatures before we could consume fossil fuels at the rate we do now. SCAM! I guess we should blame the last ice age on Republicans also.

    I am conservative who likes to laugh. I watch Maher all the time. Bill is very funny and mostly fair and balanced. No he does not think Laden is gone non violent. His point was even Laden recognizes global warming.
