Police officers rescued a man trying to kill himself by jumping off an apartment building in downtown Los Angeles Thursday, after the man was apparently distraught over a break up with his girlfriend.
According to KTLA, the man — legs dangling over the side of the building — bit the officer trying to hold on to him. Officers handcuffed him to the rail, which firefighters then cut and removed.
The man was placed on a psychiatric hold for evaluation.

She finally gets up the nerve to be responsible for herself and can’t take care of this guy who makes bad decisions (obviously), now he pulls this stunt, drawin her back into his situation. May she seek wisdom in all of this.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 3:09pmI knew a man who attempted suicide many time. He was rescued many times and survived each attempt.
Report Post »But he was determined and finally he succeeded.
Some people just cannot handle the messes they create for themselves and as a result their lives stink. They do not listen to any advice given by concerned associates, but continue, head down, into more and more turmoil. Turmoil they themselves create for the most part. Sad to have to watch it happen.

As a someone who experienced the death of a beloved baby brother to suicide, I only wish that someone could have been there to intervene. Even though the police were called to do a well-check on him, they merely drived by his house and did not go in. An hour later he took his life. Both of you show no passion or concern for your fellow man (mankind) in my opinion. It’s like both of you have never been totally crushed, let down, or cheated on, or whatever from a person of the opposite sex (ok, same sex,, whatever…). I’m as bad ass conservative as they come, but I still have a heart.
Anyone with any sense of decency would feel that for this guy, i’m sorry, but that is a very ugly take you guys have on this and I had to say something! He’s obviously pretty messed up, and this was his last desperate cry for help. Yes, it‘s screwed up he caused all this crap with the police force and all but it shouldn’t make him out to be a bad guy. I suspect that those of you who want to belittle this dude in the video think too highly of yourselves, and makes me wonder who’s really the messed up individual(s).
Sadly, yes,,, still speaking as a die-hard, true blue conservative, right leaning in all it’s forms,,,, nah,,, i’m not going to let you dudes affect my opinion on what it means to be compassionate for his fellow humans,,,, actually, let me take a step back,,,, yes, there are many on the left that would feel the same you do,,, “oh,,, who’s really the victim here” kind of thing. Posted on July 30, 2011 at 11:30pmI couldn’t help but notice that a reply to a cross-post didn’t take. Have no idea why, but I will continue to post until it takes! Some of the comments I’ve read regarding this story really makes me sick to the stomach. Sad thing is, believe it or not, you don’t need a certain political affiliation, right or left, extreme left/right to show how ugly people can be regarding this subject. Actually, it’s a subject I think both sides, even the middle can look down on. Yes, perhaps it’s a good thing in way. As a society, for our survival, we must take a dim view on this subject. Unfortunately however, this subject has left us with a very dim view of those who are, or have tried to express their anguish, hurt, pain but can’t seem to find any relief. What the hell is a matter with you people!!! In my opinion, those who cannot fathom what leads people to do this, are the most shallow, callous, uncaring people I can find. I can understand why the left take the stance they do, but not those on the right. Yes, you read that correctly. The right. I believe that it take much more compassion to be on the right, especially a conservative Christian than it does to be on the left. Yes, I can see a few on the left that do have compassion, but I hold those on the right much more accountable! That’s not who we are! Of course, when it comes down to it,,, back to my point, it’s a matter of understanding.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 5:48pmI agree. I think- every man has the right to make his own decisions then live (or die) with the consequences. Now, Taxpayers like me have to pay for his lockup, the police and fire-folk handling the mess, the apartment railing, the psych eval, and likely SS disability for the rest of his ‘saved’ life, so he can either go on being self-abusive or abuse others- whichever is his true cup-o’-tea. If he succeeds in driving his ex-sweetie crazy, then we get to support her, too. Next tax season, I am filling out my return with at least 5000 dependents- that is likely at least part of my share… maybe I will get a little compensation for taking care of these goofballs over the years. Any man or wo-man who really wants to commit suicide will succeed, regardless of who grabs them by the skivies and hangs on. He will get it done if he was even half serious. Meanwhile, we all get to pay for his goofy messes.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 6:16pmEmotions like that are intense but temporary. What you need is someone whispering in your ear, you’ll get through this, not “jump”. I have had severe depression many times in my life and wished for death, only my faith kept me from it. Everytime, when life turned around later, I was so glad I didn’t go through with it.
The statement that really stuck with me was a friend who said “you really don’t want out of life, you want out of the situation that you are in.” The wisdom of that statement really impacted me.

What they did was OUTSTANDING police work. They were protecting this man from himself. Everyone is so quick to jump into the minds of people involved in these stories… but, the focus goes the wrong way. I’m sure the officer getting bit as he was trying to hold onto him was not thinking he should let him go. 23 years in law enforcement has taught me a great deal. It‘s easy to say good riddance to someone we don’t know, or let him do it it’s his life. But did you ever stop to think what if it was someone you knew and loved? Did you ever stop to think of the damage to his family and friends this man would have left behind? Let alone the people who have to clean up the wreckage. These Officers gave this man a second chance to live his life to start over with a clean slate. But what really get‘s me is with all the bad Cop stuff that’s been posted very little was said about the good job theses Officers did.

I have been completely rejected many times in my life, and still love GOD with all my heart, and still am completely grateful for every breath I take, every ounce of water I drink, and every meal I eat- every smile from my grandbabies, and I could go on for hours about what I am grateful for, and still not mention most of it…and who the HAY cares if I get rejected by some fortune-seeker who talked me into thinking they loved me? Or rejection from some idiot who felt that alcohol was better than being married and having a family- or rejected by a male whore? Or, on, and on, et al, et al… I wouldn’t give the recipient of my anger and pain the satisfaction of knowing they had that much power over me! I would be the LAST person to EVER commit suicide. I do not feel sorry for this ingrate. I feel sorry for GOD, & for Jesus, because HE gave HIS life for an ingrate- for many of them, actually, and I will never EVER understand running from your little problems and trying to commit murder- whether or not the murder is aimed at yourself or at the person who hurt you. Either way, it is a wimp-thing to do. And an ingrate-attitude.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 12:54pmYes, being dead IS NO joke. I have worked in the medical field for over 20 years and dealt with everything from someone dieing of old age to accidents and everything else. I had to deal with taking the body of a 5 year old that slid off of a horse that the parents were leading around and we had to keep in the ER for over 4 hours watching her die because her cerebral fluid was leaking out of her ears and no matter what we tried we could not stop it. I took her body out because I was the only one in the entire medical personnel that was able to get up the energy to push her body down to the “cold room” so that a funeral home could take her body. I can tell you that while it may seem craas and rude and crude and insensitive for people to say things, in most cases they are not being that way. As difficult as doing that was and I still think of it frequently, I will tell you that I will say some things that can be taken as being any of those things I listed above. You are free to think that but if you did, you would not know what you are talking about. A minority of people will joke about things like this because they truly think its funny but the large majority of people will react by saying just about anything about it (including jokeing) even though that is not the way that they primarily intend for it to sound, it just makes them feel better about responding in that manner.

We shouldn’t get bent out of shape about the equation. Help those we can. We all have our gifts and talents. When a few refuse help, unfortunately, we move on to prepare ourselves and to be ready for the next one who needs us. If guy wants to jump off a building, we can attempt to stop himwhile clearing the area below so no one else gets hurt. Tomorrow, what use will this fellow have in your community if he doesn’t want help?
