D‘Souza’s Anti-Obama Documentary No.1 at Box Office Friday

Dinesh D‘Souza’s anti-Obama documentary, “2016: Obama’s America” began playing in 1,090 North American theaters on Friday and is opening as the number one movie at the domestic box office today, Deadline reports.

Playing in a third of the theaters as some big-budget Hollywood blockbusters like “The Expendables 2” (3,335 theaters), D‘Souza’s intriguing look into the life of President Obama is showing incredible promise. Rocky Mountain Pictures is releasing the documentary.

And while the Stallone action flick previously mentioned from Millenium/Lionsgate will likely finish the weekend on top of the box office, “2016” should, going off matinee trends, hold its own and is expected to rake in $3.7-$5 million by the end of the weekend.

Deadline has the exclusive on this story:

The Stallone picture from Millenium/Lionsgate is still expected to end the weekend #1 and should top the box office tonight. And, based on matinee trends, 2016 Obama’s America looks to gross $1.2M-$1.7M Friday for a $3.7M-$5.0M weekend.

But right now it has grossed $700,000 today compared to $300,000 for The Expendables 2. Its new cume after this weekend could make it the #1 conservative documentary (ahead of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed’s $7.7M). The success of the anti-Obama pic is based on big pre-sales leading into the Republican National Convention August 27-30, and exhibitors are reporting busloads of filmgoers arriving at theaters around the country in pre-organized trips. It also employed much of the same marketing techniques used to garner attention and support for faith-based films, understandable since the audience is overlapping. Its campaign included advertising nationally over the past two weeks on talk radio and cable news channels including Fox News Channel, A&E, History and MSNBC.

Both online ticket-sellers Fandango and MovieTickets.com showed advance buying for 2016 Obama’s America were accounting for 35% to 28% respectively before this weekend. The pic is based on conservative author and commentator Dinesh D’Souza’s New York Times bestselling 2010 book The Roots Of Obama’s Rage and co-directed by D’Souza and John Sullivan and produced by Academy Award winner Gerald R. Molen (co-producer of Schindler’s List). It opened on July 13th in a preview on a single screen in Texas grossing almost $32,000 during its opening weekend, then expanded into 61 theaters including New York and Los Angeles. In August, the film widened to 169 theaters nationwide and expanded again this weekend. “Yes, I also didn’t believe it when I first saw the film taking off in pre-sales on Tuesday,” an exhibition insider tells me. “Because there’s not a lot of new product that’s taking off.”

      Saw the movie yesterday. Long line to purchase my ticket.
      Movie theater was full and when the movie ended the clapping began.

      At the end of the movie, someone said, see you Nov. 6 – some else replied – you better believe it!

      That’s a sign of a popular movie….. I remember when the first Narnia movie came out, our church “pre-purchased” an entire theater and all carpooled to the showing to watch it together. The pre-purchase was because we were excited about it and wanted to secure our spot.

      So, your point is actually a positive for 2016, not a negative. So, i don’t get your lame logic…

      I think its hilarious when Christian movies are making millions more than Sex Filled and Hate Filled Violence movies! I had to explain it the other day to my daughters! Once I told them, they thought that was the Neatest thing ever! I kind of look at it as the same thing some Businesses do and only working six out of seven days a week; and leaving Sunday as the Lords Day! I believe its a proven Fact that Businesses that do this, make more money than the ones that don’t. Chick Fillet is one but I know their are many others also!

      Well, perhaps that has something to do with the fact that not everyone has a theater showing this locally. I’m sure many groups are interested in seeing the film, but don’t have a theater right around the corner.
      I drove 2 hours to Philly to see many “indie” films.

      Went to see this at noon today. I learned a few things Glenn hasn’t mentioned but most of it was, for us, common knowledge. Card carrying Liberals should receive free access to this movie, as they’re the ones who really need to see this. Very good film.

      I buy movie tickets online ahead of time – I also have multiple forms of legitimate ID and can show up to the polls with any number of them.

