‘Double Standard’: Santorum Uses Rev. Wright to Slam CBS During Interview

GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Friday accused the media of a double standard for the flak he’s taking regarding a prominent backer’s contraception joke, saying the media didn’t blame then-candidate Barack Obama for Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s radical views.
(Related: ‘Whatever’: Greta Confronts Santorum Over ‘Crazy’ Supporter & His Sex Joke)
“This is someone who is a supporter of mine, and I’m not responsible for every comment that a supporter of mine makes,” Santorum said on CBS‘s ’This Morning.“ ”It was a bad joke, it was a stupid joke, it’s not reflective of me or my record on this issue [of contraception].”
Santorum supporter Foster Friess told MSNBC during an appearance Thursday, “back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraception. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn’t that costly.”
Accusing the media of “gotcha politics,” Santorum said he’s “just not going to play that game.”
Pressed again by host Charlie Rose, who insisted the topic wasn’t “gotcha,” Santorum fired back.
“Hold on Charlie, when you quote a supporter of mine who tells a bad off-color joke and somehow I am responsible for that, that is gotcha,” Santorum said. “Look, this is what you guys do. You don’t do this with President Obama. In fact, with President Obama, what you did was you went out and defended him against someone who he sat in a church for, for 20 years and defended him, that oh, he can’t possibly believe what he listened to for 20 years. It’s a double standard, this is what you’re pulling off, and I’m going to call you on it.”

Posted on February 17, 2012 at 11:51amI believe Santorum handled himself beautifully! Most of us could never handle these continual interviews and the constant stream of bombarding questions. Santorum has shown marked developed in his interview and debate abilities since the primary debates first started back in the fall. So many people are wrapped up around the idea that we shouldn‘t nominate Santorum because he couldn’t hold his own in a debate against Obama, but I believe we may all be amazed at how well he does.
Report Post »Our country truly is a conservative country, even if the liberal minority would want us to believe differently, and we’re ready for a real conservative. No, Santorum isn’t perfect, no one on this earth possibly can be. But I believe he has the character and courage to make the horribly difficult decisions that lay ahead of whomever fills the Executive Branch position.

Rick Santorum: A Massively Expanded Welfare State is ‘The Genuine Conservatism our Founders Envisioned’
“What was my vision? I came to the uncomfortable realization that conservatives were not only reluctant to spend government dollars on the poor, they hadn’t even thought much about what might work better. I often describe my conservative colleagues during this time as simply ‘cheap liberals.’ My own economically modest personal background and my faith had taught me to care for those who are less fortunate, but I too had not yet given much thought to the proper role of government in this mission”
“I suspect some will dismiss my ideas as just an extended version of ‘compassionate conservatism.’ Some will reject what I have said as a kind of ‘Big Government Conservatism.’ Some will say that what I’ve tried to argue isn’t conservatism at all. But I believe what I’ve been presenting is the genuine conservatism our Founders envisioned. One that fosters the opportunity for all Americans to live as we are called to live, in selfless families that contribute to the general welfare, the common good”
Does this sound like someone who gets it, or does it sound like Marx rather than Jefferson?

First of all, I dont think what the guy said was bad at all. Secondly we should be looking at the voting records, audio, and video clips of these candidates to see what they really are for and against. Who cares what a supporters says.
Lets quit looking at the petty BS that means nothing when we have never ending overseas wars, out of control spending, we are losing our freedoms, and we have crushing debt. Those are the four topics that matter.

3. Raised the minimum wage 6 times and debt ceiling 5 times.
4. Has pushed big government legislation, especially during the Bush administration.
5. He wasn’t for an individual mandate but he was for an employer mandate to provide health care for workers even though they layoff.
6. In his Congressional run, Santorum used the tactics that he whines about, negative campaigning, winning him his first campaign.
7. Voted for Arlen Specter who gave up ObamaCare and the bailouts. Who was pro-abortion, anti-gun.
Does this disqualify him, no. These are things people need to know about as part of vetting and yet this is only after a few days after becoming frontrunner. There is probably more to come out soon.

The state has the right to try this the federal government does not.” This is the main reason I don’t like Romney. If he would just point out that the people who live in his state like this sort of thing but the people who live in, say, Texas do not. Posted on February 18, 2012 at 3:19amFREEDUMLOVER, you are all wet. You soaked your head too long, and you’re thinking has become water logged. Therefore your extrapolation is skewed and does not represent the facts with respect to Senator Santorum’s views on the welfare state, government handouts and entitlements, which some would include welfare therein.
Reading your redstate website post of Jeff Emanuel, it is not indicated that Senator Santorum is a big government, pro welfare expenditure increase advocate. That is Jeff Emanuel’s extrapolation, which it appears that you just piggy backed upon. Such is not only not likely the case, but his more recent pronouncements indicate otherwise and the economic conditions of the country preclude and Santorum’s understanding relative thereto would pretty much preclude him from taking a position of an expanded welfare state.
Santorum from my viewpoint would be more in line with a hand up to a person in need of some temporary assistance rather than a hand out as you, as you attempt to categorize him. There is nothing in the statements attributed to Santorum that would indicate that he is in favor of an expanded, increased welfare growth state, nor is there any such significant pattern of his promoting such in his legislative history. He many times voted for both tax cuts and expenditure cuts, and there is every indication that he would continue to do so based upon the economic conditions and his understanding and proclivity to turn things around.

