No joke here…many US docs are now making FAR LESS than the average Fed. Govt. drone (who’s making $150K +/yr + bennies), after sacrificing anywhere from 7 to 13 years of medical training (depending on specialty) just to get there. Good private doc’s will continue to practice strictly fee for service for wealthy patients (including Fed. and State Govt. elites and their families). The rest will get foreign medical grads from Mexico and Zimbabwe.

Do you have any idea hoe many insurance companeis are getting out of the business too? No one cares but when you cut the competition you increase prices too. That is what Obama wanted and it is happening. A often ignored item in Obamacare is the fact that the insurance companies are not forced to spend 45% more on customer care. So where are these $ coming from? The companies still have to pay employees to pay claims, they still have to market the product, they still have to hire lawyers to defend the never ending lawyers law suits. They are not forced to increase prices to make up the difference even beyond the fact that they have to offer so many more services under ths stupid law. The result of Obamacare is doctors leaving the business. hospitals closing and insurance companies throwing in the towel. The result for the average american is going from the best health care in the world to the worst. Get ready America for the stories of peoples death because they can’t find a doctor or a hospital even with insurance, if they can afford it that is.

I have a couple friends that are doctors……….they are in their 50′s….they are already making plans to close their practice and retire from the medical field…it is too bad because they are wonderful doctors…they have already sold their building and facilities to the local hospital and are phasing themselves out……..along with their practice, they had the only urgent care facility in the county..they were open after regular hours so if it wasn’t a life threatening emergency you could go there instead of the hospital emergency room

I’m 21 and a possible med school student by 2012. I‘ve been set on being a doctor since I started college and now I’m tempted to get out, but to what? I changed my major to Athletic Training when I started my second semester of my junior year just so I could have a backup plan. It’s kept me in school an extra semester, but it could be worth it considering my prospects. Unfortunately, ATs may be too close to the health care system for me to be safe even there. I’ve been debating since health care passed- do I go to med school and hope Obamacare goes away?
My present plan is to forge on though the very last thing I want to do is have more government in my life, because really, not living out my dream of being a doctor would already let that government control start seeping in. Besides, black market doctor sounds pretty fun…

    Reply to Exrepublsheep:

Why is there a “lottery” in some areas of Canada to be “chosen” to see a family doctor? From personal experience, I lived in Canada from 1991 to 2008. I had to wait from April 1995 to September 1995 to get lithotripsy to treat a kidney stone. When I started having severe joint pain in November of 2000, my family doctor told me I would have to wait unitl March 2001 to see a specialist. Only after I told him that I wanted my records to take with me to a Washington state did he pull in “some favors” and got me in within a few weeks. I was diagnosed with Lupus.

By the way, the medical care is not “free”. Taxes are higher in Canada and we also had to pay $100 a month to the Medical Service Plan.

By the way, the hospitals are dirty, 4 to a room, and men and women share hospital rooms. Yea, I lived it.

We can directly blame SEIU, the AFL-CIO, AFSCME, the Teachers Union, etc for Obamcare. Without their help, this bill would never have made it out of committee hearings. How many union members actually wanted this? Not many. Union members already have a VERY good medical program, but their LEADERSHIP has screwed them good. Their cadilac policies are going to go the way of the DO-DO bird. If you are a union member, want to take back your power? A little known law that ALL unions are supposed to make their members aware of is called Beck’s Law. But the unions DO NOT tell their members. Why? Keep reading. The Supreme Court’s Beck Decision Recognizes Individual Worker Rights: In 1989, the U. S. Supreme Court established what are now known as “Beck rights” in the landmark decision Communication Workers v. Beck, Beck rights dictate that workers cannot be forced under union contracts to pay any dues or fees beyond those necessary for the performance of the union’s employee representation duties. In other words, any worker who objects to his union’s use of his dues money for purposes not directly related to collective bargaining is entitled to a refund of that portion of his dues. Beck rights are a triumph of individual rights over the political weight of union leaders. Workers in labor unions DO NOT HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN THEIR UNION BOSSES POLITICAL ACTIONS. All the member needs to do is notify the union they do not want their dues used for anything other than those directly related to collective bargaining, they will get a refund of their dues money. Look here for more information: http://www.mackinac.org/article.aspx?ID=1403
If I can get enough people to pass this around, I truly believe it will make a huge dent in the labor unions ability fund anything political. Unions were meant to represent their members, not political action committees. Get the unions OUT of politics!