      Hmmm, this must be beyond the reach of liberals who can’t do the basics but can cheat the system into paying their way through life by hooking up with multiple government welfare programs while committing simple and complex crimes along way – BUT can’t figure out how to prepay for a movie or carry a legitimate ID…

      We are going tomorrow to see this movie. I rarely go to movies because of the prices, but this movie is well worth it. It is factual and in Obamas own words. Perhaps you, verce of unreason, should go see it. You actually just might learn something. This President was never vetted, this movie does the job the mainstream media has refused to do.       My wife and I went to the 2;20 in portland maine friday .The theater was two thirds full and no buses in sight.It was the first time we have gone to see a movie in years.It was nice to watch a movie with adults ! It was a very pleasant hour and a half and and every one seemed to enjoy it .

      I haven’t seen the movie, but I have heard D’Souza talk about it, and I don’t agree with his evaluation of Obama.

      For starters, Obama espouses all the evil isms, but anti-colonialism is not what makes him tick; communism is. Barack is essentially a passionate community organizer, i.e., a low-grade commie. The only reason he was groomed for the WH was because – you guessed it – he’s black. The powers that be knew they could play the race card to ward off any criticism leveled at the first black president.

      Second, D’Souza also fails to perceive Obama’s intentions. He thinks Obama is misguided but sincere. Nothing could be further from the truth. Obama has betrayed America because he is an evil man. The only MO Obama knows is corruption, and he is a pathological individual in that he is completely devoid of love of country.

      Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad the movie came out; it probably sheds some much-needed light on who we are up against. But D’Souza was raised in India, and he speaks from the perspective of an outsider. That is why he is unable to interpret Obama’s actions as treason.

      You can’t deny the movie is a hit. It’s doing a lot better than Atlas Shrugged, which was the last movie this distributor released. It’s going to surpass $5miillion in ticket sales this week.

      The movie took in about $5500 per screen it’s first week and rose to $7500 per screen in week two.
      7500 divided by 10 bucks a ticket divided by 4 showings a day divided by 7 days is 26 people per showing.

      $5 million divided by 10 bucks a ticket is half a million tickets sold to

      311,000,000 Americans

      It’s called a “bus trip,” and is often sponsored by senior centers, social groups, community groups, churches, and other groups of individuals that do not own cars, do not drive long distances, do not drive at night, want to travel with others and meet new people to talk and discuss the content with. . . Often these groups have dinner together and are delivered home safe, sound, and have had an enjoyable afternoon or evening out!

      The “presale” tickets are a must for groups coming to an event!!! And, here’s the big news, THE PARTICIPANTS PAID FOR THEIR OWN EXPENSES–the bus, the tickets, the dinner, etc.!

      Just because dems and liberals pad events, doesn’t mean that other do the same. Sometimes people with some experience and brains just want to know what is going on and they get themselves out, pay the costs, attend, discuss and enjoy.

      Hateful, nasty, angry liberals wouldn‘t understand I’m sure. . .

      Fortunately there is the unseen realm of Him Who has given us His precious promises in the Bible, Who is the same yesterday, today and forever. While we still do all that we can do in the natural realm such as vote for those who are the most Godly, I recall a promise that He will not allow the sceptor (authority) of the wicked to rest on the land of the righteous. This righteouness comes by faith

      Would you care to comment on the facts presented in the movie? Four of us drove an hour to see the movie. At the end of the movie, there was applause. And this was in the bastion of liberalism, the San Francisco of the east, Ithaca, NY. I would recommend that you see the movie.       My Husband and I purchased our tickets online and went to see it last weekend in Ohio.
      I must say, I was skeptical before we went because we are up to date on just about everything these days. But……….we were amazed at WHAT WE DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS EVIL MAN, BARACK OBAMA.

      Obama prevented the pipeline from going through, but then he sent all this taxpayer money to Venezuela and 2 other southern countries below us for their oil, we did not know.

      There were quite a few things I did not know and it just makes me angrier by the day that we, the people, have allowed this man to stay in office. WHY AREN’T WE SCREAMING AT CONGRESS, LITERALLY, TO IMPEACH THIS MAN – EVEN NOW? The left tried to impeach Bush, so what’s the deal with all of you? COWARDS. GLENN SAID IT VERY WELL IN HIS BOOK.

      Americans have become so complacent, selfish with their STUFF, and dumbed down, they can no longer be the people this country was founded upon!

