Dramatic Video: Calif. Cop Shot in Neck During Shootout

(The Blaze/AP) — Detectives searched the scorched remains of a San Diego County home as they looked to learn whether a suspect who police said shot and wounded an officer had died in a fire or escaped.
The violence erupted after two El Cajon police officers responded shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday to a caller who said he saw a man with a gun who had started a fire, police Lt. Mark Coit said. One of the first two officers who responded was hit by gunfire that came from the house, he said.
The other officer, who was not injured, pulled the wounded officer to a safety, Coit said. The wounded officer was stable and alert after arriving at Sharp Memorial Hospital, Coit said, and later underwent surgery. His name was not released. Still, NBCSanDiego.com says the officer remains in critical condition.

After the shooting, the fire surged out of control, and firefighters with police protection and aid from a water-dropping helicopter put it out at about 7 p.m., Heartland Fire spokesman Sonny Saghera said.
Several homes in the area were evacuated and eastbound Interstate 8 was shut down while the fire burned. The freeway was reopened after about 90 minutes.
A SWAT team surrounded the house for much of the night, but turned the scene over to detectives when they determined it was safe, Coit said. He said no bodies had been found at the scene, and investigators were looking for the suspect or more victims.
“We will continue to investigate until we have definitely determined where he is, or whether he perished in the fire or got out,” Coit said.
Police received reports that two people were shot inside the house, but they have not been able to confirm them, Coit said.
Officers from San Diego, National City and Chula Vista, and deputies from the Sheriff’s Department were also at the scene to assist.
El Cajon is a suburb 15 miles northeast of San Diego.
Neighbor Pam Gatar who lives about a block from the scene said she was outside when she heard officers exchange fire with the suspect.
“We were walking towards the corner, and we start hearing gunshots, and we don’t understand why,” Gatar said. “There had to have been at least 15, 20 shots fired. Then we saw the police.”
Richard Ogunsalu, who lives in the same complex as Gatar, was in the shower when he heard sirens and ran outside to see police everywhere and the house burning.
“I saw about 30 police cars, it was like martial law in the streets, man,” Ogunsalu said. “There was black roaring smoke in the sky, it was crazy, it just kept coming up. It was like a movie man, it was surreal.”

Makes me wonder if you are intentionally lying in order to make what you believe to be a moral point. If that’s the case, lying to prove a point does nothing but strengthen the stance you’re against. I live an hour away from the crime scene, have a good friend that lives on Naranca where it happened, and if you watch the vids from the local NBC and CBS affiliate you will see pics of the man who pulled the trigger. LOL. I’m not trying to make a moral point. I just tell it like it is. If that guy is a central american immigrant, I’d be SHOCKED. El Cajon has a huge Caldean immigrant pool and a large pool if illegals from mexico. But this guy, he certainly does not look to be among any minority group.

Brutal crimes at that. You have to figure since white folks are 70% of the population that sooner or later one of them is gonna take a pot shot at an officer.

Cops know this sort of stuff can happen, does happen and is happening all too frequently these days. People seem to think these cops have to go through this, see it happen to other officers in their area and around the country, and then come up to someone suspicious, breaking the law, pulled over or whatever…and ACT LIKE MR. ROGERS!!!
No! They have a right as far as I’m concerned to come upon you in an intimidating manner in order to set you back on your heels and keep you from possibly doing something dumb. If they come up all smiles, happy-go-lucky & friendly…some jerk is going to think they can take on the officer.
It is time to up the charges and fines/time people who screw with cops get. Don’t forget, any criminal willing to fight, shoot at, wound or kill a cop…is a MAJOR threat to the average citizen.
Prayers going out to the officer and his family, friends and fellow officers. I too hope the shooter died a painful death in the fire!

I don’t like to see anyone shot, but I also do not like rogue cops running around shooting or threatening to shoot people who have not had their rights respected. SWAT teams busting i nthe wrong door and shooting everything in sight, a cop dragging a woman out of her car because she asks why she was stopped, a cop threatening to blow someone’s head off because he was carrying a concealed weapon legally.
I am not anti-cop, but I see our society becoming a police state, and we are losing our rights left and right. The Bill of Rights is being shredded before our eyes, and no one seems to care.
