Dreyfuss Suggests He Channeled Inner ‘Hitler’ to Play Dick Cheney

Appearing on Monday’s “The Joy Behar Show,” actor Richard Dreyfuss explained how it was possible for him to play Dick Cheney, who he admits he doesn’t like, in the movie “W.”

Behar primes the pump with a question: “Okay. Where did you find it in yourself to go down and find that satanic spot that we all know so well?”

After some back and forth, Dreyfuss gives an answer: “I always say to kids, inside you is Hitler and Jesus. And you got to find the appropriate person and bring them out.”

NewsBusters offers a transcript of the relevant part:

BEHAR: Now, you played a bad guy in “Red” and you also played a bad guy in “W,” one of my favorite movies. So funny.

DREYFUSS: Which you said I would never do. He would never do that. He would never play Dick Cheney. He’s a liberal.

BEHAR: I was wrong. I was wrong. But was it hard to play Dick Cheney?

DREYFUSS: It’s a big person –

BEHAR: Where did you find in yourself — because I know that you`re not a fan of Cheney. I know that.

DREYFUSS: I‘m not a fan of Cheney’s.

BEHAR: OK. Where did you find it in yourself to go down and find that satanic spot that we all know so well?

DREYFUSS: Are you leading me somewhere? First of all, every actor likes the play bad guys.

BEHAR: Yes.

DREYFUSS: And it just so happen in the last few years I played all Republican bad guys.

BEHAR: Oh, yes.

DREYFUSS: That’s just a coincidence. And to play Dick Cheney, all I had to do was find my Dick Cheney. And you can find all the villainy in the world in your own heart, and that`s what an actor`s job is.

BEHAR: That`s right.

DREYFUSS: I always say to kids, inside you is Hitler and Jesus. And you got to find the appropriate person and bring them out.

These Hollywood types are going to be shocked when people stop going to watch their movies. I have found some wonderful new Christians who are making wonderful movies about this country and families. I am choosing to watch them and no longer go to see or watch on TV any of the movies or programs that these types make! I can’t wait for it to hit them in their wallets. Also I see a lot of them trying to do ads. I will not buy products that they do ads for. They will get it sooner or later.

They would initiate EDUCATION CAMPS, political prisons and when the going got rough, FIRING SQUADS for the likes of Dick Chaney (and me). Don‘t think it couldn’t happen here. “truly born again”? What are you talking about? Are you saying that born again means that our sinful nature is detroyed? Hardly. It will be in the Resurrection, but until then we all have to wrestle with it. Born again means that now we have God’s Spirit within us fighting the battle with us.

Dreyfus only reveals that he is a bad actor. How would he play Hitler? Who would he channel? He shows that his acting job was simply to show a characiture not a real person. A true actor would try to understand his character as a human being with flaws and strengths. But it’s easier to go through life in hollywood and liberaltown with a cartoon view of the universe, and few directors require them to go deeper, especially when portraying their enemies.

Mary, we will to have to agree to disagree about Cheney.

This isn’t directed at you Mary.

Being born again means that one has the constant right to direction from the Holy Ghost. When one is baptized into the Restored Gospel, one has the Priesthood of God lay their hands upon the converts head and given the GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST.

When we are baptized, we wash away all our sins. When we sin again, we repent and the atoning blood again washes away our sins. In Mormon Sunday practice. , we paratke of the Sacrament each Sunday which is a time of recognition of Christ‘s atonement and when we once again wash away the past week’s sins.

Being born again, having that MIGHTY CHANGE OF HEART means we have no desire to do sin. Being human, however, we will sin again.

IF WHAT I’VE SAID IS WRONG IN A FUNDAMENTALISTS OR EVANGELICALS EYES I ACCEPT YOUR ASSIGNMENT OF ME TO HELL. I KNOW THAT YOU8 SAY I BELIEVE IN A DIFFERENT JESUS THAN YOU. I sure do and wouldn’t have it any different.