      I have spent the last 3 years irritating the heck out of our state’s politicians. THEY KNOW ME BY NAME, WHEN I CALL!!! How about you??????? DO THEY KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU STAND FOR OR ARE YOU A COWARD, TOO???

      I saw 2016 last week during a weekday matinee. I was surprised by how many people were there. There were the same number of people I would have expected for a Hollywood blockbuster. People brought their whole family too, including young children.

      In my walk as a believer, I sometimes see a tragedy and instantly look for God. God doesn’t always jump out, you have to look for him. Not in the cause of the crisis, but in the direction the crisis turns.

      When I heard that Molin the Producer of Schindler’s List, was also Producing 2016, I was pleased. I went to see Schindler’s List years ago when it came out, not to learn about the horror of the Holocaust, but to answer a burning question I had, where was GOD! That Movie brilliantly answered it in Schindler’s actions. Schindler, original sole purpose was to profit from the death of Jews and the others that were killed in the Holocaust and profit he did. Until God changed his heart. Schindler had a tremendous change of heart and end the end spent every penny he had to save 100′s of Jews from certain death. Schindler eventually died a financially broke man because of his actions, but Israel and the Jewish Tradition lives on because of one man’s change of heart.

      Schindler helped save Jewish Doctors, Scientist, Historians, Educator and Religious Professors that has allowed the Jewish heritage to live and survive.

      I now asked the same question today – “Where is God in America?” I feel that God is using a Brilliant and humble man from India to help save America from destroying itself. Not because of our Righteousness as a Nation or as a People, but because God needs America for his work.

It is not hearsay or something I have made up. I have heard D’Souza on numerous occasions and his position is always the same, namely, that he doesn’t think Obama is evil or a traitor.       The movie was #1 per theatre you moron. It was #4 overall with 1/3 the amount of theatres. Obviously, it was a packed house wherever it was shown, with almost no advertising compared to movies like The Expendables 2.

      Actually, if you want to go that route, according to per-theater average, the movie “Little White Lies” was #1 on Friday, with $2300 per theater, compared to Dinesh’s $2067 per theater.

      Even though that is not how #1′s are determined, you and “The Blaze” are still wrong either way. Actually, you’re not wrong. You’re lying and trying to twist facts to suit your desired outcome. I‘m happy for the movie’s success, but I’m not happy about the lying by this website. And I’m not happy that the people that read this website just believe what they read without checking facts.

      So, there’s no need for name-calling, as you did, but you might want to do what your screen name indicates.

      Went to the 4 o’clock show yesterday, sold out. The prior two shows had sold out. The evening shows were expected to sell out. The crowd at the show I went to was all white, mostly over 60 years of age, looked like an even mix of men and women.

      We saw it this afternoon. The showing was sold out. I learned little since I pay attention. However hearing it all as a condensed version of all I’ve learned through several sources, was an eye opener. Much of the damning evidence to support D Suzas’ theory came from the lips of ObaMao himself in his own words from his own book, yet STILL many will ignore the truth of his radical ideology and vote for him again, which is a vote for the destruction of America.

      Went to go see this movie last Sunday in NW Indiana and like others said it was packed. There were no posters or anything in the lobby or outside of the building saying this video was even playing.. I asked the popcorn guy that and he just looked at me with a stupid look on his face..I am one of the many sleeping giants that watched my income fall over 50% since the election and i want to thank Glenn for teaching me history and telling the truth while he was doing it..We have a long ways to go and a short time to get there.. I think we are the people that will save the country!!!

    Saw the film last weekend, it was a packed audience, at the end everyone stood up an applauded.

    I found the film to be very insightful and offers context to the president’s past. Dinesh D’Souza is a wonderful scholar and offers books on this films subject with more details that are also worth absorbing.

    Barry has covered up his past and driven people to question it. Many unanswered questions have led to the birth certificate debates. Which Barry mocked and never fully disclosed to the people making the issue of his past irrelevant in the eyes of the media. This movie should make “birthers” understand that the issue is not where he was born, but rather how he was brought up and by whom. The “birther” issue was opening the door to a much larger and more serious topic. This film gets us on the path of laying it out for everyone to see and address it.

