The late afternoon lineup of MSNBC is losing one of its liberal voices. Dylan Ratigan has announced he is leaving network after three years.
“Think of it like ending a Broadway play,” Ratigan told the New York Times.
With Ratigan’s departure, ardent anti-conservative Martin Bashir will be moving from 3 pm ET to Ratigan’s spot of 4 pm ET. The changes will take effect June 25 with Ratigan’s last day being June 22.
According to Ratigan, he’s leaving to expand on the elements he has been preaching on his show, and includes plans to “meet with tons of people, learn from tons of people, and then figure out a way to take the narrative I’ve been talking about, and show the most effective ways to resolve it.”
He explained more in a blog post on the Huffington Post:
I left a 15 year career in financial journalism amid the crisis of 2008. I did this to join the traditional cable news ranks with a clear goal of revealing the ruthless truth about our biggest problems and telling the inspiring stories of those who are resolving them despite all odds.
After three years at MSNBC, two national roadshows and one book, (and a couple of rants) my objections to our current political process and our dominance-at-all-costs culture that gives us all less, while we pay more is well documented.
According to the Times, this has been months in the making:
Mr. Ratigan’s current contract expires this month. He was unusually highly paid by MSNBC daytime anchor standards — about $1 million a year, according to several staff members, who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the matter. Mr. Ratigan said there was no negotiation about a new contract because he told the company three months ago that he was planning to leave. He released his television agent in January, he added.
“Once you’ve said your piece, you can either keep saying it — and then it’s a job, good job, pays well, everybody knows your name, it’s great — or you can decide what you’re going to do about it,” Ratigan said. “And the answer is, I don’t know. But I do know, in order to figure it out, I have to dismount.”

No, think of it more like not being worthy of new contract negotiations for $1 Million a year, while Glenn Beck just got a new contract for $20 Million a year. WOW!!! Shows the message of conservatism is worthwhile and liberalism/socialism is a losing battle of wing nuts.

Posted on June 12, 2012 at 10:13amI am extremely concerned over the direction the Conservative Party is going. First, Paulbot Purists who are willing to go down with the ship to prove how devoted they are now people commenting on the Dylan Ratigan departure but NEVER have seen his show or know who he is? He’s the ONLY rational person on that network. Is practical about the Govt involvement in the banking collapse yet does not let the “Greedy Bastards” unscrupulous bankers ( name of his book) off the hook. Rails against Govt bureaucracy and overspending. Is on a soap box now stop about redundant Govt Programs and when it was announce 49.2% of all US households get a Govt check he was beyond incensed. At one time Glenn Beck was on CNN you know. He quit also to go on to more common grounds. Just because Ratigan is on MSNBC does not mean he too has a thrill running up his leg. Many Libs NEVER listen to Rush Limbaugh yet don’t like him. Now I see that sort of factless arrogance is also on the Conservative side.

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 7:50amRatigan was the only MSNBC host I ever repsected. He was a vocal critic of the recent “borrow and spend” financial policies of both parties. He believed that government spending was sucking the life out of the economy. Politically he was left of center, but his financial opinions were closer to Ron Paul and his specials on government waste were akin Senator Tom Colburn’s.
Whether I agreed or not he did his own research, reached his own conclusions and voiced his opinions based upon that.
But that makes him a poor fit now, as MSNBC goes into full propaganda mode for the election, And both parties probably knew it.
IMHO, if all MSNBC hosts were a little more like Ratigan they would be doing better in the polls.
I wish him well in the future and I hope he continues his drift towards individual liberty. I suspect that is likely when he leaves the echo chamber.

Posted on June 11, 2012 at 9:54amI also respected Dylan Ratigan. I watched many of his hard hitting reports and CEO interviews when he was on Bloomberg Business News before he went to MSNBC. I personally lost track of him because I NEVER watch anything on MSNBC (More S*** from Nothing But Communism). Personally, I don’t blame him for leaving. He was probably told that he WILL follow the Communist agenda of MSNBC or be TERMINATED. As a left leaning libertarian, this rubbed him wrong. I bet that MSNBC is glad to replace him with a more Communistically oriented talking head. He will be replaced by a radical left pinhead which fits MSNBC’s agenda to a tee.
I wish him the best in his new endeavors.

I just finished watching Dylan Ratigan explain his leaving on MSNBC. He was fired. His whole staff was fired too (about 5 or 6 people). No one had a clue this was happening and they all found out yesterday. None of them knows where they are going next including Dylan. This is what I think happened;
Dylan is a progressive but not the hard core Sociocommiearxist like the rest of MSNBC. He doesn’t do the “Lean Forward” commercials and probably refused to “get with the program” now that the elections are coming up. They probably told him to act more like Matthews, Maddow, Schultz and Sharpton and he refused. I heard it his voice; he was fired. Martin Bashir, a true Marxist, is replacing him and another Sociocommiearxist will replace Bashir.
