Police Arrest Suspect in Matthew Owens Beatdown Case

Police have made an arrest in the case of Matthew Owens, who was recently attacked by a group of roughly 20 African-American adults with metal pipes and paint cans in a seemingly racially-motivated assault.

Reports say Owens “fussed” at a group of children playing basketball in the street before the attack, and after the children left “a group of adults returned, armed with everything but the kitchen sink.”  He has been in critical condition ever since.

Owens’ sister and other eyewitness neighbors claim that at least one of the assailants remarked, “Now that’s justice for Trayvon,” while walking away.

Now, Fox News reports: “Terry Rawls, 44, has been arrested and was charged with first-degree assault. Rawls and victim Matthew Owens have had an ongoing feud dating back to 2009, according to Chad Tucker, a spokesman for the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office.”

However, the police are not investigating the matter as a hate crime.

Owens’ brother Lloyd was interviewed on the Todd Schnitt’s radio show, where explained:”I just wish the [Trayvon Martin] part was left out of this.”

“Nobody, race, nothing, should have to deal with that.  15-20 people beat a man like that?  I don’t care what they are, you know?  I don‘t care what they’ve done to somebody, if they’ve said something to somebody.  You know, nothing’s been said, I don’t know what has happened, what has caused this, but nobody, no matter what color you are, gender, anything, should go through that.”

When asked what “kind of guy” Matthew is, Lloyd responded that he is kind and he is “there for people.”  The day he was attacked, Lloyd noted, Matthew was at his sister’s house helping her with yard work.

And what is Matthew Owens saying from the hospital bed, according to his brother Lloyd?   Mainly, he pleas: “Don’t let me die.”

    GOOD BEGINNING…….now only 19 or so more to go!!! They should hunt down EVERY SINGLE BEING that partook in this heinous crime!!!!!!! EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!!!!!

      I was on a local media site today .. they are trying to turn it around and make the ‘white guy” not the victim but the problem. They showed a mug shot of the victim and had all kinds of details about a man in a coma .. but they won’t show a photo of Trayvon over 12 years old … MSM IS RACIST!

      One of the more problematic portions of this whole story is that once again, the eyewitnesses were more concerned with getting out their cellphones to take a video rather than either intervening or calling 911. If the eyewitnesses were close enough to hear what was said, why did they just stand by and do nothing?

      What is really at play here is exactly what progressives in our government have been working on for years. They have passed law after law to instill enough fear in the average citizen that they won’t go and help a man being beaten by 20 people. Those with guns are afraid to use them because the laws will make their life miserable if they do anything in defense of the attacked and happen to kill or injure someone. Hell, they don’t even need a gun.. they can get sued or jailed for hurting one of the aggressors with baseball bat. It is so bad that you find yourself asking whether you are breaking the law before you actually step out to help. How ridiculous is that? Today, they actually have to write books like “How to own a gun and Stay out of jail” (John Machtinger) so that gun owners have a fighting chance. Really, all it does is scare you more. If you wonder why people are slow to act and step in; the reason is our government. It shouldn’t be a factor, but reality bites.

      Did you read the story? The only witness listed was Owens’ sister. What is she going to do against 20 irrational people with pipes?

      Sorry, but your rant is illogical. A video might identify and/or convict someone. Interference could get a person killed. And, the cops are only good at investigating crimes, not so good at preventing them.

      The DOJ is in FL waiting for Zimmermann to be acquitted so they can charge him with a hate crime. They are suing the states for enforcing federal immigration laws and for requiring that you show ID in order to vote.
      They are not interested in this case because the perps are all black and blacks are no capable of committing hate crimes.
      The DOJ is busy participating in the cover up of “Fast and Furious”, and promoting the the participants. The killing of a Federal Agent is one of those crimes they do not want to enforce as it was done with the approval of Holdup.
      Your DOJ is very busy and cannot be bothered with minor cases like this.

      I live in a county that has the highest rate of violent crimes in the state. That same county also has the highest number of Handgun Carry Permits!!! The tide will turn soon, and the thugs will be on the run, bullets chasing them all the way back to the ‘hood.

    The Blacks are above the law, they are protected by Mr. Holder, ABC NBC and CBS should be sued for the false reporting that has incited the Blacks to act this way, and make them feel as though it is right. They also have a special word that only they can use.

    Most of these black thug types (and that’s most of the young blacks, male and female) will never be socialized according to minimum Western standards. Looting, wolfpacking with deadly assault attempts, welfare mooching and every type of crime imaginable is a way of life for them — in the U.S. and every country they occupy.

    They destroy one U.S. city after another and the MSM pretends it’s not happening. But ask any media member, and you’ll find that they live as far away from any blacks as possible.

    Their next big move will be to loot every U.S. store/business as soon as the case against Zimmerman is thrown out. They couldn’t care less about the thug martin, they just want the free loot.

      @Tightroper2 Unfortunately, I think all you say is true. Look at the cities that have been under democratic rule for years, and you will see the state of these cities and the terrible crime in them. Oh, we have to be so careful what we say and to be so politically correct. That‘s why you won’t see anyone charged with a hate crime unless they are white. I have seen this happening a generation ago and personally have been a victim of it back then. I see no way out unless we the people start to show up in numbers where it counts and demand the trash be thrown out.

    There were twenty attackers involved and they arrest just one.
    Before it’s over with, the media will spin the entire attack into “it‘s the victim’s fault”.

    The police are not even investigating it as a Black on White hate crime, even though one of the attackers yelled it’s “justice for Trayvon”.
    If the colors were reversed, twenty Whites would have been arrested, charged with attempted murder, and a hate crime.