    I saw the movie today with my husband and nephew here in Richmond, VA! I guess the movie was interesting and well done. However, I had already done my own homework and have the books “Cowards”, “Duped” and the Frank Marshall Davis biography from Kengor. I also have seen the “Rumors of War” parts one, two and three by Glenn Beck. All of this added together with a pitcher of the Glenn Beck program, a blender full of the Rush Limbaugh show and Facebook debates with Liberals tackling their far left scrutinization has left me an educated young woman. I’m 34 years old. I wish that their were more people from my generation at the theater today- there were plenty of old school there (seniors). I think we brought the cherry on top with our 16 year old nephew! And yes, for any shadowed libs that want to criticize me on this blog, I chose to spend my day without the kids at the gun range shooting my AR-15 and watching this movie at the theaters. Can you smell the gunpowder? Whoop whoop! :) Sipping a glass of wine now. It’s been a long day!

    I saw the movie. It was great in that it shows you who Obama really is and why. I would have loved for it to have gone even further. I do not see how anyone who loves our country could watch this movie and still vote for him. I was glad to see this coming to light. However, it did leave me with a sick feeling that someone like that could be our President! We all should fear what would happen if he wins…..we lose sooooo much! God bless America…..please help us!

      Saw this movie last week. I was surprised by the number of people in the theatre. No applause at the end – i think we were all in shock. Obamas “father” was a drunk and a breeder. He had wives and kids all over the place. Died at age 46 after driving into a tree. Obama’s half brother , George, called Dinesh Desouza and asked for 1000 dollars to pay his son’s hospital bill. George was asked why he didn‘t call O’bama and his answer was his half-brother doesn’t help any of the family. Mr. Desouza paid the entire bill.
      The Democrats are trying to scare seniors into voting for O’bama in order to keep their health care. I don’t know what the Romney/Ryan ticket holds as far as health care, but NOTHING can convince me to vote for our current non-leader.
      I urge anyone who hasn’t seen this movie to go. You owe it to yourself and this country.

    It opened today in Connecticut and my husband and I joined 8 other seniors at the 4:00 PM showing. The movie was terrific, as was the book, but of course the only publicity (that I have heard) has been on talk radio. This movie will depend on word of mouth, so if you thought it was important, please talk it up. I mentioned it to the young man who waited on us at dinner (local college student) and he had never heard of it and expressed that he “knows” that things are getting worse in this country and he’s accepted it. No sense that he can change it, and no interest in “politics”. Very discouraging. But I tried and maybe he’ll think about it. Most people don‘t follow through on something unless they’ve heard it more than once. So please: become a “pest” in promoting this movie!

      I saw it last week and it is supposed to open in over 1000 theaters this week. But I am also a senior in Florida and we need to get the younger people to go see it. Our tea party is trying to get the younger people there by buying their ticket.

    I took my 21 year old daughter to see it. After the movie a lady came up to her and asked if she had learned anything. She replied I already pretty much knew a lot of obama’s history. The lady said, well spread the word.”

    This movie is a real eye-opener for the individual who wants to know who obama really is. D’Souza tells the story we should have known in 2008. Even obama’s supporters are saying that his perspective comes from a perspective that run counter to America as we know it. Kinda makes a birth certificate irrelevant. After seeing the movie you know why he does what he does to our country.

    My wife and I just saw it today, We liked it, but also was a little disappointed he didnt concentrate more on the material from Obama’s America. It is a very good movie, takes most of the material from the Roots of Obama’s Rage. The interviews were great, worth the price of admission.

      Dinesh has done the job the so called media should have done in 08,but they had their agenda and most people know what that is.Roots of Obama’s rage was a great book indeed and he exposed Barry for what he is,too bad more people haven‘t read it although after four years of the walking talking disaster that is BS the book really isn’t necessary.

      By the way, we tried to go see the movie last weekend, completely sold out. They have acutally moved it to the movie theatre near our house and have it showing at 4 movie theaters in Colorado Springs. I hope they do the same with Atlas Shrugged Part II. Coming Oct 12.       If you have Netflix, search for her biography. I did and it opened my eyes. YES, she liked freedom, but she did not believe there was a God, even though she would say religious words. She also believed in abortion.
