Dramatic Footage: Retired NYPD Lt. Guns Down Gang Robber Who Opened Fire on Female Officers

A dramatic shootout in Harlem, NY ended when a retired NYPD Lieutenant turned hedge fund driver sprang into action and opened fire on a robber who had started firing at two female officers responding to the scene.

Rudolph Wyatt, 23 and known by his street name “Booga,” was in the process of holding up a drug store and demanding money and the pain killers OxyContin and Percocet. At the time of the robbery, several customers were in the store, including a baby in a stroller. An alert manager hit the panic button, which summoned two female officers in a patrol car and a male officer on foot. When the cops arrived, they were able to coax one suspect (who has since escaped) out. That’s when Wyatt came out gun blazing. And that’s when retired Lt. Thomas Barnes took action.

Surveillance video captured it all:

The NY Post explains what happened:

Thomas Barnes, 48, was filling his tank at the BP station on East 119th Street and First Avenue at around 11 a.m. when he saw gunman Rudolph Wyatt running from the store, and sprang into action.

He crouched behind his hedge-fund boss’ Mercedes SUV and squeezed off three shots, killing Wyatt, 23.

The trigger-happy thug — wanted on warrants for two other shootings — lay dead in a pool of blood on the sidewalk wearing a black stocking mask with a wad of stolen cash spilling out of his pocket, witnesses said.

“Part of the back of his head was missing. He had a large head wound and there was tons of blood,” witness John Brecevich, 59, told the Post.

Wyatt was a member of the Bloods gang called “All About Money.” It just so happens Barnes, the retired cop, spent years working in the gang division in Brooklyn. Wyatt was wanted for shooting a 19-year-old in Georgia six times (non-fatal) and for another May 2010 shooting in NYC.

“I’m just happy to be home with my family,” Barnes said.

Now that’s the kind of news, I like to wake up to. One more slug down, and hundreds of thousands to go. And it does not. take a retired policeman to achieve these splendid results. Self defense is a beautiful thing. It insures longevity. And, a gun isn’t always required. Oftentimes, a good ole fashioned arse whipping will suffice nicely. But not with these enemies of the state. Trust me folks, no matter how threatening the boogie man looks, he can be neutralized as witnessed in this play by play shootout. Defend you and yours, and we can turn the funeral processions around on these pigs.

You all seem to be missing something BIG here! If this officer was RETIRED!, then why did he have possession of a gun in New York City? Shouldn’t they be filing charges against him for illegal gun possession inside the city lines? Why is this CITIZEN suddenly a “hero” for shooting someone when other armed citizens are being threatened with years in a prison cell for carrying their own weapons for self defense?

      Hypocrisy at work people.

Good question. Here’s what I found. It doesn’t mention NYC specifically.
      Law Enforcement Officer’s Safety Act
“In 2004, the United States Congress enacted the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, 18 U.S. Code 926B and 926C. This federal law allows two classes of persons—the “qualified law enforcement officer” and the “qualified retired law enforcement officer”—to carry a concealed firearm in any jurisdiction in the United States, regardless of any state or local law to the contrary, with certain exceptions.”
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concealed_carry_in_the_United_States

New York is a Castle Doctrine state but has no stand-your-ground law.

Me thinks this guy is in real trouble unless he is black. Jessie Jackson said yesterday that you can talk it out and put all your guns away. In NYC only cops (active) Chriminals, and body guards may carry a gun. This guy was a driver. Maybe he paid the $1300.00 fee for a temporay carry permit.

Now, I am elated that a hoodie wearing member of the million man march is being sodomized by Gaghaffiiee (what ever) & Saddam but what was a car driver doing with a handgun in NYC?!?!? I thought that was illegal? That guy is no longer a peace officer and as such no more “privileged” to exercise his 2nd amendment rights as the average citizen. Nothing against the driver either, he did a great public service but my point is why is it OK for him to protect himself and not the rest of us? He in no longer on active duty, nor am I so why is it OK? WHY?!?

So we do live in a police state where anyone who volunteers to be part of the monitoring program for US citizens is allowed privileges above and beyond those of an ordinary citizen. Well, I think that we need to start enforcing our natural and 2nd amendment rights and everyone with a gun should carry everyday out in the open until the police state realizes that they are outnumbered and retreat or all join the Oathkeepers.

Frankly, I could care less that this man shot and killed a man running from committing robbery at gunpoint. But what I do care about is that a Marine has been charged with a felony for simply having a gun in the same city and that another Marine was shot dead in his own home while his wife and child hid for their lives when a militaristic SWAT “team” shot 50+ rounds of ammunition into him because they do not recognize the RIGHT of a citizen to own a firearm. And should I mention the case of an Oklahoma City resident who worked at a small drug store and when he was held up at gun point he shot and killed a teenage black kid and then got charged with murder by a rigged jury.
The system is corrupt and I stopped caring what laws they enact a long time ago. The whole thing needs to be torn down and we need to start over from scratch + Constitution.

What happens when the rich decide to move out of this country because of taxes? Then what? I wish someone would ask our Lier and Chief “Obamanation of Desolation” this question. I would love to know who would pay for everything then, if we had no upper class? Would he turn to the middle class? Just asking? As far as Booger, RIH “Rest In Hell”!….. Anyone comparing this to the Zimmerman v Martin incident deserves a nice warm spot in hell.

Martin was not fleeing a robbery scene, nor was he caring a weapon, nor was he shooting at police, nor was he wanted for violent crimes.

Zimmerman was not a former cop, nor was he protecting lives around him, nor was he reacting to events unfolding in front of him (he was out actively creating confrontation).

I seriously question your ability to reason in metaphor because the analogy you are deriving to fit this story is about as far off base as you can get.

The Pharmacist was forcing them to take all those awful drugs, even though he only needed a few for his sickly mudder. Charges should be brought against the street cops for responding so quickly, which started the justified killing spree of the drugstore patrons.

Glad that dirtbag got what he deserved. BUT, it brings up another question. Are “retired” law enforcement officers the only ones allowed to carry in NYC, besides police?? What about privite citizens?? Oh yea, that’s right. NO! They are not allowed to protect themselves……….

Thank Mayor Bloombutt private citizen‘s can’t carry in NYC, he is on a crusade. He has also tried to keep retiree’s from carrying, but failed about 4, 5 years ago. It‘s Bush’s fault cop’s are carrying retired, HR218 Law signed by him after Sept. 11. Thank god for him. In NYC, the easyest permit to get was the target permit. I remember getting one when I turned 21. Now 53 been carrying 31 years.

I agree…………..he stopped him from killing or wounding someone else. Wyatt was the one that started shooting first.
