Donald Rumsfeld Gives Explosive Interview to Al Jazeera: ‘This is Worthless’

Donald Rumsfeld Gives Explosive Interview to Al Jazeera: This is WorthlessIn an explosive interview with Al Jazeera’s English Washington bureau chief Abderrahim Foukara, former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld blasted the journalist for “haranguing” and refused to answer his questions — accusing Foukara of having it in his “being” to be “disrespectful.”

The heated exchange erupted when the topic came to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Foukara asked Rumsfeld whether he felt responsible for the deaths of “innocent Iraqis” because, according to Foukara, the Bush administration “didn’t secure the borders” of the country and sent in too few troops.

“You keep making assertions that are fundamentally false,” Rumseld blasted. “Correct me,” Foukara replied.

That’s when the situation escalated. Huffington Post reports:

Rumsfeld insisted that all of the troop levels had been highly vetted on multiple levels. “Does that make the numbers right?” Foukara interjected.

“Do you want to yell or do you want an interview?” Rumsfeld shot back. “I’m having an interview, and I’m actually enjoying this interview,” Foukara said, almost cheerfully. “You have a choice,” Rumsfeld said. “You’re being true to form.”

Foukara attempted to ask his question again. He wondered if Rumsfeld felt responsibility for “tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis killed by the coalition,“ as well as by the ”criminals” who Rumsfeld had blamed for much of the violence in the country. Rumsfeld didn’t even attempt to answer the question. He accused Foukara of asking him “pejorative” questions, and told him he though it was in his “being” and “nature” to be disrespectful.”

“This is not about me,” Foukara said. “If you want to attack me personally, fine, but give me the answer to the question.”

“Why should I do everything you want and you won’t do anything I want?” Rumsfeld asked.

“Because I’m the interviewer.” Foukara said.

In the end, Rumsfeld stated, “this is worthless, this is not an interview – you’re haranguing.”

hmm nothing wrong with rumsfeld speaking there. I think he is one of a few great americans who i enjoy hearing speak because of the length of his career and his viewpoint. I can disagree with him on some points perhaps but nothing ever struck me as being a warmonger. thats the libs saying that.

most of you comment and have never read about the man besides some comments from someone else about him. the true shame of this is i have to live in a country full of you buffoons.

this is why we are not a democracy. a fools vote is not worth a wise mans vote.

Donald Rumsfeld is a real American Hero and that POS from Al Jazeera was trying to embarrass him on camera. Nobody likes it when innocents lose their lives in a war, and nobody wants that to happen, but the Gods honest truth is… many bad and unintended things happen in war. War is not pretty and was never meant to be. We as Americans only look bad because we have gotten good at engaging in war, but have become lousy at winning them.
There should be only one over-riding concern when we go to war, if we have made the decision that it is in Americas best interest to do so…. We Win!

September 10th, 2001 Rummy ADMITS 2.3 TRILLION DOLLARS missing from the Pentagon.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjcRywb6Zf4
He was one of the ones who helped Saddam Hussein get into power, then funded, and equipped him to offset the balance of power with Iran.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaP7ZrmkcuU
He lies through his teeth as naturally as he breathes. He is a traitor, and a war criminal. He helped perpetuate the lies that Iraq was involved in 9/11, and now millions are dead because of it. 10′s of thousands of our soldiers are maimed and scarred for life, and another few thousand are dead.
He needs to be brought to justice, tried in a court of law, and then punished accordingly for treason.
Iraq was no threat, and was NEVER a threat. They had been being bombed since the first gulf attack, (notice I say attack because war was never officially, and legally declared) under a “no fly zone”, and embargo that was also responsible for 100′s of thousands of deaths. They had 1960′s Russian tanks, and some other worthless junk that couldn’t hold a candle to US firepower. Much less reach our shores with it.
Rummy was part of PNAC. Project for a new American Century which was the brainchild of the attacks on 9/11, that gave them the “new Pearl Harbor” that was needed to infuriate the American public to go along with an invasion, to further consolidate natural resources (oil), and strategic footholds. F-Him, and anyone who thinks he is a “patriot.”

After having been Iraq, 2004-2005, I can honestly say that we did not have enough troops on the ground at the time but, that being said, hind sight is 20-20. Our intent was noble and good and am sorry innocent people lost their lives but to try and twist things around to say that we were at fault for the insurgency killing innocent people is just another propaganda ploy by the other side.