In case you missed it, Dreyfus was making light of some of the things she liked/disliked. he was doing a mild mocking of her.

The funniest movie ever made was “What about Bob.” Dreyfus and Murray were a perfect match. I will go at any Dreyfus movie that is rated PG, but NOT R.

When history looks back on Cheney, it will see that he was the House/Wilson behind Bush. Cheney’s very appearance to me exudes an evil inner person. That smirk of his shows his feelings os superority. His “advice” led to both Iraq and Afghanistan. IF 911 was indeed done by dark forces within the Bush Admin, I would bet that Cheney was a part of those dark forces.

I don’t see the same “evil” that you do when I see him or hear him speak. I see intelligence, determination, confidence and gravitas. I see someone who could actually make this country what it should be. Unfortunately, the country doesn’t have the will to do so.

I’m so tired of people claiming Dick Cheney is “Evil.” This is a man who cares about American exceptionalism, is a Chrisitan who walks the walk, and gives more than 75% of his personal income to charities which benefit the poor and advance medical research. How many of us can say we give 3/4 of our income to charity? Sounds closer to what Jesus asked of us than to anything Hitler ever did. I‘m POSITIVE Doofuss doesn’t give that portion of his income to charity. It would be nice if people would actually look into those they intend to vilify before placing then onto the proverbial cross. http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2006/4/15/02358.shtml

It’s great that Chaney and his Mormon wife gave away $7 million. How much of that came from the immoral acts done by Halliburton? Blood money that needed to soothe Cheney’s conscience? How much was from his wife’s books.” How much was from his wife’s influence?.

Lastly, how was this found out? Jesus says when giving chariry, “Don’t let the left hand know what the right hand is doing.” If it’s for the praise of man then the person already has his reward.

Get mad at me all you want. Cheney‘s actions in demanding America’s invasion of Iraq and change the nature of the war in Afghanistan from going ONLY after Al Quida (this was approrpiate as a defensive act) to nation building caused more blood and destruction than $7 million .

Heaven’s there have been many calls saying we need a new investigation: that the first one was a “coverup.” Also, there are over 1000″ architects, structural engineers, demoltion experts and physical and chemical scientists who question the govt’s official explanations.

You can‘t retake our Constitutional Republic back by denial and heading one’s head in the sand. IF you don’t KNOW who your true enemies are, you can never win. Do some serious investigating.

Contrarian – gotta tell ya, that whole contrarian thinker thing, not working in your case – might want to think of a new name. That means you need to do your own research and use the good common sense God gave us all, and not be a follower of lunatics. The ONLY people I have ever heard spew the vicious, vile trash about our own gov’t killing three thousand of our own citizens and throwing our country into a deep financial hell hole are Hollywood nutjobs and HuffPo-, MoveOn-reading miscreants who cannot think for themselves. I really didn’t think you fell into that category based on many of your posts, though I don’t always agree with you, but at least I wouldn’t have put you in that category. So, please be so kind as to tell me (in your own words, what YOU really think) the reason our government would have done something so stupid. It wasn’t for the oil, we haven’t taken one drop of it, we turned over complete control to the Iraquis after spending millions to get the system back up. It wasn’t to start a war with Muslims, we sure as hell wouldn’t have to kill our own people to do that, just draw a sick cartoon of Muhammad, and it wasn’t an excuse to kill off Hussein (a well-placed Seal team could have done that). So then, the reason for putting our own country into a multi-billion dollar war(s) without asking anything of the Iraquis except for their partnership by destroying some of our most beloved architectural icons and killing the thousands of people in them was for what?

There are over 1000 chemists and physicists, plus structural engineers , plus demoltion experts, plus architects all calling for a truly indpendent investigation of 911. Are all these leftist Bush haters??? To make this VERY CLEAR. I know of not one of these people who say Bush and Company were behind the attacks. That is a false strawman used by many 911 Truth deniers.

