Dubai Reports First Suicide Jump From World’s Tallest Skyscraper

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A man committed suicide on Tuesday in a plunge of 39 floors from a segment of the world’s tallest skyscraper in Dubai, according to reports in the local media.

The reports cite security officials saying the man fell from the 147th floor of the 2,717 foot-tall (828-meter) Burj Khalifa and landed on a deck on the 108th floor. It is the first known suicide from the landmark tower, which opened in January 2010.

Reports on the websites of the Gulf News and 7 Days newspapers say the man jumped Tuesday after a dispute with his company.

Police did not immediately reply to calls by The Associated Press for further details.

According to the tower’s owner, Emaar Properties, the half-mile-high skyscraper has 160 habitable stories. An observation deck is located on the 124th floor and a restaurant — billed as the highest in the world — is located just two floors bellow.

Emaar could not immediately be reached to comment on Tuesday’s incident.

    This is wrong in so many ways.

    1) The tower is 160 floors. To start at 147 only shows a lack of effort.
    2) Not realizing a platform is at 108 is lack of basic math skills (choose another approach angle)
    3) Not at least having a catchy phrase to be heard and remembered says you should have just
    parked in the garage and shut the doors.

    I don’t like making light of a permanent solution to a temporary problem, but you almost have to.

    Cool ,maybe they should put in and express lift to the top floor and charge for the trip up and no charge for the trip down, now what does it cost for cat litter to clean up the mess anyway

    Very cool I want to see the video. I takes alot of guts to jump from anywhere. Was he screaming Alha Akbar on the way down. They need to install a diving board that sticks out away from the building so the jumpers to colide with the building. It is a very nice structure, we would want splatter on it.

    If there‘s a super tall building or a super tall bridge it’s gonna happen eventually. I will be surprised if Mr. Obama doesn’t step up and put out an edict (Executive Order) that all buildngs will not exceed 10 feet tall.