    I can’t believe, that not a single relative or neighbor had a gun that day, to fight off the attackers. Where are all the guns, that the Government says citizens have?

    Why just one man? The report was that approximayely 20 adults came for him, couldn’t the spineless police locate and of the other 19, or perhaps they didn’t cant to find anyone else? It’s a shame the Justice Department in Mobile, Alabama can’t see this as a Hate Crime!

    And once again, the sole purpose behind this? Because they can get away with it. They “all look a like”, there were too many of them to decribe correctly even a few, they’ll alibi each other.

    In other words…they are nothing nut low life cowards who got their thrill knowing they can get away with it.

    “What? You mean some white dude provided the smallest amount of provocation imaginable (parenting some kids that were not his because the actual parents don’t care and are never around…except to count heads and compare it to the amount they just got for food stamps and welfare) and I can be part of a gang that can’t be stopped, identified, or prosecuted in reality? And we can beat him all we want before running back to our section 8 housing and filling out more government aid forms? Heck…I’m all in!”

    I think back to my thoughts that Reginald Denny was a hero for being able to forgive his attackers…now I wish he’d have put them away for life.

    I wonder…has anyone done follow up stories on those attackers to see if they took that ultimate display of “turn the other cheek” and gone on to do something positive with their lives? I suspect they are hanging on street corners in clothes 4 sizes too big, doo rags and talking away in ebonics.

    I seen this on the news it was upsetting. I got so upset. Lord forbid you ask someone to please keep the noise down. But before you ask them to keep it down and call it a night,makesure their not black. All these hate crimes in 2 wks. Check out the one that happened to a little boy in KC,MO. He was set on fire. Suffered massive damaged. I cried so hard. I am still sick about it and outraged.

      1) You‘re fiscally conservative and reject spending our grandkid’s future
      2) You believe in earning what you get, and NOT in getting what you didn’t earn
      3) You don’t expect to “start at the top” and don’t mind earning your way up the ladder
      the years
      4) You believe everyone actually IS equal and that quotas and set-asides for “protected groups”

      Yes, the progressives are trying to divide us into ethnic/tribal voting blocs and/or at least marginalize whites. But the cookie may not crumb how they think. If they get their way & things collapse, at the very worst I will side with the Hispanics against you know which group.

      So certain people can have Jesse Jackson, Sharpton, Obama Rev. Wright, Cornell West, Farahkhan, Leonard Jeffries & all the rest. But it will cost them, if they start violence.

    Of course it was a HATE CRIME! What else would you call it? The authorities in that town, county, and state are cowards, not to scream HATE CRIME. This is another reason to have “Stand your ground”. The law seems to be either cowardly to stand up, or they are protecting those who did this. What is it going to take?

    NOT investigating as a HATE crime! Are you kidding me? What will it take to be regarded as a HATE crime? The justice system at every level is now afraid of the black population for fear of starting a race war. Disgraceful and pitiful–I had little confidence in “justice for all”, now I have NONE!

    Hmm….no hate crime here, according to the police. Let’s just cut to the truth and say that white people are being attacked and killed in this country. From Arizona and the mentally challenged guy being killed, to the child in Kansas being set on fire, to this latest incident, if the police and local governments don’t take this seriously, Obama and his Communist buddies will get the race war they want.

      I heard about this via internet. And watched on Glen Becks was so upset. Then I heard of another attack in KC,MO. A 13 yr. old boy walking home from school was jumped by two older black males on his porch they grabbed him as he opened his front door. They dragged him off of the porch and dumped gasoline on him and set him on fire. His mom came home later to smell flesh. He was burnt so bad that he has lost some of his sight and suffered damaged to his lungs. They said this is for Trayvon!. Sick people, truly evil. I hope they catch them and they deserve the death penalty. This little boy did nothing but be white. Blacks like this are the ones that keep their race down and stereotyped. Their feeding the hate. I am so discusted.

      No but God is on the seen – This crime and the others like it was cause by the Toxic words of Obama, Farrakhan, Jackson, Sharpton and the Liberal State Run Media – their words are still floating out into space and the blood of this victim and others are on their hands – just as if they beat the man themselves.

      Take it a step further – say you vote for Obama in the next election – and more innocent lives are lost or beat up because of the those toxic words of these hate baiters – the blood will be on every person that voted for Obama hands as well!

      I never follow man – I always follow God – Obama can’t get you in to Eternity – but he can certainly get you knocked out of it!

      I try to follow God and the teachings of Christ…but I admit to my failure to meet their wishes. I’ve been called the most rational, level headed person alive by many friends…I don’t always say whay others want to hear, but the words I say are a sort of math…if you look at it coldly and with a rational mind set…it all adds up. I’ve frequently predicted the future due to being able to look at the whole picture and coldly extrapolate out the logical next step of the person, party, country, etc.

      God/Christ tells me and my heart that all mankind are my brothers and I should love and respect them…I can’t do that anymore. I can no longer greet or shake hands with, or offer a sincere smile to those of color. Even long time aquaintences I’ve enjoyed talking with, I’ve come to see as a ticking time bomb or a raised from a puppy pit bull…just waiting to go off or attack the moment I say something they view as wrong or a challenge to their race. I don’t mean calling them names or insulting their people/race…believing one race superior or another inferior is not something that lives within me…but if you try having a mature conversation armed with facts/statistics…you see the outrage and anger coming through as they listen.

      You can find as much fault with white people…but at least they are not looking for a reason to attack me other than simple crime which can be avoided by the use of common sense.

      I pray to God I felt different…but I don’
