Dress-Wearing Women Aren’t Crazy About Glass Staircase at New $105 Million Ohio Courthouse

Dress Wearing Women Arent Crazy About Glass Staircase at New $105 Million Ohio Courthouse

CNN:

For years, women across America have dealt with glass ceilings. But now, women in Ohio have a new problem – glass floors.

A $105 million courthouse opened in Franklin County, Ohio, on Monday, but the builders seemed to have forgotten one thing – the bottom of the stairs, reports affiliate 10TV. The staircase is made of glass.

Dress wearers need to avoid taking the stairs, according to Franklin County Judge Julie Lynch, who wears dresses under her robes almost every day.

“I wear dresses because that’s my personal choice,” Lynch told 10TV. “When you stand under the stairwell, you can see right up through them.”

WBNS-TV:

The news startled attorney Lori Johnson, who is a regular at the courthouse.

“Women won’t realize that and will just automatically assume that they can take the stairs safely,” Johnson said.

Johnson said that she worries not just about stolen glances, but also the prevalence of camera phones.

“Then, next thing you know, you’re on the Internet,” Johnson said.  (It) sounds like a lawsuit in the making.”

Lynch said that many people who visit the courthouse are there because of questionable choices.

“They hope people will be mature?  That’s not a solution,” Lynch said.  “If we had mature people that didn’t violate the law, we wouldn’t have this building.”

    Frost the glass, problem solved.

This isn’t about pervs, or youtube, this is about dignity. It should be enough that women say ‘you don’t get to look at me that way’. Technology has nothing to do with it.

Apply the same sunblocking film used on car windows or paint the underside. In our society it isn’t just a matter of teens peeking up skirts. The problem becomes pervs taking pictures, posting them on the internet or using them in their porn media. Too many adults in our society who no longer understand the meaning of ‘being adult.”

You’re a jerk. I was thinking just this morning about wearing baggy overalls because I did NOT like the attention that I was getting in regular jeans and tee shirt from the dirty old men where I was yesterday. Some women do have brains you know, and want to be recognized for that, not their looks.
As far as this staircase, I think women could just take the elevator rather than taxpayers foot the bill.

It could be used as a TSA training course?

Instead of spending millions or whatever to tear it down, simply put a jungle of plants under it, or better yet an Aquarium. But remove the glass and it appears to be just like any other stairs the cracks in between the steps.

Not all that go to the courthouse are there because they broke the law. Victims and their families, as well as witnesses have to be there.

The judge has the authority to require the stairs be fixed to be non-transparent. That should be done ASAP.

The best solution would be to sandblast the risers, giving them a ‘frosted’ look, then light would still pass through, but you could not see anything on the other side. If done properly, it could be very nice looking, as if it were the original plan.

Wait, I was thinking that the actual steps themselves were glass and transparent. Looking at the photos, this is not the case. This is a very common design that I’ve seen at many malls.

The guard sounds so awkward trying to describe the “hazard” to women in dresses. Haha.

Solution, install slab of frosted glass at the bottom of the stairs at an angle. Wouldn’t be able to tell a difference in the design and prevent peeping toms.

Wait a minute, the glass risers are no different than having open risers on the stair. The treads are solid so if someone was standing directly under the stair they wouldn’t be able to see anything. Unless a person was wearing super short skirt no one could see their junk, and if they were wearing a super short skirt their junk would be vulnerable to more than someone looking up under the stair. The geometry just isn’t there for perverts to be gathering for a cheap thrill, if they did they would be very dissapointed.

For government work, paint is too simple. It will first take a $1 million dollar grant to evaluate the problem with surveys of how women feel about someone looking up their dress and how many women actually wear dresses. After that they will go out for bids to various architects and issue a contract to the lowest bidder who will do a study on the lastest ethods of coating glass. After that a construction company will use the lastest technology to apply a special opaque glass fusing EPA approved coating that is guaranteed to last 1000 years. Total cost should be well under $5 million.

Its a glass stair case. What pathetic moron would be caught dead standing under a stair case enclosed in glass for all to see his act of perversion. Anyway the steps themselves are solid wood (no pun intended). You’d have to stick your head through the stair opening to see anything anyhow. Maybe 20/20 can do a show on “perv’s taken a sneak and peek” then the Host can run out and confront them.