Small changes until its all but eliminated. They will start chopping away at the insurance companies, next will be the “uneeded” hospitals. {”because we cannot operate all these places all over the country, there is too much expense. So all of you people will have to come to the MAIN treatment centers located in you nearest major city.”} Just wait it will happen.

One may opt out, at least until card check gets pushed through.( God forbid) Personally I have little regard for the bargaining unit in nursing. IMO, the dues are increasingly onerous with inappreciable gains. I have seen many loose their empathy and core values,it becomes too much about business/labor and less ethical. Also although they aren’t technically practiding medicine, many advance practice ARNPs come very close, especially in SNF’s.

Quantity vs quality arguments really should be directed this way. With all those doctors leaving or retiring, with those hospitals that close, it’s going to leave a severe shortage of doctors and care, with a massively expanded base of insured people. Not to mention, people that do not have to pay a dime for insurance, end up using things like the emergency room for every little thing, even a headache, because what do they care? They aren’t paying for it anyways.
This Obamacare garbage has got to go, or it will help to sink this great Country.

I see it too. My major complaint about being a nurse is the workload. The front line caregivers are the backbone of the industry. We are expected and legally obligated to overwork ourselves and are not entitled to unionize. We don’t make anything near what a government employee makes. If the government cannot get health care right we will all need to devise a new health care system that relies on personal responsibility to pay the bills and personal responsibility for gross malpractice. We need to cut out the middle men like the government and insurance companies- why are we paying all this money for a paper pusher in an insurance company? Why are we wasting all of our health care resources for govt bureaucracy?
Glenn really needs to take that light he’s shining on Soros and direct it at the health care industry for a while- when he’s done with Soros, of course.

Do you rmember the story of the young girl in England who developed pain in har lower leg? Her parents took her to the local doctor’s clinic (Run by the Government health care system) and they were told that it was only “Growing Pains”. Over the next several months, they took her back as the pain kept on increasing. She was prescribed mild pain medicine and again the parents were told it was just “Growing Pains”. FINALLY, after numerous visits and a broken leg, a doctor referred her to an Orthopaedic Clinic and they very quickly diagnosed the child had BONE CANCER which, if it had been treated when she first complained, could have been entirely cured. The doctors had to amputate the girl’s leg to prevent the spread of the cancer further.

This is what we can expect from Obamacare or any form of government takeover of the healthcare system. That is why people, who can afford to, are coming here from Italy, Germany ,France, England and Canada to get the care they need. Care they can’t get at home because it was denied ornvastly delayed by their government health systems.

America has the BEST health care system in the world. We have the best doctors, hospitals and clinics. We don’t need to gut the system. We don’t need to turn our healthcare system into a third world system.

I think it is only fair that if this awful law is ever fully implemented that those who wanted it and fought for it should go to the back of the line every time.

exrepulisheep- seems like you’ve been watching that propagandist Michael Moore. If you knew the truth about the Canadian Healthcare system you wouldn’t be hi-fiving it. I have family in Canada and have watched them wait months for tests, surgeries, and treatments that only take days here. The only way around that system is to pay-off someone or go to America. Canada definitely has a doctor shortage and a bed shortage or else it‘s citizens wouldn’t have to wait 6 months to get a “psoriasis” diagnosis.

The basic and most profound reason to repeal this socialistic nightmare legislation is simple, most of us did like the process or the bill, we spoke loudly and yet it was passed. The reason to repeal this is simply to make it right, to match the plurality of people who are frightened by it. Repeal it because it is the ethical thing to do if you truly represent the american people, a phrase they all throw around. As we learn more about this bill it has got to concern everyone. There is so much we do not know yet. We need to start over with some form of transparency. This is too big not to.

