Cheer up!
A Harvard psychiatrist says at least a quarter of psychiatric patients don’t actually have anything wrong with them – emotionally that is. Nope, she says those people just have physical illnesses, like cancer, that bring them down.
Barbara Schildkrout’s new book called Unmasking Psychological Symptoms, aims to help patients off of their therapist‘s couch and into the doctor’s office.
Just like depression might be caused (or worsened) by the conditions above, if you’re anxious you may have an overactive thyroid, if you’re irritable you might have a brain injury, if you’re hallucinating you might have epilepsy or, you know, a drug problem, and if you’re psychotic, it’s probably just from a venereal disease, not because of something awful that happened to you in your formative years. See, crazy, you really have nothing to worry about at all.

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 10:30pmThis article is bullsh*t. If something is wrong with you, regardless what it is, you’re going to go to a medical dr. first and let them run all sorts of tests so they can tell you they have no clue. Then you go to the shrink who can diagnose you in 5 minutes or less. Sorry, but I do have an anxiety disorder and have had it for 20 years. I’ve been thru the bullsh*t already and know the process. And I take my “candy” every day. :) I guess Obama care doesn’t cover psychological disorders. Why is this even news worthy?

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 6:40pmPeople who become psychiatrist have serious problems of their own, then try to tell others how to handle theirs. Never could figure this out. They sure push a bunch of pills tho. Not sure I’d trust them, personally. Best to go to a qualified minister if you have problems that need attention.
Report Post »But I can agree that many mental problems could come from medical problems.

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 9:06amThis is actually one of the reasons why psychiatrists are also doctors: They can (or should be able to) see which symptoms are treatable by medicines and which require analysis and “couch time.”

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 3:32amHistory Lesson on Your Social Security Card
Just in case some of you didn’t know this.
It’s easy to check out, if you don’t believe it. Be sure and show it to your family
and friends. They need a little history lesson on what‘s what and it doesn’t matter
whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts.
Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and
card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the
United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the
message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION, was removed.
An old Social Security card with the “NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION” message.

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be
Completely voluntary,
No longer Voluntary
2.) That the participants would only have to pay
1% of the first $1,400 of their annual
Incomes into the Program,
Now 7.65%
