Doomsday Prophet Harold Camping Speaks Out: ‘A Really Tough Weekend’

Doomsday Prophet Harold Camping Speaks Out: A Really Tough Weekend

Harold Camping

Harold Camping, the 89-year-old doomsday prophet who predicted the world would end this past Saturday, has been located and has issued a few words on his failed foresight. Understandably, he sounds a little depressed.

“It has been a really tough weekend,” Camping told the San Francisco Chronicle.

“I’m looking for answers,” he added, explaining that he’s spending time in frequent prayer and consultations with friends.

In the end, however, he’s being tight-lipped. “But now I have nothing else to say,” he said, closing his door on the Chronicle. “I’ll be back to work Monday and will say more then.”

You can bet there will be a lot of people listening.

Meanwhile, one of Camping’s disciples did open up about the world not coming to an end. In Times Square on Saturday Robert Fitzpatrick, the New York man who spent his life savings to advertise doomsday, was timidly defensive as people mobbed him, taunted him, and angrily demanded answers — especially about all those who spent money broadcasting the predictions.

“He’s a good Bible Teacher,” Fitzpatrick said of Camping. “I verified his calculations.”

When asked about what happened (or didn’t happen), he simply responded, “I don’t understand:”

How many people’s lives have been destroyed by this person? Every time I hear people start saying that it is the end of times I remember that no man will know the time of the rapture. This supposed religious leader let his personal ego get in the way of what the scriptures says. The people who believed in him should have remembered that and they would have saved themselves from losing allot of money not to mention humiliation. They should have believed in the written word and not this man.

You can’t place all the blame on Camping for the loss of finances for his followers, If the members of his congregation had a personal relationship with Christ and knew the scriptures they would have dismissed him in 1994. Maybe it’s a wake up call for his followers to not rely on a man but rather on God.

Camping: “I know the day and the hour Jesus will come back”

Jesus: “No man knows the day nor the hour.”

      Score:
      Jesus: 2
      Camping: 0

Jesus said that the Son of Man will come when you don’t think He will. What part of that does Camping not understand? Does Camping think that applies to everyone except him? Will Camping learn this time, or is he going to take a third guess, impoverish even more people and be wrong all over again?

James 3:1 “Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.”

Camping needs to do everything he can to make this right, and he can start by selling everything he has to pay back everybody who donated to his campaign, especially those who sold everything they had.

I’m sure its very tough. given that God has not given anyone, including his son Jesus the date. Therefor Jesus could not tell his followers and there would be no date within the bible – secret, encrypted or otherwise…

So Mr. Camping, I hope your proud of all of the people who blew their life savings to join you in this non-event…. fool.

Sir, look to the Bible for your answers. It appears you forgot to do that. The Bible clearly states (in JESUS’ own words) that we will not know the time. All we CAN do is be prepared and discern from many books of prophesy that at this time He is near and will be coming soon.

As always, be careful following any man but Jesus. The Bible tells us we need no man teach us, only the Holy Spirit who will lead us into all truth. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. I would guess his intentions were very honorable but the Bible also says when a prophets’ teachings do not come true, he is considered a false prophet so decide for yourself. One day one of these men will be close to being right when the heavens open and our Lord does return.

Do you know everything there is to know? Unless you know EVERYTHING in the Universe, then you should call yourself an agnostic no an atheist. At least when you call yourself an agnostic, you are saying you dont know everything there is to know. The definition of an atheist is to say absolutely there is no God and can never be a God…

An atheist would have to know everything about everything in the universe, therfore he would be God. Are you God? If you are…then there is a God and its you ROFL No….you are an agnostic.

There is no end of the world! It means end of the AGE….The earth abideth forever according to scriptures.Israel is what must be watched. There is yet a seven year period before the end of the age. A treaty (Dan 9:27) will be signed with Israel. The temple is to be rebuilt (See the Temple Mount Faithful group,They are ready to build, Levites have been trained, priestly garments and temple furniture such as the mennorah have been made) Somewhere in the middle of the seven years, the sacrifices are stopped by the antichrist who signed the treaty, he stands in the temple and declares himself to be god.The Jews are told to flee to the mountains (Matt 2415,16): and start counting 1290 days and Christ returns then. They will know the day, but not the hour, after the physical return, the defiled temple is rededicated. This explains the days to be counted in the book of Daniel Chapter 12:9-12.The 1290 days and 1335 days.1335 minus 1290 is 45.There happens to be exactly 45 days from Yom Kippur to Hanukkah.Christ returns on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) and rededicates the defiled temple on Hanukkah.Hanukkah means rededication. The Rapture and the Coming of the LORD are two seperate events.Learn the Jewish Holidays and their meanings. They are a Holy Convocation (Lev 23:4) Convocation means “rehearsal.”Christ fulfilled the Spring Feast days to the day.The Fall feast days are not yet fulfilled.Feast of Trumpets (rapture) Yom Kippur (physical return) Hanukkah (rededicated temple).