What we are seeing here is the Left’s 2012 campaign strategy. More and more Bush bashing / Republican bashing interviews and stories are being presented to advance the dusty old tyranical goals of Marx and Alynsky. As usual, they cannot win by stating their actual positions, so the useful idiot advocates in the media zombie up and follow propaganda procedure. It don’t think that “Blame Bush 2012” will cut it though. Even people who don‘t know what’s going on are starting to realize that SOME THING‘s going on here and it isn’t good. Not good at all.

      Why?

Because he is a criminal. This is audacious as an accused criminal attempting to lambast the judge or prosecutor while he is being questioned or testifying in court. It’s an interview, not a PR stunt to give you more prestige, Rumsfeld. Answer the damn question. This isn’t “So when did you stop beating your wife?” caliber. This is a legitimate inquiry.

And yes, I’m quite aware of what he did to the “Kurds.” He took helicopters that were sold to him by US, rigged them with spray equipment, and gassed them with chemicals that were sold to him by Britain, and US intended for use on the Iranians.
Here’s some brief history of how he came into power. This has been confirmed by more than one source.

It was laundered through Dov Zakheim (who played both sides of the fence at the Pentagon and establishing a supply and demand center of worldwide terrorism, including the Muslim Brotherhood. Zakheim is a character equal in influence to George Soros, except Zakheim’s is providing material & weapons development and technology to the useful muslim idiots (Islamofascists) including Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

There’s no chance George Bush was not complicit to Zakheim and the progressive efforts to destabilize the world through weapons and military training. Follow the money, and you will find the culprits. Who had the most to gain from an attack on 9/11?
If 15 of the 19 supposed hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, then why weren’t THEY retaliated against? Why were the Bin Laden family members allowed to fly out of the country the next day when all other traffic was grounded.
Who would gain the most by getting full use of our military to attack their enemies?
Here is a list, which I‘m sure you’ll disagree with.
      http://whodidit.org/cocon.html
If you’ve done any research on membership of PNAC, The Carlyle Group, The CFR, Tri-Lateral Commission, World Bank, IMF, you’ll see the same characters. If you’ve researched UN Agenda 21, Bilderberg, Rockefeller, Rothschild, and AIPAC, and you will see who benefited. Money through foreign aid is funneled through AIPAC back into the coffers of their loyal politicians, who have sold out their allegiance.
If you’ve researched who owns and controls almost ALL forms of the media and banking institutions around the world, then you’ll see who benefited. If you see how these media outlets, and their lackeys have caused you to believe that mooslims are under your bed, and that Sharia law is suddenly going to take this country by storm, you will see the men behind the curtain.
They need a constant perceived external threat to keep you scared and therefore controlled.

And when we do so under approval of congress we should unlease the gates of hell on our enemy. Never mind if you think we should involve ourselves via the military or not. Just in a general rule on how we rage wars is immoral to us and our enemy. We have the power to use great force and in so doing make wars short. But we send thousands of troops and spend billions of dollars we don’t even have. We are afraid to show our true might because of what the world community might say. War isn’t clean. @13th Imam: so it’s only criminal to kill Americans? It’s not criminal to kill tens, if not hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Iraq? You have to be consistent in your disdain for criminals if that’s what it really is, but I suspect you‘re just another partisan hack who doesn’t really care about right vs. wrong. The Fast and Furious program was wrong, and the invasion of Iraq was wrong. The death toll from each is unacceptable. So if the Fast and Furious program is a criminal act that resulted in some deaths of Americans, what is the invasion and occupation of Iraq? Many, many, many more people died as a result of that.

      Really, innocents were killed? Really?
First, name a war where there weren’t civilian casualties. You can’t.
Second, just because there is a civilian casualty does not imply there was a war crime.
Third, Al Qaeda had fun blowing up civilians in the Souqs with car bombs. They purposefully targeted civilians intent. They also would kidnap, rob & kill traveling Iraqi civilians and then sell their cars in Jordan to fund their Jihad.
Fourth, America started downsizing bombs (opposite of WWII) so they could hit their target & not hit civilians.
Fifth Americans went out on patrols with Iraqis. That increase American casualties but it limited civilian casualties.
Sixth Americans had to have eyes on a target before calling for artillery or air support. That limits casualties.
Seventh Americans tried to limit casualties by their convoy operations. Wave off, then shot across the bow (in front of the vehicle). It put them at greater risk from car bombs but it limited civilian casualties.
Al Qaeda would target columns of pilgrims on a bridge (south of Baghdad or one of the largest mosques south of Baghdad. Many of the civilians deaths are at the feet of Al Qaeda & Iran who supplied IEDs.

You’re either radical Muslim, a leftist or you don’t know much.

