    Gubmint and How Gubmint Works

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, “Someone may steal from it at night.” So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, “How does the watchman do his job without instruction?” So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, “How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?” So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people, one to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, “How are these people going to get paid?” So they created two positions, a time keeper and a payroll officer, then hired two people.

Then Congress said, “Who will be accountable for all of these people?”

So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, an Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, “We have had this command in operation for one year, and we are $918,000 over budget. We must cut back.” So they laid off the night watchman.

NOW…slowly, let that sink in. Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY….. during the Carter Administration?

Anybody? Anything? No? Didn’t think so!

Bottom line: We’ve spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency…the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember!

Ready?? It was very simple . . . and, at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977 TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

    Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND, NOW, IT’S 2011 — 34 YEARS LATER — AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS “NECESSARY” DEPARTMENT EXCEEDS $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS OVER 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES, AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE! THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, “WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?”

A little over 34 years ago, 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Ah, yes — the good old Federal bureaucracy!!

If one goes through the same process with the U.S. Department of Education, one gets a similar return on investment of taxpayer dollars! NOTHING!!

    Stay tuned!!!

NOW, WE HAVE TURNED THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY OVER TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

      Good post.
A few months back Hatch made a negative remark about the TEA Party and we rang his Washington phone off the hook and let him know that RINO’s are no longer tolerated by the conservative voters. He now has taken a page out of the McCain playbook and is posing to win re election. He needs to go. He has been complicit in contributing to our current state of affairs.

I was in his constituency all my life until I just moved for school. It’s nice to see that his FINALLY taking a constitutional and bold stand on something. For the last couple terms he has been notorious for compromising and seeking out handshaking with progressives. Those who suspect his show is in light of his upcoming reelection are correct.

I don’t doubt the sincerity of his feelings on this particular issue, but the “outrage” and public display here are not at all a common trait for this soon-to-be ‘former’ senator. He needs to be replaced by fresh blood with an uncorrupted understanding of federalism

I would be happy with Orrin had he behaved this way the entire time he was in Washington. The truth is he was shocked into behaving this way when his buddy Bob Bennett was ousted in the primaries. If he continued this way I would vote for him again, but I just don‘t have th confidence that he wouldn’t revert back the RINO he has been in the past.

It isn’t just Obama care but a host of other behaviors and actions that leave no doubt that this man is THE LAST person on this earth that should have been elected to the presidency! Stop and think about it for a minute, this man was raised to despise this country. Stanley Ann Dunham made sure her boy was influenced by radicals of many stripes who all shared one thing in common, hatred for the United States. Look it up!

In an amazing act of national suicide, we put a friend to our enemies in charge. IN CHARGE! We will pay for this weapons grade screw up for decades IF we even survive as a nation! This man should be on trial and the thought of us accepting any thing he has hand in almost laughable.

I saw an interview with Bob Bennett recently. He still doesn’t get it. He thinks that there were two elections one that put him out of office, and a second that retained Washington, Nevada, and one or two other Senators; he seems truly to think that his actions had nothing to do with Utah’s getting rid of him. Orrin knows he is in trouble and will be the most conservative (speeches) Senator you will ever see; however, watch his votes!

I was recently diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer. That’s the bad news. The good news is that the survival rate of my condition is 99.3% in the USA. If I were to have the same situation in Canada, England or other countries with “Universal Health Coverage” ( similar to Obamacare) my survival rate would fall to 77.5%. I have done the homework and have a daughter who is an oncologist that is an associate professor at Wisconsin. Please contact your elected representatives and tell them to “DUMP” this law which was not written in a bipartisan manner , let alone the failure to show the debate on this legilation on CSPAN.

THE PRESIDENT’S PLAN TO SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY:

Our President has a courageous plan to save both Social Security and Medicare

The Social Security Trust Fund is almost bankrupt and the Medicare trust fund is bankrupt. The problem has been apparent for years but until now no one has advanced a plan to save these popular programs.