Not an answer. Truthfully, why do you insult and denigrate the deep beliefs of others? What inner turmoil enables you to look down your nose at others, simply because they believe in God? Why does that bother you so much that in your mind it makes them less than you, such that you are perfectly comfortable calling them names and insulting them? Seriously, why do you do that? Is that a “right” thing to do, regardless of what others might do?

I’m sure those who are really into this will check their calculations, but hopefully they too will come to take the Bible for what it is, God’s Word, not a hidden mathematical exercise.

Agreed Sparky. We can never fully know if a person has embraced Christ as savior or Christ’s teachings to be a better person.. Christ’s teaching do not save you unless you do as He says and ask Him to be your Savior.. Only Christ saves you. Not prophets, not mere knowledge of Christ, not baptism. Christ ALONE saves. Nothing else will save a soul…

If you are wrong, what then my friend? Give some critical thought to this and ask what if there is an eternal lake of fire for those who reject God. Hell was not made for man, but satan. I dislike Christianity but can discuss all other religions. I really knew nothing about Christianity to have formed such a negative view of it and it’s adherents. So, I determined to find out all I could about it. I studied and asked questions, I meditated on the word, and I prayed. God came to me, and I let him in. I suggest you do the same while you are able to read and comprehend. Quit coming to sites such as this to insult believers. You should be learning to enjoy them, for they are really fine people. Why must you denegrate the deep beliefs of others? If you are so sure of your atheism, then go with it. If you’ve got your answer, fine. Leave others alone. You truly are not as bright as you think.

Liberal Atheist and Critical Thinking is not an oxymoron.

Faith and Critical Thinking are diametrically opposed to each other. Believing in a mystical being/entity without any evidence (faith) just because you are told to… now that is moronic.

Why do you believe the Bible is the word of God? Because you are told too.
Why do believe there is a God? Because you are told too.

If someone one writes a book that says good things and has good parables demonstrating ethical behavior, calls it the Bible and tells you to follow these guidelines does not make him a prophet or the book the word of God. It’s simply a good idea.

There are none that are good according to GOD’s standards. Only the precious blood of Jesus makes man right to GOD!. There is only one type of loser in this world, the NON-believer. Religion and athieism are very closely related and seek the same end, a reject GOD attitude. @beckisnuts?

Who really is casting stones here? The proof of God is everywhere and to go on denying is to be ignorant. Take for example the fact the advancements in the medical field still only have a basic knowledge of the human body and its working and still do not agree on, or know, how we stay alive.

The human spirit has mass. Doctors fear coming out on miracles because of being discredited in their field and associates. Prayer works and I have been miraculously healed by God of several issues and now do not take any medications or vitamins. To constantly deny God is just trying to shore up ones own shortcomings and fears for ones chosen lifestyle. Society as a whole now does think it to be “cool” or acceptable to believe God.
So in constantly trying to sway others and use this anti-God school of thought is just rationalizing out in ones own mind to try to feel better about what they know is wrong. It is the same thing that I have seen over and over again. The insecurity of ones self and beliefs needs to be reinforced no matter how wrong it is. If you have ever sat and talked to someone that has killed another human they usually will go on and on trying to feel better about their crime by defending their actions, same can be said here. Trying to rationalize out God is the biggest hurdle to God. Jesus even thanked the Father for revealing Himself to the simple and hiding Himself from those that thought themselves to be wise.

Just because those who have experienced the life changing effects of a spiritual awakening cannot describe it or put it in a test tube, does not mean that it is not real.

Judging by the fresh egg shells in the top of LACT’s trash can, the plate containing scraps of scrambled eggs which are still a bit warm, the heated frying pan (measuring the temperature and knowing the speed at which metal cools, we can learn time), the butter knife with fresh butter on it, the toast crumbs on the otherwise clean and dust-free counter, the increased calories in LACT’s body, his stomach contents themselves, his slight increase in mass (measured in grams), the tiny bits of bread and egg remaining in his second premolar tooth, you can strongly suggest he’s had breakfast, reasonably assuming the time and contents.

      There.