@Walkabout: Just because civilian deaths happen in every war doesn’t mean that its acceptable, and certainly not acceptable for an unnecessary war. Al Qaeda did not exist in Iraq before we invaded, so your assertion that “they killed ‘em too, so it’s ok for us to do it” is bogus. All of those points you laid out don’t mitigate the fact that the invasion of Iraq was a horrible mistake that has cost countless lives, of soldiers and innocent civilians. Donald Rumsfeld was instrumental in that decision to go to war, he was instrumental in the battle plans, and was instrumental in the gross negligence surrounding troop levels and supplies. He bears a large responsibility for all the deaths that occurred, and are still occurring, because of the US occupation of Iraq. He is a traitor to this country. If you actually cared about the debt and deficit, and actually cared about human life, you would see that he has betrayed our country and should be prosecuted for his actions. And as far I’m concerned, Obama is no better (or worse) than Bush and Co. for his actions regarding the wars in the Middle East. No true conservative can possibly support the Iraq war, especially now that we have the benefit of hindsight. If you do, then you’re obviously just a partisan hack.

I never said Civilian deaths in War are acceptable. I said they happen. There is a big difference. You were implying that since there are oodles & oodles of civilian deaths that Bush & Company must be guilty of war Crimes. That does not hold. The U.S. Went out of our way to minimize civilian casualties. I gave you numerous examples of the U.S. working to avoid casualties. Instead of refuting those point by point you went to a boiler plate denunciation.

I know what civilian casualties are. Both I & my spouse have had family members subjected to carpet bombing.

There is a big difference between carpet bombing & smart bombs.

Read “Plan of Attack” by Woodward for reference. Or any other source on the invasion. Rumsfeld kept the US troops involved with the invasion way below the recommendations of all his advisors, as well as Colin Powel, and lacked any substantive plan for US forces once Bagdad was taken. Rumsfeld wasn’t stupid, and did a phenomenal job organizing the logistics of the invasion itself as well as the secrecy. But he failed miserably on the overall plan and number of troops, as history has shown. The result was chaos, and an infusion of terrorists from other countries, and the best recruiting tool for terrorists in history. And +5000 Americans dead, and 10 times that wounded and disfigured (and no WMD by the way).

But he was a little flustered by this guy calling him out on it, and tried to refocus the interview on the interviewer and say he was asking the wrong questions. Sorry Rumsfeld, the guy was only asking the questions history will ask, and you failed the interview. If you want a softball interview, stick with FOX.

jzs you assume the infusion of terrorists wasnt accounted for ? you think the administration and all those military people thought that they would take baghdad and everyone was just going to sit around ?

i think many have a movie version of what war is. you say 5000 dead americans we all know we dont want to lose soldiers lives. but we were going to war and you are going to lose lives.

you know they run numbers on that right ? and if you think going to war is necessary then its going to cost lives. hate to break it to you but 5000 is nothing to take over a country. read what happened to the romans when they fought hannibal. the romans lost 70,000 in one battle in one day in a field read ww2 battles and so on . that is loses that is war. we ousted a dictator and are rebuilding that country and that cost us 5000 lives. crazy good stat if you can take the emotion out of it and look at it.

and let me ask you something simple – they had no wmd right ?

if you were lets say a drug dealer and the government said they were going to raid your house in 8 months, do you think you would hang on to all your drugs at your house ? or you think you might move those out of there.

i assume youre no idiot so you would move them, good answer.

His answer to the interviewer should have been a simple “no”. In that same amount of time Hussain would have killed as many or more of his innocent people. Problem with Rummy is he has been in positions power most of his life and of late he surrounds himself with people that agree with him. What was he thinking granting that interview with al-Jazeera. If he didn;t have nukes he would not be much of a counter weight to Iran with a larger population & with nukes.

The administration used the best intelligence we had and made the best decisions we could in a time of war. Edward Kennedy threatened everything & tried to get Congress to vote against the Iraq War. He did this TWICE. He did it during the FIRST GULF WAR & the IRAQ WAR.

Having such high profile, vocal opposition to the war caused Turkey to not let us bring an infantry division into Turkey & attack from the north. Splitting the Iraqi forces would have shortened the initial phase of the war & probably led to the earlier capture of Saddam.

To me the WAR CRIMINAL is Senator Edward KENNEDY.

In the perfect world, Barry and Holder go down for fast and furious and the TRUE Americans take back the WH. Its a disgrace what kind of slime they have in there.

When you wrestle with the pigs, you get fleas, or something like that. Why would you take that interview, was Micheal Moore busy?

Rumsfeld should have throttled this a-hole.
But he never should have granted the interview.

Like being interviewed by the enemy is EVER a good idea. How foolish of him to do it. Disappointing too.