At last, our President has the courage to propose a solution! It is so simple that one wonders why no one thought of it before. The solution?

Enact a “Health Care Reform Bill” the severely rations health care to the elderly. This will save the Medicare Trust Fund and allow it to be used to reward the Presidents political cronies and provide health care for “deserving Illegal Aliens.”

Deprived of medical care, the lifespan of the elderly will be reduced, depleting the number of recipients of the Social Security Trust Fund, saving that popular program.

Both problems solved! Why did it take so long to find such a simple solution?

Of course, the Congress and the President are exempted from the solution so they can perpetuate the problem. http://commonsense21c.com/

I have mixed feelings about Sen. Hatch, he has been on the right side on many many issues and particularly done a great job defending conservative supreme court judges. Unfortunately with the way things get done in Washington with so many progressives in both parties Hatch has made some deals that were not always good for our country. He is one of the better Senators we have in Washington, but unfortunately that is not saying much and Utah can do better. Unless and until a better Senator is found Utah may have to keep Hatch because he is ten times better and more consistent than most in Washington. I disagree that Hatch is a RINO, the problem is he is a Republican first and a conservative second, we need someone who puts the country ahead of party every time and that is not Hatch.

Hatch is very much a Republican and a very good one and that is the problem, he is a party man first and a conservative second. We need more Senators who will stand on Constitutional and Conservative principles at all time and not compromise those in favor of the party politics. After the best of the new tea party Senators Hatch is one of the best of the old guard. The adult looses because the child doesn’t listen or even respect the adult. The child just continues to scream and make a huge scene while the adult looks pathetic and inept trying to reason with the child. How does that adult win? The adult wins by physically removing the child from the public audience (leaving the store and going straight to the car) then go home, SPANK the child and make it ABUNDANTLY clear that the child’s behavior is unacceptable! Only after the child has PROVEN they can be trusted to behave civilly in public are they allowed to go back to the store.

Right DUSTY. It is interesting that Hatch is able to parrot the views of real Conservatives when he thinks he needs to. This is why no one should listen to Rove, Gingrich or any of the others that have advised us to take the lesser of two evils. The lesser is actually worse: If a RINO is elected to defeat a liberal, like Rove and Gingrich wanted in Deleware, then the RINO gets preferred status in the next election and is unlikely to be opposed by a serious Conservative. This is how we have so many RINOs in office.
The dichotomy in Conservative politics is that any serious Conservative believes that the most productive place for intelligent people is in the private sector. Which means that anyone chosing to run for political office is either not really Conservative or has to figure out how to create a positive message out of seeking power to reduce that power.

We need leadership like never before and I am waiting for someone to really step forward and take Obama to the woodshed….Hatch along with everyone at this point has been a real disappointment. If he will step up and start admitting what a hypocrite, liar, and traitor Obama is….and how big a threat the Muslim Brotherhood really is to our country and start showing leadership I would be in his corner.

That said he is a big disappointment and that goes for all of them in Washington so far….It is high time they start really railing on Obama and calling for his impeachment so they are all guilty of not taking charge both the Republicans in the house and Senate.

He was in the position to help America for years and was part of the problem. I will work to have him play golf with Bennet! Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Dusty, I agree with you, well said. I would agree with others on here who mentioned Hatch is a party man I think they are spot on there. Our founding fathers considered that one of the biggest insults to be accused of putting party ahead of country. I have always liked Orin Hatch as opposed to most up in Washington but if we are going to make the changes needed to really take our country back and there are a lot of them to make, people like Hatch along with most all of the old establishment type, and all the Dems have to go.

We have been taking the high road. That’s why we got taken to the cleaners. I’m tired of being nice. I’m an old man, a veteran and a successful business man. I have worked my ass off all my life and I am damned tired of politicians scamming me. If you want to be nice, go join an monastery. Politics are a contact sport. If you can’t take it, get a robe.

Hatch, you are too late to try to pretend you are a conservative. We true conservatives remember your voting record and your deep desire to walk across the isle. It’s time for you to fade away.