From long expereince, I‘ve found that 911 Truth deniers don’t want to take the time to KNOW but rely totally on talking points.

Though there are far too many poeple posting to these articles for me to have the time to read every one, I try to read as many of the ones from frequent posters as I can. And, while we certainly don’t have to agree on everything, I just get furious when hear the talk of the gov’t conspiracy against 9/11. No one (including you in your post) can come up with even one, single viable reason why the gov’t would have done such a thing. All the original opinions about oil, etc have been disproven umpteen times and no one else has come up with any reason that makes sense, so they avoid the issue, again, as you did. And I have heard countless times about all the engineers, etc who claim this and that, but even a 7th grade science student knows that if steel gets hot enough it melts. And thousands of tons of jet fuel burning intensely for that period of time certainly would do it. But let’s not waste time debating it, it’s been debated to death and neither of us would change our minds anyway. I was just surprised to hear it from you.

Jesus said, “Blesserd are the PEACEMAKERS for they shall be called the children of God.“ The logical corrolary of that is ”Cursed are the warmongers for they shall be called the children of Satan.” Jesus is the PRINCE OF PEACE NOT THE PRINCE OF WAR.

I will forward to the all the rationalizations given when Jesus words and actions are so plain.

Sailor, by moderate Libertarian I mean the following:

      1. Free markets with a strong legal system backing them up. Free trade IF all parties act that way. NO UNILATERAL FREE TRADE WHICH IS THE POSITION OF A PURIST LIBETARAIAN.
      2. Small govt at both the national and federal level. Power resting in the people and their local communities.
      3. Noninterventionist foreign policy with a military policy centered on protecting the land of America not everyone in the world
      4. A recognition that there is truly no such thing as a “victimless crime.”
      5. A belief that liberty can only maintained in a moral society. Pure libertarians support prostitution, abortion, etc.

      I hope I didn’t bore you.

VOODOO, certainly there is a need for defensive wars. The Bible clearly shows that. But peace should still be sought until an attack is made. I think the Cheney policy of PREEMPTIVE WAR is very wrong. This is a doctrine introduced by Cheney that never was considered sane and moral in all of America’s past. It is a sure sigtn of our deteriating morality in the USA.

Contrarian, on your prior comments about being an actor, I think the objection most of us have with Richard’s comments is that he is calling Cheney evil and a bad guy. I don’t expect any less from Richard; he is a raging left winger, and that is well known. I just get tired of them (celebrities) calling something good and calling something evil and having people take it as the last word. Celebrities are no smarter (and sometimes a damn sight more stupid) than the average American. I often find their knowledge base and moral compass appallingly lacking.

WWIII has begun in case you haven’t noticed. It’s just not noticed because of its suttleness. And, we are in a police state or more so a martial law state. Because of the slow process of our system and by far the lack of proper reporting, we the people are the last to know about this. And face it, some are just too busy to care, too much on their minds. They will care after another 2 years of this administration.

Wyoming: True but the context clearly shows what Jesus meant. He was referring to the fact that His message would cause great strife among members of the same household, rulers, etc. Jesus was NOT calling for a shooting war? This is a perfect example of twisting scripture to rationalize being a warmonger.

Facts, you’re absolutely correct and that war against Constitutional personal freedoms started on 911 when Cheney and Co were in charge and decided without proper evidence to invade Iraq. It was also Cheney and Co who decided to expand the War in Afghanisten from knocking off Al Quida and leaving to NATION BUILDING which is a key foundation of NeoCon desires.

Yeah, and I’m quite certain that if I were a well known actor, the last thing I would want the public to know is my politics, or what was really in my heart. We got Dreyfuss, Cusak, Sean Penn, Matt Damon, blah, blah, blah etc. etc etc who have pretty much stepped in it up to their eyeballs. The list goes on. These are Hollyweirdo’s I, and millions of others, will never spend any money to see.