I take exception the less diverse part of your sentence. Canada is a multi-cultural nation. I figure most nations are well represented here.
But to our health care – yes there are long waiting lines because we have a one tier system. Rich and poor lineup together. However, that said, the rich sometimes find a way to jump the queue and sometimes that means going to the US.
But, after all that – I have no choice that my tax dollars pay for abortions!

Exsheep… Canada’s system is a nightmare! I live on the border and the stories I have heard from them is more than enough to help me make my decision. And this isn‘t just people’s stories, but what also has made our local news. For example, routine childbirth being choppered in to a local US hospital. A child with a broken arm being choppered miles away to another hospital, just to have it set. I could go on too!
For example, In comparing spinal surgery with a customer of mine, we had similar procedures, mine even being more severe than his, and what we learned from comparing our experiences was more than telling.
First, He priced the procedure in Canada and in the US. It costs $25,000 more in his country than in the US.
Second, His wait time to see his doctor was 16 months. Our conditions could have resulted in permanent neurological damage, including paralysis or death, if not treated in a timely manner. I had all my tests, including consultation with an additional specialist, my primary physician, surgery, a three month recovery period, and had returned to work in less than half the time he waited to just see his doctor.
I think anyone should be able to see through the rose-colored glasses Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and the other oppressors gave us and see the promises don’t hold up to actuality. Their system, while government run does not reduce costs, and the extended wait times for some conditions makes them life threatening.
Additionally, a friend of mine’s wife has a brain tumor. In Canada most people found to have these tumors are diagnosed upon autopsy; meaning they die before they get the required tests to diagnose their illness when they were alive.

Yes it’s already starting. My GP will stop taking insurance as of December 1st. He will have different plans according to your needs. Of course it will be out of pocket but he will be on call 24/7 and he is going to make house calls (wow I can’t remember ever when a doctor has made house calls). The different treatment/office visit plans are running from $500 to $3000 a year. If there are going to be intensive tests needed, I will have to file/fight with my insurance company. I see a new possible trend starting with our healthcare. There is another doctor in my town who does a lacarte as well. They’re actually fairly reasonable. At least there maybe an alternative to all of this craziness.

Around the time the big civil rights legislation was passed in the 1960s, it became “colored.“ Still later we had to switch to ”black.” Then, later still, it became “African American.”

The answer will be NO. You will be at the mercy of the of the on call physician until you are released. You people can argue all you want about Canada’s Health Care system, it will not change the BS we are all about to find in the 2000+ page Health Care reform.

With 100% certainty, this is true. Obamacare will destroy our great health care system and bankrupt our country, just as our new Speaker of the House has promised. This is not political rhetoric. One of the few things the Repubs did right in the last 10 years was to vote against Obamacare. The dimwhitted Dems just don’t get it and their leaders who do get it want to destroy this country.

@snowcloud: You are absolutely correct. The government will slide in their eugenics program as soon as they have all the sheeple in control under Obamacare.

Obama has already stated in one of his speeches that the elderly pose a cost issue to the government health care system. That humanitarian end-of-life counseling is needed. WTH? Just like people did not think about what exactly “fundamentally transform America” meant when he said that.

What is even scarier is when “voluntary” vaccinations become “mandatory” free vaccinations under Obamacare (for the good of the masses of course) and the government vaccinates everyone (except government officials and people on the “favored” list) with a strain of a deadly virus that the government concocted at one of their secret military labs. Bye-bye 100 million “unnecessary, burdensome” people. Hello Marshall law and communist takeover of our land. FEMA already has the power RIGHT NOW to round up people if they deem a pandemic has broken out.

Really hope not, but I tell you one thing – two things I will never do – Never get vaccinated and Never evacuate to “temporary emergency housing” (a military internment camp/prison).

If she’d injured her skull in close to (or I’d say right at) 100% of the entire USA (even backwoods areas) — she would have had a hospital close enough and staffed properly AND with THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT to have SAVED HER LIFE. She was unfortunate enough to have injured her head in Canada. She’s dead. Here is the link: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/29733775
