Dubai Gym Pulls Ad Campaign Featuring Auschwitz Concentration Camp

A Dubai gym is finding its way into international headlines after its founder decided to use the Auschwitz concentration camp in an online ad campaign. The Circuit Factory gym apparently posted the black and white photo of the entrance to the infamous camp on its Facebook page with the slogan “say goodbye to your calories.”
After receiving a scalding response for its lack of sensitivity, the ad was subsequently removed hours after it was posted. Apparently uploaded with the titled “New Poster Campaign — aka Politically Correct,” it seems evident that the offensive nature of the ad was known from the start.
”It was only a provocation but if it was badly received then I apologize,” said Phil Parkins, 32, who founded Circuit Factory. Parkins went on to say that the image had been chosen because ”the programme that the gym offers, in terms of calories, is like a concentration camp.”
He also took to the Twitter to apologize as well, writing, ”Apologies for the insane poster campaign that was put up this morning. The creative guy has been told where to go.”
Three other posters were also removed after they were said to be too vulgar as well.
“The idea of the campaign isn’t to upset anybody. The way branding works is … you want people talking about your business,” Parkins said. We want them talking about us, but we don’t want people to take offence at it.”
Clearly, Parkins and his team underestimated the response they’d receive.

I guess we should be thankful for the fact that these people are admitting the existence of concentration camps. However; the advertisement is disgusting and disgraceful. Concentration camp prisoners are very different from people who are voluntarily going to the gym to be fit. What’s next; the poster comparing concentration camps to spas? Too bad the Circuit Factory wasn’t compelled to donate some of their proceeds from the mishap to promote Holocaust education/awareness.
