‘Dr. Doom’: The Global Economic Storm I Predicted Is on Its Way

Nouriel Roubini, the economist whose dire warnings earned him the nickname “Dr. Doom,” said on Monday that the recent slowdowns in the U.S., Europe, and China is proof that the global “perfect storm” scenario he predicted is on its way.
“(The) 2013 perfect storm scenario I wrote on months ago is unfolding,” Roubini Tweeted on Monday.
And he may be right.
You see, Roubini predicted that the four specific elements would come together to create the perfect global economic crisis: a stalled U.S. economy, the EU debt crisis, a slowdown in emerging markets (China), and conflict in Iran.
“Chinese inflation data released on Monday, suggested that the economy is cooling faster than expected, while employment data out of the U.S. on Friday indicated that jobs growth was tepid for a fourth straight month in June,” CNBC’s Ansuya Harjani reports.
“Dr. Doom” also believes that the storm, when it hits, will be far worse than the financial crisis of 2008 because policymakers have run “out of rabbits to pull out of the hat.”
Again, he may be 100 percent correct.
Considering that last week the European Central Bank, the Bank of England, and the People’s Bank of China all announced major policy changes that had no effect whatsoever on the markets, policymakers may have indeed run out of tricks to stem the oncoming “storm.”
Watch Roubini explain why the storm may be far worse than 2008 [via Bloomberg]:
“Levitational force of policy easing can only temporarily lift asset prices as gravitational forces of weaker fundamentals dominate over time,” Roubini said.
Bill Smead, CEO of Smead Capital Management, agrees that there is little central banks can do to halt a the global slowdown, CNBC reports.
“Last week, he told CNBC that there is ‘virtually zero chance’ that pump-priming by central banks will succeed,” Harjani writes, “suggesting that policymakers should instead let the economic bust work itself through the system.”

At least he is honest, and is not one of the ones lying to us that things are fundamentally sound. As the business climate worsens, the market rallies on stimulus, how much more fake is that? How many more rabbits can Ben pull out of his hat, I say not many more, but they will kick the can down the road as far as they can, making things MUCH worse in the end. Mr. Obama has been an abject failure, it has been his economy for four years, sure he inherited a bad situation, but he has FAILED to deliver on his promises. One of which he called Bush unPatriotic for running up the debt, for which he has now almost doubled in the last few years. Why is unemployment not at 5% like he promised? Where are the jobs Mr President? why is our debt at record levels? You are a FAILURE!
People have no clue, what is sound about worthless dollars? or unpayable debt? or stimulus that produces fake growth? sure you made some money back on the casino stock market, it won’t last for much longer. Anyone who thinks the dollar is strong is crazy…it is only stronger than the other worthless currencies. The market is close to the early 2008 leveles, when GDP growth was 4.9% and unemployment was 4.5%…why? GDP is now 1.9% and unemployment is 8.2%, tell me geniuses what is fundamentally strong about that? How are you going to compensate me for my work? Are you going to email me and suggest that you send me a 1/2 pound of beef for my work? Then how are the people that sewed the t-shirt going to get paid? Are you going to call them up and offer them something else for their work? Are you also going to call the web site that facilitated the design for their share of the work?
I also write articles and design web pages. I get paid a very small sum for each page view, click, etc. Every time that you visit a web page, are you going to email them and offer to send them a peanut or something for their efforts?
If you don’t think that I should get paid for my hard work, why should you expect me to work? Or more accurately, why should you expect me to do any work other than that which pleases myself? I certainly wouldn’t design t-shirts, but I might still write web pages… although I’d only write web pages that benefited me in some way… such as push an agenda item for me or made Jesus happy or something (he doesn’t have a problem with paying people who work).

We now have generations that show us, if you just GIVE the donkey the carrot, they quit running. They quit inventing. They quit working. they quit believing. They spiral into a life devoid of dreams and goals. They nurture a habit of idle time, and seek to soak away their lack of fulfillment in a bottle or joint.
I am NOT saying that a revolution may not be needed; but I would say that the revolution would be to restore limited government and freedom (get back to the principles of the Constitution and Amendments that properly establish a uniform application of the Bill of Rights).

1) China is a house of cards, western governments believed the lies of a government whose political philosophy is built on lies (Soviet Union did much of the same things). So when the house collapses we are shocked (like the reaction of economists each time US government data shows lower growth)
2) Too many able bodied people are dependent on government in the West. Taxes are too high to support this dependency. That sucks not only capital out of the private sector, it encourages laziness and dependency. Eventually that collapses society.
No one should be shocked, the great Roman Empire collapsed not because of external forces, but because it decayed from within. The west is doomed to repeat this as most folks forget or ignore the past. God help us.

Here’s something he said about getting us out.
“The right balance today requires creating jobs partly through additional fiscal stimulus aimed at productive infrastructure investment. It also requires more progressive taxation; more short-term fiscal stimulus with medium- and long-term fiscal discipline; lender-of-last-resort support by monetary authorities to prevent ruinous runs on banks; reduction of the debt burden for insolvent households and other distressed economic agents; and stricter supervision and regulation of a financial system run amok; breaking up too-big-to-fail banks and oligopolistic trusts.
“Over time, advanced economies will need to invest in human capital, skills, and social safety nets to increase productivity and enable workers to compete, be flexible, and thrive in a globalized economy. The alternative is — like in the 1930s — unending stagnation, depression, currency and trade wars, capital controls, financial crisis, sovereign insolvencies, and massive social and political instability.”

REMEMBER THAT? and then Obama gave permits to them to drill in the Gulf, while our rigs sat idle under a moratorium after the spill. George Soros being heavily invested in PetroBras the drilling/oil company. The moratorium trashed the economys of more than one state, but especially Louisiana. They still haven’t recovered and many lost their businesses and livelyhoods.
This should come up in every campaign speech by Romney!

We’ll still mine coal, we’ll just sell to other countries to burn even though we could burn it much cleaner that China, India or most other countries. So the pollutants will go up into the air at a much higher rate by these other countries while denying our economy from a source of energy. Wrap your head around that one.

It is going to be a gradual phenomenon – I don’t see an “off the cliff” type of deal. The puppet masters are too busy behind the scenes pulling different strings and I feel there’s no reason to believe they cannot continue to pull it off, over a frighteningly unwitting populace. It might not be for another 10 years, who knows?
I mean, consider this nation’s unfunded liabilities which is over 100 trillion – and still nobody is affected by that number. It’s going to take actual “pain at the pump” for people to make the connection; no different than a monkey reacting to an electric pulse of energy.