Ya they reported on it but with kid gloves, no real follow-up and certainly not the gotcha undertone that has been leveled on every single conservative out there, not just the canididates. I think that Cain could follow that up for me, oh and Gingrich, and Romney, Palin, Rubio, Christie and so on and so on… They’ll even fabricate and twist a non-issue into an issue to CREATE a gotch situation. You don’t get a pass on that comment. Not here, we’ve been paying too much attention to let you slide on that. SORRY!!!!!

Santorum has every right to be upset, because it’s ridiculous situation (Wright was a ton worse than what’s-his-face). But he is absolutely wrong when he says “You don’t do this with President Obama.” Heck, I linked a report of CBS asking how can Obama not denounce Wright for his rhetoric.
Don‘t buy into Santorum’s hype. He’s a big-government candidate, and NOT what the GOP needs. It‘s not his supporter’s words that are sinking him; it’s his own policies.

I hope he – other candidates will get a spine, stop being “pc” and tell it the way it IS more — I am so sick of hearing Romney say that Obama is a “nice guy…just way over his head”!!! NO, he isn’t a “nice guy” and he knows what he is doing – willing accomplice to the destruction of America as based on the Constitution, capitalism, etc. Another reason people don’t like Romney…..too much like this. If he really thinks this is true of him, that‘s not a good trait at all since it’s so obvious and easy to check out — if he doesn’t think this is true, he’s lying – that‘s definitely not a good trait we do not want anymore since that’s what we’ve been outraged about with Obama being a pathological liar.

Wait… what? Of course Obama got blasted for his comments. It was bad enough that he left his church; he distanced himself as much as possible due to the negative media exposure. Heck, it was bad enough that people are still talking about it now.
What Wright said was also a lot worse than what Santorum’s guy said, but Santorum‘s a bit delusional if he thinks Obama never took flak over Wright’s horrendous comments.

Posted on February 17, 2012 at 11:42amLOL…..yes LOCKED…the media had a virtual feeding frenzy with Reverend Wright and demanded Obama explain himself. Please provide the proof. FOX took the story and made it public you imbecile and when it got too much public traction, the media had no choice but to mention Uncle Jerry. At first Obama said he’s not not disowning uncle Jerry (his “sounding board for his conscience”) then whent the political heat got too hot for Barry…”enough’s enough”. The media didn’t take on Barry in any serious way about Jerry Wright, in fact lately David Axelrod has been playing down Wright’s incendiary comments without any questioning from the media. You’re an idiot.

As you posted a minute after I provided the exact perfect shut-down to your assertion (Santorum slams NBC versus NBC demanding to know how Obama doesn’t denounce Wright), I’ll be kind and just say your final sentence applies quite well to you.
FOX broke the story? Sure, I believe it. But saying the media didn’t run with it? Delusional. As soon as it was out in the open, Obama did his best to distance himself from Wright.
So what’s the difference here? Some left-wing site or news source found this one, but now FOX is running with it just as much as the rest. Same treatment. http://nation.foxnews.com/rick-santorum/2012/02/17/hot-video-furious-santorum-demolishes-charlie-rose-contraception-gotcha-question

“are you loaded ?”
Only with information and facts, which I am happy to share!
Now, don‘t think for a minute I’m defending the left-leaning bias of the media. Obama got a pass on a lot of things from CNN, MSNBC, etc. They would report on things and then let them die down quickly. FOX and online conservative sites would continue to keep them going. That’s expected, even if it’s wrong. But it‘s very different to say that news sites didn’t report on issues; they definitely did. And do you think FOX or conservative sites will continue talking about Friess weeks from now? Of course not; but I wouldn’t be surprised to hear lefty sites doing so.
What I mean to say is, sites and stations with a bias will act on it. But in the end, news sites will usually report the news. Saying CBS didn‘t question Wright’s words is factually wrong. Saying they didn’t do it as much as FOX? Accurate.

There is no doubt that the vast majority of the news media is in the tank for the left, so showing a couple of stories that actually covered dear leaders problems is certainly not proof that they are fair and balanced, and neither is Fox News. They ALL have agendas.
Want proof, just how many stories did you see regarding the NDAA that is by far one of the most disturbing Bill of Rights trashing pieces of excrement passed in my lifetime? Hardly a peep was mentioned about it other than on the net where both the left and the right were going ballistic while crying foul. How do you explain that?
The MSM including Fox… is a joke.

Completely agree. Hence my point: biases are going to show. Networks will report stories, but the spin they put on it and how long they run with it will vary depending on where their bias lies. But for Santorum to say “the media” didn’t do this with Obama is just not true. They just didn’t run with it like FOX. Similar to how FOX won’t run with it for weeks, but MSNBC probably will.
It‘s why I don’t watch cable news, and instead find places online like theblaze for my information!
