Man Charged With Stealing $9.5 Million Worth of Federal Reserve Source CodeThis week, Bo Zhang, a man who was a third-party contract programmer working for the Federal Reserve of New York, was charged with stealing $9.5 million worth of source code that prosecutors said, according to Bloomberg, “track[s] the billions of dollars that are electronically transferred every day in the U.S.’s general ledger.”

Zhang, who was arrested Wednesday, was charged with one count of stealing government property.

The Treasury spokesperson Matt Anderson is reported as saying that no data, personal information or transactions were compromised in the source code theft. Where the issue may get sticky is over the prosecutors accused reasoning for Zhang‘s theft and Zhang’s citizenship. Bloomberg reports the New York federal prosecutors as stating that Zhang took the code for “private use [...] in the event that he lost his job.” Joseph Grob, Zhang’s lawyer, had no comment over whether Zhang was a naturalized U.S. citizen or still a citizen of China, according to Bloomberg. Bloomberg also states that Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Weimin said he had no knowledge of the case.

According to Reuters, Zhang worked for an unnamed technology consulting firm and was brought on to develop unrelated source code for the New York Federal Reserve. Reuters reports that Zhang claimed to have lost a thumb drive with the code for the Government-wide Accounting and Reporting Program in July 2011, but when questioned by authorities in August, admitted to taking it.

Zhang will appear in court again on Feb. 17.

    How about the CHAIRMAN of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland being the Chair and CEO of MESSER CONSTRUCTION? They have received $319,459,248.00 in federal Prime Awards. Notice that you don’t hear about that when one of their buildings collapses? YOU KNOW THAT IS A UNION company, so why no outrage here? You guessed it. MORE CRONY CAPITALSIM AND UNION CONTROL….

    The real story is not Zhang, source code, the federal reserve… the REAL STORY is the “unnamed technology consulting firm.”

    Government (federal, state, local), utility companies, banks, big corporations, health insurers have been outsourcing their software development for years. The “unnamed technology consulting firms” use offshore resources who have no allegiance to the US or to the companies they serve. In most instances, when they’re testing the software, they have access to copies of production (real) databases. Fast forward to my conclusion: we’re sitting ducks.

    These were once American jobs.

    BTW, Mr. Zhang was likely communiting. Guess who pays for the travel expenses?!?… the client. If the client is government, we pay.

    I could put a name to the unnamed technology consulting firm, but I won’t. It is easy enough to figure out. I hope an investigative journalist will take a look at the REAL STORY.

      You hit the nail on the head. Great project for the Blaze journalists. Fits right in with Glenn’s story about the 2008 stock market crash being economic terrorism. If someone at the Blaze could update this story and name the ‘unamed’ firm, I would be very interested.

    Years ago the gov’t loosened their background check standards because they were having trouble finding people that could pass by the old standards. Does that say something about our society!! So does this really surprise anybody. The inmates are in charge now.

    Despite Obama’s dubious claim of birth in HI, his Kenyan father precludes his eligibility! TheBlaze must report the truth about Obama’s ineligibility and alleged identity fraud.

    Our constitution does in fact logically define a natural born citizen!

    The Constitution, Art. 2, Sec. 1, states “No person except a natural born citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible … .”

    Exempting a “citizen” from being a “natural born citizen” (NBC) proves they aren’t equal, or no exemption was needed. If they are not equal, then a NBC must be either less than or greater than a citizen. Obviously a NBC isn’t less than a citizen. Therefore a NBC must be greater than a citizen. The pertinent minimal requirement for citizenship at the time was one born in the US to a US citizen parent, leaving just one possibility. Only US birth to US citizen parents (plural) is greater!

    The Supreme Court agreed in Minor v. Happersett, 1874. “The Court held that Minor was a member of the “class” of persons who were natural born citizens. They defined this class as those born in the US to “parents” (plural) who were citizens.” – Leo Donofrio, JD.

    questionable citizen…..hey blaze, i know you are afraid to question dear leaders backround but check this………..obama records which have not been released…….passport, punahou school, occidental college, columbia university(weird how not one person recalls ever seeing barry there isnt it?)columbia thesis, harvard law school, harvard law review articles, illinois state bar assoc records, illinois state senate records and schedules(said to be lost-how convenient), medical records, obama dunham marriage license and divorce records, adoption records, and of course the real long form certificate of live birth.
