    He was safe inside the crash cage. I’ve seen far worse where the driver walked away. The people in danger were of course the fans who had pieces of car flying all around them. At the end a tire comes slamming down right next to someone who would most likely have been killed had it landed on him. They cut the video short about 30 seconds too soon. I wanted to see people shaking each others hands for being alive.

    The blonde reminds me of the demos and leftists, commies, pinkos, etc., congress in today’s world…. and our administration with AMERICA and the world disintegrating around them, the walk heedlessly on only involved in their own tiny little world.

    Some miracles happened there, folks; and as always, some people “got it” and some people, even those most blessed by what happened, didn’t/don’t. Makes you wonder why GOD even tries with us, doesn’t it?

    GOD, I just want to say, Good Morning to YOU and “THANK YOU!” for those specific miracles yesterday. Help me have open eyes, YOUR own heart and a willing spirit to see all the miracles YOU give me in my life this very day. I don’t want to be unaware of YOUR love and protection over and around me, ever. In the name above all names, JESUS THE CHRIST, amen.

    Actually, the worst racing accident of all time happened at Le Mans in 1955, when about 83 spectators and a driver were killed when a car went over a guard rail. That is why there weren’t any Mercedes race cars for about 30 years.

    It looks impressive, but it’s hardly unprecedented… they are designed to disintegrate to shed energy and absorb impact. The driver’s compartment is practically indestructible.

    Not quite sure why it’s Blaze-worthy. Anyone who watches auto racing sees this on a regular basis, and YouTube is full of similar videos.

      the 2 audi wrecks were spectacular and amazing because no one was hurt.

      audi’s second car got clipped and went head on with the armco on the molsane straight at 190+. walked. away. its not so much seatbelts that saved them, it was the general design of the car/titanium tub

    Engineers design and build things to the absolute limits, and then move those goal posts even farther with every try. Cars, tracks, sand traps, and barriers; all with two purposes, build it better and save lives.

      The need to compete has been a part of humanity for a long time. Personally, I would rather see boxing and horse/dog racing go away. Auto racing abuses machines, boxing and horse or dog racing abuses people and animals, respectively. [Mind you, I have no wishes for the government to ban any of these sports.]

      @nomercy63: Where do you think auto innovation comes from, your local auto union? I don’t think so. Why do you think tires have evolved to be as safe as they are, auto racing. Why do you think cars now have crumple zones, auto racing. Why do you think motors have evolved into the lightest and most efficient energy producing forms of the internal combustion system, auto racing. Auto racing has contributed as much or more to auto safety and efficency than any other form of research out there.

      I agree. Audi’s are designed for the 170 I did in a A7 from Munich to Inglestat last month.

      The safety in the race cars are top notch. And there are no airbags. Makes me wonder what would happen if cars were built better and the thousands sent on airbags were better spent on other safty measures. How many more lives would be saved.

      @iamevilhomer

      Be careful what you wish for. You may just get it. The Progressives in charge of the DOT could mandate it to “protect the children.” A car would then cost around $250,000. Emission problem solved. Infrastructure problem solved. But by God the cars would be safe.

      A few examples from an F1 car: gas tank $10,700; fire extinguisher $3,200; brakes $15,120; wheels & tires $7,800, chassis $117,000, etc.

    When you consider the advances in safety technology in all the various types of auto racing over the last decade, it‘s not really all that surprising that the driver wasn’t seriously injured. It IS amazing though that none of the people standing there were hurt.

      Seat belts do save lives but I am here today because I WASN’T wearing one. After laying a semi on it’s passenger side, the steering wheel impaled the seat where I was sitting just a moment before. God was looking out for me on that day. Still glad no one was hurt, goes to show that all the safety features on these race cars and around the track work.

      Actually, with speed being equal, the spectacular accidents are safer because the car itself is taking a lot of the energy out of the impact. Its the high speed ones accidents with little damage to the vehicle that are more deadly to the driver.
