Dramatic Video: Thai Security Officials Duck and Cover as Roadside Bomb Explodes

Russia Today has posted dramatic video showing security officials running for their lives as a roadside bomb, believed to have been planted by Islamists,* explodes in Thailand.

According to the video’s description, officials were investigating a previous explosion near an irrigation canal which had already killed two irrigation workers. As the officers and bomb squad were investigating, another bomb went off directly beside the men. The tail end of the explosion was caught on video, and shows the officers running for their lives and hitting the ground:

Six officers were injured in the blast, which officials said was detonated by a cell phone. After further investigation, officials found a third bomb nearby.

*UPDATE:

The Associated Press is reporting that police believe Islamist militants are responsible for the attacks:

Police Col. Nitinai Langyanay said the first bomb in Narathiwat province killed two irrigation workers Friday and wounded five others, while a second one about 1 kilometer (one-half mile) away wounded a soldier.

Bomb removal officers then tried to defuse a third bomb only three meters (yards) away from the second one but it exploded, wounding seven policemen. It is a standard practice of the insurgents to plant a second bomb to go off when security officials arrive to investigate an explosion.

More than 4,300 people have been killed in Thailand’s three southern provinces since an Islamist insurgency flared in 2004.

This has been going on since 2004. There has been 4300 non Muslims killed by the violence. It seems that son the Israel President is right doesn’t. My question is why do yu have to get this news off websites like jihadwatch.org and thereligionofpeace.com.\ and not from our MSM. Why aren’t they carrying this unformation. Just likw they don’t report on the violence in Nigeria.

First off the comment about the red shirts was ignorant. The red shirts are a group of puppets and Thaksin is the puppet master. His grand idea to oust the King and run the country will never fly. Lets talk about the radical muslims. I have lived in Asia for 11 years and have seen a steady increase of muslim presence that is frightening. They come to Thailand and take advantage of the Thais incredible kindness and treat them like dirt. You are absolutely right; they behead monks and kill innocent people who could care less about their religion. What if we beheaded one of their Imams? The press would go crazy as well as the muslim world. Religious tolerance my @#!. I recently retired from the special ops community after 24 years so I have seen my share of horrible things but none as horrible as a radical muslim that will kill children in name of his god. Wake up people before it is too late. True blooded American!

  You forget that only Muslims are innocent in their eyes. This is how they can look you face to face and claim that they don’t kill innocent people. If you are a Christian or a Jew, you are given the choice to convert or pay the tax. If you are any other religion, or no religion, you must be killed, according to their god. The followers of this mockery of a religion must do as they are told, without question. If anyone questions their belief, even as a student, they have insulted Allah and must pay the price.

Not sure enough people are really taking the time to appreciate how fortunate we have been here in the United States, that this type of occurence has not happened to more people since 9/11. We are really really fortunate. The day this horror does happen here, our country will stop. Then watch for the guillotine rolling up on stage. Watch the other hand because it could end up being yours.

The terrorists come from Malaysia and they have been trying to take over Southern Thailand for years. this is nothing new.The Thai military has been ambushed by trucks full of gunmen and it is a common thing to see this on Thai television.. The terrorists now have stepped up their technology compliments of terrorists in the middle east. The terrorists now are using IED with cellphone detonators. Thai airports have praying rooms for terrorists. Coming to an airport near you….soon.

  USA Medic my ass. WE don’t purposefully target INNOCENT civilians, put destrcutive devices where ANYONE could accidentally detonate them, and, in fact, we go OUT OF OUR way, even in war, to avoid collateral damage and civilian casualties when we go after our combatant enemies.

  Has nothing at all to do with the Red Shirts. This problem, as stated in the article is due to Islamist trying to take over the southern areas of Thailand. These terrorists mostly come from Malaysia and they think they can just take over. The Thai military has been fighting with these terrorists for years.

  Thailand has had problems for years in the Southern provinces because they border with Malaysia who have adopted Islam as the state religion. Of course wherever Islam is there is going to be hate, violence and intimidation because this religion is a barbaric and satanic one.
