Dutch Artist to Create 9/11 Memorial Celebrating Taliban Fighters

On September 11, Wouter Mijland a Dutch artist living in Dresden, Germany, plans to create a monument — not for the innocent victims or heroes who perished on that fateful day — but for fallen Taliban fighters. According to an interview in a German-language blog, Mijland alleges his monument will look like a large jelly can with a heart in the middle.

According to Tundra Taboids, the artist wants to set up a two-meter high sculpture in secret yet counter to logic, do so in a public square. He is purportedly creating his monument to protest a new German war memorial to be erected in the same area — a memorial he claims is both “frightening and wrong.”

Mijland, who allegedly claims the Islamic threat “is a product of Western propaganda,” calls his monument a “cheap provocation.” He also said that “some people think differently about the 11 September 2001 and its consequences on the polarization and stigmatization of people of Muslim religion.”

      Historical record indicates there were two major theaters of action in WWII. To say the Russians “won” WWII is as gross a generalization as to naively utter the U.S. Civil War was fought to free the slaves. Such a statement may indicate bias… it sure as hell doesn’t indicate any serious consideration of the conflict from 1939 – 1945. The Russians had a damn fine tank… & fought a horrible war of attrition with Nazi Germany. But for the U.S. engaging Japan, Russia could’ve been squeezed like a grape. I refer you to the Russo-Japanese war; Japan was a power Russia had not the stomach for after its defeat earlier in the 20th Century. History can so interesting… and so easily ignored & revised. Go figure.
      Powers wax & wane and there is no squeaky clean govt., ideology or religion. You’re real keen on this “comeuppance” defense for Islam. Wow. So I take it your idea of sound diplomacy amounts to an eye for an eye. Why is it your sphere of reference with Islam begins only with the 20th Century? That seems a bit… selective.
      You’re defending humanity… by embracing an entity that has a LONG history of violence & opportunims even to date. Whatever. You’ve got an ideological axe to grind; you & the Islamists will both use each other. However, when they’re done w/you…

In Spain it was the Moorish Invasion that occupied for 800 years. Thousands of Christians were slaughtered by the Muslims…. as in, they started it. Hence the European response was the Crusade.