Now, please use the scientific method to prove your specific deity. And please not that I didn‘t use LACT’s journal to prove what happened, since written words aren’t scientific evidence- just hearsay. :)

I do not believe in China. Oh, I know, millions of people claim to be from China. Some have claimed to have seen it. But how do they know? I have never seen China, and do not believe it exists. You say I can fly to China and actually set foot there? So how do I know it’s really China, and not somewhere else? Just because someone says so?

At some point, everything comes down to a matter of faith. To say one is absolutely certain there is no God takes a lot more faith than I have. It’s a bit like saying that if I stumble upon a pile of iron ore (how it got there is anyone’s guess) it is rational to believe that given enough time, it will transform itself into a skyscraper or an F-22 fighter. Ridiculous? You bet, but no more ridiculous than believing our entire planetary system and human life itself, infinitely more complex than any building or airplane, happened all by itself.

And yes, Rand was an atheist. What does that have to do with the discussion precisely? I suspect I know but it amuses me to allow people who assume things to go all the way down the road before I correct them.

You folks, you have quite a debate going on here. My question would be why try to convince the inconvincible, either way. One post said, “There is no proof that man has ever proven a deity exists”. In your vein of argument, would that not be the story of Jesus Christ with references to raising the dead, doubting Thomas, miracles, etc.? Of course they did not have digital pictures or a video tape back then, but wasn’t it 9 of 12 of the apostles were crucified after the death of Jesus, along with one’s wife? A couple of these even upside down. Now again, believer in a higher power or not, would you have subjected yourself to this if you knew beyond a doubt it was all simply a scam by a guy that was eventually nailed to the cross? Why bother, it would have been simpler to said, that Jesus Christ was a sham and his enemies would have loved that statement being circulated by one in his inner circle. If 9 of 12 were killed in a horrendous way for their continued beliefs after he was crucified, and a few jailed for continuing beliefs, doesn’t that seem convincing? If not, then nothing will short of a personal miracle, even then after time passed, people would rationalize that it was not “proof”, just blind luck. Believe or don’t, now my position to say one way or the other, just observing both sides of your arguments.

I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. As a “critical thinker” you are quick to sum up the lives of billions of people as ‘delusional’, yet you seem so sure that you are in the right. A true critical thinker would realize that in any field of study, from physics to religion, we know next to nothing about anything. If you are going to call all people that believe in a religion delusional you would also need to call all people who believe in gravity delusional. By looking at our modern understanding of physics we understand God about as much as we understand gravity, and there are many theories out there about both. So act like a critical thinker you can come to your own conclusions, but don’t ridicule others for having there own.

Atheists seem to be drawn to the line of reasoning that since those who believe in God cannot scientifically prove His existence then there is no such thing as God.

I posit the converse to also be valid, and I challenge the Atheists to scientifically prove that God DOESN’T exist. It cannot be done.

Who needs religion when one can know GOD personally.
Religion is man trying to write rules beyond GODs rules, not a good fit.
But knowing this one can hold a faith/ belief system beyond a religions dogma, and have a very wonderful knowledge of GOD.
It is enough that GOD is, if you don’t believe, then I say you weren’t meant too, though by free will you could choose too at any time.
Question: how do you know the wind exists, for if it blew and picked up no particulate matter, it would be as it truely is, unseen. Only it’s effect is seen, the same applies for GOD, His effect is in your very being, and in all around you, but you deny it because in your little world you are the greatest thing since dirt. sad really.

If I were an atheist, my first question I would need answered would be what created earth. This would have to be answered before I tackled “delusional religious people” or ANY other question because I like my buggy behind the horse where it belongs.

Being the logical atheist critical thinker I would supposedly be. I would not accept the answer of “Nothing plus no one equals everything.” I would also reject the reasoning stating particles banged together and created everything, until, the same people who claim we have been here for “Billions of years” explained why that elusive coincidence has yet to happen again. I myself would need an answer to this question before any further pondering could take place. I will be praying for you.

      Hi Top Hat,

…I‘m not entirely sure what you’re looking for with the “scientific method” to prove breakfast. If you’re not going to accept heat, time, chemical analysis, the five senses and logic, what are you after? You can very easily prove that someone had breakfast and WHAT that breakfast was with science. It’s done all the time in, say, a murder case. You examine physical evidence to understand what’s going on. If you see that a victim had been poisoned, then you see that his stomach contains a signature dish from a fancy restaurant laced with poison, you can start tracing your way through the chefs, the staff, people with access to the meal, etc. If you find blood samples and get a DNA match, you know the person the blood belongs to. This isn’t unfamiliar, right? Any episode of CSI or Law and Order will give you the basics. It’s not always exact on TV, but you get the idea…

