Dogs Bite Off Three of Owner’s Toes

In journalism, there’s a saying that the more interesting story is “man bites dog” instead of “dog bites man.” After reading this story, you might disagree.
A man was taken to the hospital Thursday after police say his two dogs gnawed off three of his left toes:
KSWB reports:
Police received an emergency call just before 5:30 a.m. from the man’s caretaker. The caller said he found the victim lying in bed amid blood-soaked sheets at their home in the 200 block of West California Street in Mission Hills. The caretaker then discovered that his roommate was missing three left toes and that one of the men’s two small dogs had blood on its snout, SDPD spokeswoman Andra Brown said.
“Pulled off the sheets and looked at his foot, and I dialed 911,” said caretaker George Chilson.
Paramedics took the man, who seemed confused about how he had suffered the injuries, to a hospital. The victim — whose right leg and one of the toes on his left foot had been previously amputated — suffers from neuropathy, a type of nerve damage that has left him with no feeling in his remaining foot, the roommate told police.
The dogs were not euthanized and are back home with their owner. The man‘s caretaker believes the animals were trying to clean a wound on the man’s foot but got carried away.
“Occasionally he can get a knick on his foot, and I think what happened is they found a scab on his toe and began licking and chewing,” he said.

Posted on February 11, 2011 at 1:46pmI have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels just like the pictures and there is no way in the world that they would actually bite someone – however they (espically the females) are very concerned about any injury so they could have licked the wound to try to make it better. But they don’t bite or growl or in any way show anger to their masters.

Report Post »Seriously though. I love my 8 rescue doggies like they are my own children. But hey, they start biting off my toes or anything else for that matter, then somebodies getting hurt. I’ll put a whole new meaning to “Getting sent to the dog house”.

Posted on February 11, 2011 at 11:31amThis is one example of the kind of care our elderly are getting. You cannot trust dogs because they are animals, they are not people and it makes no difference how you treat them and what kind of clothes and shoes you put on them they are not people and you cannot trust them around the disabled or small children,no matter what kind they are.
Report Post »Its so sad that this happened but there is more of this kind of thing happening that anyone knows. If you are responsible for someone and there are dogs in the home please dont use them to babysit anyone that cant take care of themselves.Dogs are animals, treat them like the animals they are and no one else will have to suffer from this kind of tragedy.

Posted on February 11, 2011 at 6:55pmHarvey, I‘m guessing you don’t like dogs! Lol
Dogs have been known to save peoples lives, despite there being a risk to their own. This is documented over and over again. A dog will forgive you no matter what, and is more loyal than most people. They are not called, “mankinds best friend” for nothing sir, I assure you.

Posted on February 11, 2011 at 11:32amThe dude probably had infection in his toes, and that’s why the “kids” helped him out!! It’s not really that unusual for dogs to do that kind of behavior when they live in a pack in the wild, and this guy is the leader of their pack…they were helping. I have a lot of dogs, they clean each others ears, teeth, lick scrapes etc.

Give dogs a break! Yes, they may eat their own vomit…but, most of them prefer to eat cat poop.

Posted on February 12, 2011 at 1:36amI take offense to what haysusislord says. Dogs are not disgusting or vile! They have personalities and BOUNDLESS loyalty. Your dog never lies to you. Dogs are discerning. At my house, Haysusislord would not be allowed through the door by my dogs. They know the heart of a man. I‘m thinking dogs don’t like haysusislord. Don‘t believe it’s because of the way he looks or speaks. Dogs know anger and negativity when they meet it. I refuse to refer to this person as Jesus is Lord.