If you‘re going to say that physical evidence isn’t scientific, I‘m afraid you’re lost. :\

To all of us that are critical of the Athiests.
Remember, Paul, whos writings make up most of the New Testament was once known as Saul. Saul hated the Christians and spent much time hunting down the Christians to be murdered. We are directed by Jesus the Christ to not destroy the tares (unbelievers) for a reason… some of them will find salvation before they die… and any and all who find salvation are cause for rejoicing.
I am as guilty as others of not being patient and of being too critical, so don’t follow my example, follow the example of Jesus the Christ and His disciples and the words of the Bible. Debate is OK, but name calling and hatefulness will not win a non-believer over… they will only respond in a like manner becoming more determined than ever to “win their argument” against God.

There are some things to remember/know.
      1) There is no rapture, it is false doctrine started by a “vision” of a young girl about 170 – 180 years ago. The Matthew 24 preachers have purposely “mis-interpreted” scripture to further the lie of the ratpure.
      2) Only our Heavenly Father knows when the second coming of Jesus the Christ is.
      3) Most preachers who call themselves Christian, aren’t… but they love the money and adoration that is heaped upon them.
      4) There will be many good people that end up in the Lake of Fire because they have believed the Matthew 24 preachers instead of studying the Bible as directed by Jesus the Christ.
      5) Most of what the preachers are telling you is false doctrine; Like Christmas, Easter, going to Heaven, where the streets of gold and the gates of pearl are, keeping the Sabbath, and on and on.

This should stir up a hornets nest… because some people would rather the tossed into the Lake of Fire than to admit that they have accepted a lie. ARE YOU GOING TO BELIEVE YOUR PREACHER OR THE BIBLE?

All have. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us on the cross for our sins, He took the punishment that we deserve on Himself and when we repent and believe on Him for the forgiveness of sins then He will give us a new heart, new creatures in Christ and write His laws on our heart. We must repent, turn for our sins and believe on Jesus Christ, fall on your knees and cry out to God for mercy and for Him to open your eyes to TRUTH…amen.

      No rapture?
Go read 1st Thessalonians, chapter 4 and get back to us. No one can predict when it’s coming, but that isn‘t the same as saying there isn’t one. Of course, if you want to stay when the other believers are taken up, that’s up to you. You can tell Jesus it’s all crap and runs counter to your study of the issue. Maybe you can show Him where His word doesn’t mean what it says.

Harold, Jesus returns returns AFTER the seven years in Revelation. The antichrist needs to come on the scene. Is it OBAMA? Needs to be from the mideast, not given to the way of women.

OBAMA surely is of the antichrist spirit, opposing Israel and mocking the Bible. Check this out for more.

What does “he” mean, he doesn’t understand? I understand perfectly when IT says, we will not know the day or time. I believe God, not the self proclaimed prophets who name themselves “God’s Servants.”
We are all God’s servants if we follow HIM. Yes, there are wonderful biblical scholars I appreciate, but I do have to question the ones who claim things we’ve been warned against. Beware! Don’t believe everyone who says God, God without proof of the spirit.

Hopefully, from this moment of realizing that no mere man can know what Scripture clearly says only God knows, Camping and his followers will be driven into Truth. Scripture Speaks For Itself! Camping, et al, will find Truth by researching Scripture sans a mere human’s flawed perspective.

The sad reality is that Camping and his followers have put such a huge amount of time, energy, and emphasis into forming elaborate theories and calculations that can only be called “guesses” at best, while ignoring the simple, plain truth of verses that speak without ambiguity. “No man knoweth the day or hour.” Proclaiming the Rapture and return of Jesus wasn’t their problem. Declaring a day and hour was. End of discussion.

To SNOWLEPARD: You don’t believe in the rapture and then tell people to look it up on the internet??? I advice is to look it up in the BIBLE since that IS God’s word. IF people would have read the Bible they would have known that this clown is a false prophet, a real prophet is right 100% of the time – he has struck out long ago and is now regulated as a nut false prophet and he admit his sins to God and ask for forgiveness AND stop with the fortune telling. Christ is going to return when God Almighty tells him to not before not after… That is why the Bible tells us to ALWAYS be ready for His return. Stop listening to false prophets and start reading the word of God.

Perhaps even if you don’t believe the Bible then perhaps you should learn history. Your ignorance showing no bounds. If you knew history then you would know that the people that call themselves palestinian actually have no reason to be where they are. When Israel was given their nation in 1948, the palestinians were also given land for their own state. This land was called TransJordan and was actually a larger area of land than Israel got. The jordanians stole that land and forced the palestinians to stay where they are now just to cause the problems that they are causing now. They have absolutely NO claim to any part of Israel. Of course the way that it is now, any one that supports the terrorists over there (which technically just about all of them are) is supporting terrorism themselves. Which in mind at least that would actually make you a terrorist, just not with enough courage to do anything about it. Either that or you are so gullible that if you were around Jonestown when it was still going, you would probably have been one of the very first people to jump up, grab the koolaid and drank up. Whatever you do I hope it is not something that calls for thinking since you are obviously not capable of that.

Atheists seem to be drawn to the line of reasoning that since those who believe in God cannot scientifically prove His existence then there is no such thing as God.

I posit the converse to also be valid, and I challenge the Atheists to scientifically prove that God DOESN’T exist. It cannot be done.

Camping’s prediction of the end of the world has been proven to be a hoax or maybe simply a mistake of judgement. Holy Scripture plainly tells us that NO MAN knows the day or hour that the world will come to an end. Jesus Christ has said that even HE didn’t know what is only known by our heavenly Father. Like other “end of the world predictors”, Camping is struggling to come up with the answers as to why the world didn’t end as he announced it would. The answer is simple, it wasn‘t God’s appointed time to end the world that He himself created.

      @formerlib.
I’ve read it many times. The “rapture” is not in the Bible… period! You have believed the lies of your pastor. I strongly suggest that you study the Bible yourself, praying each time that God will reveal to you His Word. I think that the Rapture is a great idea… but the problem is that it just isn’t Biblical, anymore than “the saved go to Heaven”. Those who have salvation go to New Jerusalem.
My guess is that your preacher also told you that Christians didn’t need to keep the Sabbath (Friday sundown to Saturday sundown) or that it just doesn’t matter what day you keep. He/She most likely said something about “nailed to the Cross”. In the past I believed the same things that you believe… I believed the lies! Then, I started studying the Bible for myself and never rejected what others said until I personally looked to see what the Bible really said about each subject. What I found is that most preachers are those whom Jesus was talking about in Matthew 24:4-5. The truth won’t get you many friends, but it will get you Salvation…. I choose Salvation & my Heavenly Father.

Except that the Mayans never predicted that the world is going to end on Dec 21, 2012. That’s simply when the calendar they made runs out. It was modern day tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theory kooks that made the leap that that means the world is ending. And the many different end of the world prophecies of various cultures are used to prop up that assertion even though they are unrelated in any way whatsoever and are just general “the world will end” prophecies that have no element of a specific timeline.

      I was shocked, confused, bewildered
      As I entered Heaven’s door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp–
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
      The alcoholics and the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money! Twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
      Who never said anything nice.
      Herb, who I always thought
      Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
      Looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, ‘What’s the deal?
Would love to hear Your take.
How’d all these sinners get up here?
      God must’ve made a mistake.
      ‘And why’s everyone so quiet,
So somber – give me a clue.’
‘Hush, child,’ He said, ‘they’re all in shock.
No one thought they’d be seeing you.’

All joking aside. I hope you finde Jesus!

      @IMAREDDOG and SNOWLEPORD
What Bible are you reading? I read The Holy Bible (New International Version) . Mathew 24 does not talk about the Rapture. Jesus is answering the questions that was asked of him about the End of Times. You know, like famines and earthquakes. “All these are the begining of birth pains” said Jesus.
Now on the subject of the Rapture: Here it is:
      1 Thessalonians:16-18
For the Lord Himself will come down from Heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be CAUGHT UP together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.
      1 Corinthians 15: 51-54
Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep but we will all be changed- IN A FLASH, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with the immortal, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
Hope all of you are ready for the best thing ever!!!!

What Bible are you reading? I read The Holy Bible (New International Version) .
Ans. I have a NIV, but I only read the KJV. They say differnent things and they both can’t be correct, so I read the oldest version that I can find and read.
Mathew 24 does not talk about the Rapture.
      Ans: Correct, the verses in Matt 24 that I am referring to is;

      Matt 24:4-5
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.(KJV)
This refers to the preachers that twist the truth to make people believe a lie, like the Rapture

      1Thes 4:13-17
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.(KJV)

      @Blazegirl (continued)

      1 Cor 15:51-54
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
      (KJV)
Verse 51 doesn‘t say that we won’t die because we will. It says that we will not lay in the grave and will instantly be given an uncorruptable body.
Verse 52 says “at the last trump” (trumpet) This is not before the Tribulation.

      Matt 24:29-31
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory
31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.(KJV)
